My second helicopter is an AH64 Gyro Apache that I got for a mere £17.99 shipped from Play.com
www.play.com/Gadgets/Gadgets/-/3448/2715/-/15957836/Remote-Control-Helicopter-Gyro-Apache/Product.html
It had over 50 reviews on play.com with the majority of people giving it 4 or 5 stars. So, £17.99 thought I. That's worth a punt!
Apart from a brief stint at £16.99 this has now gone up to £39.99 It's a good helicopter but there are probably better for £40. If the price drops again though, get one. It's great for under £20
I've only had it a few days but it's a cracking little helicopter. Built like a tank. I have really thrown this about and it's hit walls, radiators, ceilings, me, you name it and it's got hardly a mark on it. Just some minor scuffs on the blades. It comes with a spare set of blades and 2 tail rotors just in case you do manage to break it
It's quite slow but if you use it's momentum you can start to throw it around. Just expect lots of crashes and bounces until you get the hang of it.
The solid feel means you get a bit more daring with your flights but it bounces off everything so you just pick it up and have another go.
It's quite possible to do smooth take offs and landings. It also looks pretty realistic for a micro heli due to the stability and slow smooth flight characteristics.
I will most likely get another one so my Dad can have a go with a near indestructible heli I wouldn't let him near the Mini X... Well, he is 80 and his reactions aren't what they were
It's not as nimble as the Mini X but it's very stable. I took a video at work today in a spare office and it's uploading to youtube as I type. I was a bit more gentle than normal so don't expect spectacular crashes Besides, it was VERY draughty low in the room today so I had no choice. It played havoc with the Mini X but the AH64 was still fairly stable, although at one point when I was rotating the AH64 around it's axis I could hear the rotors rasping against the air currents. It's quite audible on the video.
I'll post a link to the vid when it's uploaded. Excuse the quality but my little Zi6 camera is really meant for outside and as it has no wide angle setting so the helicopter spends a good deal of time off camera
In conclusion this would make a great beginner's heli as it's slow, stable, built like a tank but most of all great fun. The fact it looks the mutts too is a bonus. Oh and there's a switch on the controller to turn on the front spotlight and tail navigation lights.
