So can say: 1) Panda (moded) (Mosfet) 2) AK-A (Transistor) 3) Sunrise (high voltage) (Tube/Mosfet) 4) OPA-88 (latest Sunrise) (Op Amp) 5) WAD (Tube) all pass OPTIMAL technically at Class A for LCD? Correct if inaccurate. PS: OPTIMAL here means loud enough (like in speaker listening) when wanted to and with much reserve for the dynamics roar without going into a whimp or clipping when called upon. Your list, in your (random ?) order: 1) Panda (no output resistors) (transistor with FET input) 2) AK-A (no output resistors) (all Transistor) 3) Horizon in Low output R setting (higher-voltage version of Sunrise) (Tube/Mosfet) 4) OPA-88 (not available yet and will be named different) (Tube/Op Amp) 5) WAD (Tube/transformer) Would add a lot of other amps as well as most dedicated headphone amps can drive a 50 Ohm headphone and have a low Ohmic output resistance. The O2 for instance if you want to keep it low budget ? All tube OTL are probably not very suited for this headphone.

Hi, I tried the LCD2 rev 2 a couple of weeks ago and loved them. I am just waiting to try a pair of LCD3s before making a decision, but they would have to be pretty good to beat the LCD2s. Ade I had a pr of the LCD2s at home for a couple of days a while back, loved them, placed an online order for a pr, emailed a couple of times after 6wks waiting (the implied waiting list time), never got one reply. Great sounding HP`s , totally useless customer support from my point of view, also i was informed that one of the drivers on the pr i listened to, expired after a couple more weeks of use. Mick.

The British retailer for these HP`s:-
Decent Audio Castlegate Mill Quayside rd Stockton on Tees TS18 1BZ, UK Phone: +44-1642267012 Email: info@decentaudio.co.uk
Very nice guy, who i spoke with today to express an interest and possible purchase, is willing to let me Audition both the LCD2`s AND 3`s at home simultaneously to evaluate their performance. Obviously the 3`s need to be a considerable step up in performance to "justify" the price tag.
LCD2`s shipped £825 LCD3`s shipped £1599.
This price compares well to the ship from the states price once you add the import tax(which you will NOT escape).
The LCD2`s have had a recent driver change, lots of the earlier models suffered the same driver problem as the first pr i auditioned.
Mick.

Mick,
I ordered my LCD2s from Simon - He was very helpful with the LCD2 / 3 audition too.
I look forward to your observations if you decide to audition them.
Ade

Sunrise about 0.3W (in 10 Ohm setting) high voltage version about 0.6W (in low Ohm setting) but is more meant for high Ohmic headphones. opamp output version around 2.5 to 3W (in 0 Ohm setting) = OPA-88 amp. WAD depends on configuration, should be able to give around 0.7W (in 50-125 Ohm setting) and perhaps slightly less is in 16-50 Ohm setting (an estimation) Wouldn't drive them with a C'moy when you want it to be dynamic/play above low listening levels. All my comments apply to the WAD in 16-50Ohm settings. I did experiment for a short while with 50-125Ohm setting but it sounded better in the lower Ohm setting.

That's a bummer. In my experience their actual support is top-notch when one gets through. They even replaced a faulty wooden box! But, their email response rate have been a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes one has to send that extra email. My impression is also that Alex and Sankar really do care about their customers and their product. To me, that counts higher than a missed email or two.

Your list, in your (random ?) order: Yup, random. Would add a lot of other amps as well as most dedicated headphone amps can drive a 50 Ohm headphone and have a low Ohmic output resistance. Oh, yes, forgotten the LCD is only 50 ohms and will be HA friendly. Also, from your description, resistance doesn't very with frequency very much which is always killer for any amp to face if it does. So LCD can be declared a very safe HP for all amps except OTL? All tube OTL are probably not very suited for this headphone. No way I'm going to use an OTL with these expensive HPs after seeing this type of amp destroyed my friend's expensive Jap fullrange driver Coral when it decided to throw it's tantrum. It will always be with output traffos unless someone had come out with a high reliability OTL. So far there is not many commercial offering with this design due to the OTL being known as a TERMINATOR. Oops, now you have make me remember to relive the TERMINATOR 3 Bluray. Arrgghhhh, I must write less on this forum.
