As I like folk music very much when recorded and done properly from all over the world, I think I start a thread on this as Ian's thread is just on English Folk music which is not the right thread to be in when I write about international folk. Sorry Ian and is not abandoning you, btw.

The first I'm going to put here is someone that's coming to Singapore to dig gold from NZ that got my eye brows raised certainly. I just love the melody and is quite close to American folk style in a modernised way. Oh, just hear the recording, it's wonderfully live sounding and resonant with the actual thing and don't sound hifi at all if based on the samples. That's where my MF X-Can V2 is in now. It will be more hair raising in my speakerfi than headfi. Guaranteed! I'm going to look for her debut CD for sure. So join me if you are as stun as me over the samples. No guarantee no loudness war thought until I have the CD. But most unlikely to be the case as she's not on a mainstream label. Samples: Here is her debut CD to look out for: Sorry, no LP or hirez download yet as that will be more spectacular when done properly. Enjoy!

Oh, she's in person this TGIF 4th May 2011 Singapore concert! See what BBC World Service The Weekend Strand thought of her here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00m98jtSo I'm in line with British IMHOs. Yeah? Mike, are you seeing that as well? Nothing to do with Tiny Ruins, btw, but others.

The singing is very good and I love it very much although the recording sounded on the echo and hollow side. The "secret" can be a MP3.

Since this is also 2011 BBC World Service top 3 albums and it's obviously in Indian folk tradition, so I thought I will bring it here as well for a wider perspective of folk. It's on Deutsche Gramaphone (DG) and so recording should be top class and at least no Loudness War. Samples: Don't think it's entirely on Indian music but is actually a mix between Indian and Spanish Flamenco in some tracks. Here is her synopsis of her album with DG: I wouldn't say I like it melodically but it's something different to the folk table. Perhaps I will like it with more play time. Don't get me wrong. I don't own the CD or SACD yet if available. So just promoter me at this moment. Yeah, if you think you are seeing a double of somebody, yes, she's the half sister of Norah Jones.

While looking for further folk music to ebb my crave today, I came across this American site with some FREE American folk music that can be quite good to some. Most are RAW unadulterated music since they are Indie bands. Also, they are HIREZ recording at 44/24 if you find them. I can't say so for all as I only sample a few bands. As they are obviously minimalist recordings, they can be quite stunning in a hifi way. So enjoy if you like it! The site is here: www.myspace.com/birthquakerecordsI quite like the folk of Squinch Owl. Samples here:
