It was really bad down here: The wife and little girl going out to play in the garden Much nicer having a 'warm' party indoors.

That's why I posted it, Mike. An old geezer with a young wife and a young child. I put the bong away for a few seconds and that's what it's all for.... living. Being happy. Feck the world. Snow outside. Party inside!! How did an ugly fecker like me get a wife and kid like that? (I'm a good talker) ;D

So, there's hope for all of us You're a good bloke Ian, that's "why" you have such a special wife... the age has nothing to do with anything. Are those the famous braces you were on about? My jeans are falling off me, I could do with a pair of them... belt AND braces. I don't understand it.... I tighten my belt up but keep having to pull my jeans up when I'm out and about, what the hell is that all about? I hope I'm not getting to stage where I'll have to buy those HUGE underpants that old men seem to have to wear

I have white, red and black braces and some with musical notes on. Maybe I'll look the pants up!! Braces stop you crunching your gut up with a belt and you can wear really baggy trousers!! I even leave them open at home and they stay up beautifully!!!!!

My belt has had three extra holes punched in it beyond the regular smallest ones and it still can't keep my bloody trousers up sometimes! I try to eat nothing but junk and fill it out but my mother just gives me lentils and brown rice and I just stay thin as a stick (oh the woes of being young ). Perhaps braces are the way to go? -JoetheArachnid

I am not applying lubricant to my arse, my underpants are not smooooooth "silk" types.... I just cannot understand why my jeans want to fall down.... Maybe "nail gunning" them in place is the way to go..... don't get me started on button up flies... what has happened to jeans?

Here's one from 2010, the only proper snow we have ever had in the village. Then like below this morning, taken from half way between home and my sons school.

How convenient to have a bodega on the return trip from school... tapas are any good there? too much vino on an empty stomach isn't the best thing to do early in the morning.

Sorry Javier, I'm not your typical expat The Jarel Bodega, pictured, is very well known in Andalucia and is located in Competa. This is where the annual "Noche del Vino" is held, an extremely well attended festival and general piss-up. I have to admit I don't like their brand, expensive vinegar, maybe if had some chips.... The local one that is VERY good is Bodegas Bentomiz of Sayalonga. Not cheap but excellent wines. If you are ever in the area they do tours coupled to tasting and local grub. www.bodegasbentomiz.com/Say Chris from the Thai sent you and they'll tell you piss off, erm I mean give you a very hearty welcome. Failing that the vino del terreno will have you falling down pretty quick!

What's a bodega.... is that like a public toilet? Oh no, that would be a Bogeda What a strange looking place Chris.... I am only guessing here but that big barrel is full of wine, there is a pipe which travels down to the hut.... inside the hut there are a load of people getting pished on the wine? Pretty cool looking joint

Mike Have you lost weight again ? Regards Alex Well.... that chest infection in the winter was so bad that I didn't really eat much for a couple of months, I lost two stone.... I normally run @ 15 stones but am presently running @ 13 stone. It's not rocket science as to "why?".... I'm not eating as much as I used to. The cigarettes are a known appetite suppressant so, instead of having breakfast (for example) I just have a few cups of tea and a few fags. Funny thing is that when I was my so called "ideal" weight (ideal to these people who think thin people look "ill") my cholestoral was hitting the roof, blood pressure was up and I generally felt sluggish.... apparantly, I "looked" good though. I was in the Doctor's this morning getting blood tests and my blood pressure was 118 / 74.... erm, it's never been better! I won't say I feel "fit" but am a LOT fitter than most of my 50 year old "fat" counterparts who seem to get winded just getting out of bed in the morning It's the "look" that doesn't appear to go down well.... one friend said to me "If I didn't know you I would think you were on heroin".... another friend told me that I "look like a skeleton" and the latest (and most confidence boosting) remark came from a woman online who commented "First thought on seeing ur pic was not a good look!"..... Thing is, they are all overweight and expect everybody else to look the same as them... I, personally, think that overweight is not a "good" look but if they are happy waddling about like beached whales, sporting garish Bermuda shorts and blubber then that is up to them.... I have never once told them that they look like fat bastards and need to go on a diet, I accept them for who they are.... NOT what shape their body is in. Of course, it's only natural to look out for friends and I suppose they have good intentions trying to fatten me up but it's starting to piss me off a bit and having the reverse effect... the more they offer "ice cream" the more I resist. The reason I look like shite is because I'm drinking and smoking to excess, I don't need "fattening up".... I just have to moderate the smoking (I like it and have no intention of quitting) and totally STOP the alcohol intake (I don't like it and want to quit)..... when I can get up in the morning without a hangover the rest will fall into place. I've been up and down like a yo yo my entire life, either full throttle or in reverse (sometimes parked).... I wouldn't change a thing, the "ups" have far outweighed the seriously bad "downs".... the only sad thing is that people close to me have had to experience the downs and I do feel bad about that, I really do..... The "downs" are part of my make up, I dont want a pill to stabilise me because I know that an "up" will be better than any "even keel" type graph... it's hard to explain but the 5 or 6 days of sunshine per year make up for the 360 days of torment, anguish, longing, frustration..... seriously, One GOOD day far outweighs 100 shite days Not sure where I'm going with this, it's not a photography "relevant" type thing but, yes (to answer your question Alex) I have lost weight, I'm finding it VERY hard to bounce back (as I have always been able to do) and REALLY am experiencing the "your body is not a bouncy ball anymore" type thing. All self inflicted, no blame. All the best, "Pinkie" (I liked Pinkie, he was happy)

Hi Mike I guess that explains why you feel the need for braces. Perhaps what you really need, is to get a size smaller pair of jeans or pants ? If you feel more comfortable with your present weight, that's what matters. Kind Regards Alex

Hi Chong, please note that the snow pics posted on this thread were not taken in the month of June in the UK to the best of my knowledge. My personal opinion of climate change is that over the centuries world climate has had it's ups and downs, a bit like Mike's weight, and mine for that matter. No matter what one "boffin" tells us you can be sure another will contradict with his own take on the subject. A bit like our "audio boffins" here at the Grotto. Regards, Alan Here's a pic taken twenty mins ago of our garden taken through the window as it's still raining...................no snow.

Hi Alan Around 300 years ago there was a mini Ice Age. It was called the Maunder Minimum. It coincided with a period of very low sunspot activity. Presently the sunspot count is way down too, and expected to stay down for a while yet.Perhaps if there weren't any man made climate changes, we would be in an even colder cycle in the Northern Hemisphere and elsewhere ? NASA provides Sunspot Charts for those who are interested. Kind Regards Alex solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/predict.shtml

Hi Miguel, sorry I didn't respond sooner I've not looked at this thread since last posted on it. Our garden is mainly looked after by MGLW who calls all the shots in it. I get to cut the privet hedges more than 120 feet by six feet high and the higher conifer one at the bottom I hope to get a few more years of cutting in before calling on my boys. The garden this year is a little neglected as I've spent all my spare cash on Audio. I'll post a few pics of past years when it looked better. Although we have neighbours all around it is very private and a delight to be in when the rain stops. Regards, Alan

Well, enjoy the time you spend in the garden hopefully by carrying your portable audio to relax even more.
