Probably my BEST iphone photo ever... I took it on an iphone 3G a few years ago. I was up near Tongue and couldn't get the phone out of my pocket fast enough when I saw the clouds! If you look at it full size you'll see Thor the thunder god and what could be perceived as a line of angels in the sky... these are the two that I took and they have never been edited or tampered with in any way:

So well photgraphed Mike - the Thor cloud is was well spotted. I love the way the light is reflected from the road in the foreground.
I just have upgraded my phone and at first sight the built-in camera looks half-decent... havent had a close look at the results yet but t'would be useful if it is a way to carry a useful point-and-shoot all the time.

If I had the time I would love to cloud watch, about 10 years ago (East Fife, Scotland) I was out with my dog and I couldn't believe my eyes.... there was a cloud formation which was almost identical to a map of the UK, absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! I didn't have a camera OR a "phone" on me so just watched it for a few minutes until it changed shape. The most stunning I have seen was on the Isle of Sky, it was almost pitch black with heavy cloud when, all of a sudden a good 8 or 9 holes opened up and it was just mind blowing with these beams of light coming out of total darkness... again, only lasted a minute or so. I feel very fortunate to have captured that one on my old iphone... there's just so much going on in it.... at first it looks like a dark, cloudy day but, the more you look into it, you see a whole life itself unfolding before your eyes in the sky and just like our own lives it is continualy changing.... nothing remains constant. The photo "itself" is a snapshot of a moment in time, a brief "idea".... the thing is, most of that day was bright sunshine, I had a mother of an argument with the Welsh girlfriend I was going out with at the time (she was up staying with me), She threw a cup of tea over me in a tearoom.... the hire car ended up with me hitch hiking home and "I" paid for the bastard hire car! Oh well, that one second of cloud made my day

Those are stunning pictures Mike. That's the joy of having phones with half decent cameras now, you never have that 'sh*t I wish I had my camera with me' moment anymore.

another relic resurrected: this is my dads first calculator, back from 70s. Cleaned it, changed the busted 9v battery connector, fitted new battery and thats it for now. All the keys work, some are a bit stiff and need some force to be persuaded to work, but other than that - it works. Through its life, somebody's haven't been too nice with it, as I can see some compass scratches on the keyboard. Here it is going through its red dot matrix "screen saver" mode. How effin cool is that? Compared to chinese calcs of nowadays trigo functions are a bit slow (takes about 1 sec to calculate tan), but - do I care? Am I in a "1 sec is too much" hurry? I'm gonna use it

I took a drive up to Tongue today (30 miles away) and took a few photos along the way... the weather was SHITE, overcast and raining but not cold. I just LOVE it up there, it's totally unspoilt, traditional and peaceful.... non of these "second home" types floating about (thank god!) A place where local people live and work (mostly on the land).... I have a real hatred for these bastards who buy homes and only use them for a week or two per year, totally destroys the culture when they invade en masse.... It brought a tear to my eye today, I hope these bastards never make it THIS far north and destroy the place like they have destroyed everywhere else, it would be such a shame. The farmers up here are REAL farmers, not the type who are selling their land off to property developers and floating about in ferrari cars.... wooly jumpers with holes in them, dungarees and a cap... I saw one today driving about in an old 1940's tractor.... hard working people, great sense of community, ZERO crime, leave your doors open all the time (even when you're out) type place... totally unspoilt! Fancy a MacDonalds burger? The nearest one is 200 miles away.... friggin "EASTER" today and not a tourist in sight, pure heaven! Anyhoo.... a few cloudy, dismal, wet pics I took: Click to view full size.

By the way.... the mountain in the background on some of the pics is Ben Loyal, she's 764 metres high (2506 feet) so just a corbett, not a Munro, still very majestic though.... I'd shit myself climbing up it! Either that or have to be air lifted off it with a connery! I went quite a way up Ben Nevis (Britain's tallest mountain) when I was in my 20's (the easy path) and felt ill (Vertigo)..... I'll remember that feeling forever I got to a certain point and, all of a sudden, thought I was going to fall off (even though I was on the easy path (the south side?).... I lay down, flat on the ground, and grabbed onto a small rock.... my mate thought I'd gone mad.... I had, essentially, FROZEN and was frightened to move incase I fell off! His solution was to ply me with alcohol (and it worked!).... I soon stood up (remember I was on a PATH and not a cliff face!) and managed to get back down with ease..... in fact, when I reached the bottom I wanted to go back up.... pissed as a newt, full of alcohol induced "here we go, here we go, here we go!" type bravado.... fortunately I was persuaded in to a pub These guys that climb mountains (proper climbing, not steep paths) must have balls of steel.... either that or they are INSANE or PISHED! (or all three) I'm frightened on a friggin' ladder... about 10 rungs up I start to shake.... funny though because I love roller coasters and the more death defying the better.... it just doesn't make sense why I am frightened of heights.... maybe the roller coaster being ATTACHED to rails has something to do with it? I would seriously go a mile high on a roller coaster and do it again and again and again but climb up a ladder or a hill or a MOUNTAIN? No f**kin' way! Glenshee was good, you had the "option" of walking up the mountain or taking the cable car.... cable car all the way for me! was quite funny, there were the serious "kitted up" types doing the walking and the flip flops and sandals types being transported to the top in a bubble with a seat attached to a cable.... total lunacy

The horse sheltering behind the hay was funny... at first I thought it was a plastic horse as it wasn't moving.... I watched it for 5 minutes and it didn't move an inch..... Yup, it was a plastic horse On the way back, 20 minutes later it was strutting about so, erm, NO, it wasn't plastic.... it was having a stand up sleep and sheltering from the rain behind the hay.... Stupid me was thinking they're planting plastic horses

Hi Mike, X2 with Alex.............we were up at Brough for a week May 2010 and loved it. Didn't know about the Grotto then or you might have had a visit. We stopped at Reay golf course, now that's almost at your front door. Had lunch at the Strathy Inn and went on down to Tongue. June sees my eldest son and his pals neighbouring with you at Fresgoe......trouting. Yep a great place to live, make the most of it Mike. Alan

That is not a Rover! This is a Rover … Hey Miguel, I learnt to drive in a Long Wheelbase Land Rover just like that one 40 years ago, double de-clutch and all that. You could turn the steering wheel about a quarter of a turn and nothing would happen, scary stuff but you soon got used to it.

Yesterday was day two of my new kitchen. The first picture was taken after all the base units were out. Just some Plumbing and electrical work to sort out, all going smoothly Picture two was taken by the paramedic I forgot about the wall units when I stood up quickly and banged my head on the corner of the unit. After getting up off the floor I put my hand on my head and felt blood, I looked up and blood was squirting through my fingers. I though shit this is serious maybe an artery, Jean said to me are you all right? No was the reply call 999 and get me an ambulance. By this time blood was everywhere. When the paramedic came in the house he said which way was the blood spurting, I showed him and he got ready to put a dressing on. When I took my hand away NOTHING The two paramedics had a good laugh with me and said they had seen worse shaving nicks. He said that I had done a really good job of applying direct pressure to the wound that it had stopped bleeding. I had to laugh - the paramedic insisted on taking a photo to show me. The third picture is all the paperwork the paramedics had to fill in - seriously it took them longer to fill in an A3 & A4 sized form than it did to sort me out. Great lads though.
