I must correct myself: I've read the whole review now and I really must say the the Raspberry Pi isn't suited for audio and/or multimedia projects at the moment. The Raspberry Pi really seems to be what it was originally intended for: A very small an cheap developement board for programming experiments. The current implementation is tricky and with a lot of limitations. Video hardware is proprietary with no open-source drivers available so far. Memory and performance limitations will make the Raspberry Pi frustrating for user that want it to use for more than experiments. The costs are also a point: If you count all parts you'll need, you'll end up in the region of an Atom or Zacate/Brazos motherboard, perhaps even more. You won't save much money, but you will get much less power and versatility. After reading the review in deep and adding up costs, I've came to the conclusion that the money is better spent on x86/AMD64 compatible hardware. I'll go for a NUC board as soon as they'll get available:

Christian I have read a review in the June issue of Silicon Chip magazine and would have to agree. Regards Alex

Any updates on the Raspberrypi's? PS3 just died , I can't watch streamed movies now so need a replacement . Was looking at the PI's and those Android tv box's like Gbox midnight's .

Leo, I'm using RPi and OpenELEC successfully. I don't know how it compares to the Xbox, but its cheap enough to give it a try.

Thanks Greg, was wondering if HD video was smooth with these things.

I was also lookign at using the Pi to run XBMC as an audio server and was a bit anoyed to see that the only audio outs are 3.5mm analogue and HDMI. For me this ment that it would not work.
Anyone with more brains than me looked into if it is possible to attach a HDMI decoder chip to get the audio output as digital? I understand that HDMI transmits in a format unreadable by anything else.
Just thinking!
Still getting one to play with though!
Andy
