The ebay "special offer" 9808 has arrived. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Helicopter-RC-3-Gyro-Alloy-Frame-/280757816743?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D3605539820648035028&clk_rvr_id=276609003937She cost £14.99 "shipped" and I have two words to say.... "HOLY crap!" This bird is built like a TANK! Almost everything (apart from canopy and blades) is aluminium... the skids are even aluminium! I have given her a test flight (video uploading now) and she not only "looks" like a helicopter, she sounds like one too! I have only flown the one time and the crash at the end was intentional... I whacked her up onto the ceiling to see how robust she was and, not even a scratch! It was a bit strange going straight from the E-Flite MCX to the 9808.... the 9808 is a lot more keen to "do it's own thing" and one seconds lack of concentration and she's off like a greyhound out of the traps! This bird can MOVE.... it's like a MiniX on rocket fuel! The LEDs are more like searchlights (not your usual novelty things)... they are extremely awesome looking when in flight. In the box you get the 9808, the transmitter, USB charging cable, a spare set of blades and the usual "screwdriver"... it is extremely well packaged and there are quality control stickers all over the place. £14.99 and most definitely the most robust helicopter I have... it is SO solid.. even the canopy is rock hard.... I'll have a few days flying it around and will report back but, £14.99? Erm.... (as these annoying people would say) "it's a no brainer"..... Pics and maiden flight vid to appear shortly.

Not as refined as the MCX in flight but good fun chucking this tank of a thing around My first ever flight.... if you listen closely you will hear it stutter a couple of times... hasn't done that since and I hope it was just the "newness" of it..... incredible machine for £14.99 shipped tho' !! This will give you an idea of how she sounds in flight:

By the way.... have since managed a "full length" flight and managed to get 9 minutes airtime which isn't at all bad. It's a bit like flying a bedford van around but absolutely no shame to it for £14.99... it's the most "real" looking helicopter I have when it's in the air... just something about it that says "look at me, I'm a real helicopter".....

They make nice little ornaments around the house, Mike. When someone comes, have one primed up ready to go and if they comment and start to go over to touch it, lift off and they get the shock of their lives!! A flying ornament.
You have quite a collection there.

You have quite a collection there. Ian The only one that I'm not too keen on at the moment is the Nine Eagles but that's more to do with "Buzz Flyer" than anything else. The canopy came back with a dent in it and the bloke e-mailed me back insinuating that I had damaged it with "heat"! "Mike We have sold thousands of those heli's and I have never seen a canopy in that state, it is clearly heat damage. It's not a problem like I said just put a note on your next order and we will throw one in. Regards, John" Smug bastard! "heat damage"? Oh yeh, I flew it into the oven..... I replied with a simple "there won't be a next order" A £4 canopy and this guy is claiming it suffered "heat damage".... erm, not even worth replying to him.

Mike, I'll send you my canopy. I don't really like the V2 if I'm honest.

I won't be flying the Nine Eagles indoors anyways, it's way too fast... I am waiting (still) for a wind free day and will give her the freedom she deserves... I like the V2 but not so much indoors.... indoors I want something quite sedate and don't want to be "badly" controlling something that resembles an out of control bluebottle... I think the V2 is more of a Californian type bird, likes being outdoors in warm sunshine.

That's an impressive little helicopter for £15
I was tempted but resisted the urge as I'd already ordered an Apache AH64. I'll post a thread about it soon. I have only flown it a few times so far.

I've paralleled two batteries and this thing has turned into a forward flying rocket... the extra weight in the nose has made reverse flight a thing of the past... if you whack her into reverse she will stop dead and hover. I'm not sure I like it as it is now extremely hard to control (due to the speed) and if you give it any forward stick it goes like a bat out of hell.
Here is a short video of it with ZERO forward stick... it is going forward all on its own... if I were to stick her she would be uncontrolable in my flying space (I haven't tried her outdoors yet but would imagine this would be the ultimate coaxial for outdoor flight simply because of the UBER fast forward speed and "weight" of the 'copter) I've ordered another 9808 as it is the best 3 channel I have yet come across (build quality, flight time and tweakability)... I'll probably keep this one modded for outdoor flight (FAST forward only!) and the stock one for indoor flight.
In the video I have done my best to show just how good these are but without a wide angle lens most of the action is off camera. I deliberately "floor her" and then demonstrate how you can flip the throttle and get her back up in the air again.... I show the control by taking her within an inch (or two!) of an exposed subwoofer cone and I demonstrate her ability to "floor dance".... this is some piece of kit for £15 !! (plus an extra £1.19 180mAh battery in parallel) Flight time is only increased to about 9 minutes but "speed" in forward flight has gone into turbo mode! I really must show the full forward stick speed of this outdoors, you won't believe it! As I say, in this vid there is ZERO forward stick used... when it hovers it is fully sticked into reverse.
A real workhorse of a thing and absolutely bullet proof when it comes to walls:

BTW... the music is "Autobahn" (originally by Kraftwerk) performed by Senor Coconut.... music is coming direct from the workshop "string and sellotape" system

I hope you'll appreciate just how skilled the "skid turn" right next to the woofer was (about 2 mins into the flight)..... I seem to be getting a natural feel for these things and can get them to do what I'm thinking.... bloody fantastic things! I wish we'd had these back in the 70's

They're great aren't they, Mike? I love 'em too. You're right, you start to get a feel for where it slips and slides to and so compensate very quickly.
I've been chucking an MCX2 around like a nutter tonight just for a bit of relaxation!!
That one could do with a bit of weight on the back if it's going forwards that fast with no help!! It a liability!!
Try putting a bit of forward on the MCX2, Mike and it also gets quite fast. I just move the weight on the tail boom and it's off!!

I'm going to mod the arse out of the MCX2 Ian... it is way too tame... the "stock" MCX makes it look tonka town slow... the "extreme" swashed MCX makes it a seem like something is wrong with it!! Just look at the speed of the spins on the "swashed" MCX.... the MCX2 just cannot compare! MCX is positively SMOKIN' (half way through vid)

I haven't had a whisky for a few months now but wonder just how my "flight" pattern may be altered if I downed a bottle? Could be a world first (helicopter breaks window, comes back through broken window, smashes owner in face, owner collapses, knocks his "new" false teeth down his throat and chokes on his own teeth).... yeh, that would be good viewing! Ian... why don't you fly up one weekend (in a real plane) I'll introduce you to Sam and we could have a threesome in the garage No, seriously.... it would be cool man, I have a few spare rooms here and you are welcome anytime..... it would be a memorable weekend for sure

I had one of these 9808's for my birthday, late last year. Lost of fun, and interesting what it teaches you. One example is if you try and land it of the pouffe (square material furniture thing, not Larry Grayson) you suddenly learn the effect that down-draft has on the helicopter when the surface under it changes height.
On the reliability front, I've had a couple of issues when the 'copter has been dropped, and the cog for the lower set of blades dis-engages from the main drive cog. Easily sorted without stripping it down, once you know what you are looking for.
Anyhow, my godson has taken a shine to my helicopter, but I'm unable to a 9808 from a UK seller. It'd make a good birthday present for him if someone can help me find a UK seller.
Any suggestions?
