Mike, the V2 is a problem indoors. The MSR isn't. I like that one so much, I have an MSR x on the way in December.
I don't get as much satisfaction from the v2 as I do the MSR.
The MSR is built better, flies better and is more controllable. The Sr 120 is more controllable and less wayward than the v2. IMO, the V2 gives an exaggerated taste of single blades and is much more erratic.
I noticed with Sam's video, it looked hard to hold and he was talking about trimming etc., but it's the heli, not him. It's probably popular because it's cheap - get a good 'un and it's fine but perhaps quality control isn't that good?
My first one was fine until the tail rotor packed in. the second one was nuts.
If that's your first taste of a single blade, I think you'd give up with it there unless you got a good one.
I agree the Eflites are good helis and they have progression built in for the learner. In the long run, they're cheaper because of less accidents. You also learn better flight habits imo than with these erratic helis.
If my 120 SR flew like that, I'd have someone's head off with the blades!!

The MCX arrived this afternoon.... I "bound" it to the E-Flite transmitter and it was like flying an old friend! Same smooth response as the MCX2 but FASTER!!!
I am already preferring this to the MCX2... I took a video of its maiden flight and it responded PERFECTLY, went exactly where I wanted it to go and did a perfect landing, first time!
If anything the MCX2 "sounds" cheaper.... the MCX2 appears to be better built (maybe better motors?) and sounds so smooth in flight... the only pretty "nasty" part seems to be the canopy, it is paper thin but, hey, as long as you don't crash it head on into a brick wall, who cares?
I will upload a few pics and the maiden flight vid later (as soon as it has uploaded).... absolutely love this one and it's the best, so far, for controlled / responsive indoor flying.
Sometimes a "MK2" version doesn't necessarily mean "better"... the MK2 could be more mass production / utilise cheaper parts.... I certainly (after my maiden flight) think this a better helicopter than the MCX2.... no swashplate adjustments availabe, just FAST straight out of the box.... the vid will show you what I mean!
The MCX is now my "reference point" coaxial..... MCX2 comes nowhere close when it comes to precision "one man in control" type flying.... I am SO in control of the MCX it's frightening... I will take a vid of some extreme MCX flying soon
Those paper canopies are great! I printed a few off on glossy photo paper and I also spray painted one with pink fluorescent paint (6 coats)... they look awesome and perform very well in flight, far better than the stock flimsy canopy.
Will upload a couple of vids of the "paper" canopies and will also publish some pics of the MCX paper canopies.
They need the window imo, Mike. The first one looks like a blind heli. You could have a special 'Little Pinkie' version!!
I've found some MSR paper designs that are glued at the bottom, so they're more enclosed than the MCX ones. I'm wondering about making those and working out where to put the mounting holes.
I quite like the shape of the MSR canopy and these ones are a little bit more pointy and look quite sleek.
It'll be printing onto plastic next, or spray painting!!

I haven't finished it yet Ian... I'll paint on a window (by hand) and maybe "Pinkie" signature on the sides... I will then coat with acrylic lacquer....
One GOOD point with these is you can learn to fly the helicopter with the paper canopies and when you are 100% sure you are never going to crash... on with the stock canopy.
The worst canopy I have come across (so far) is the MCX... if you smacked the nose into a wall it would crumple up, they really are flimsy with a capital "F". Fine if you don't intend head on impact but pretty shite if you do
The Nine Eagles Pro V2 is a pretty fragile canopy too.... I hit mine on the wall and I could "hear" it cracking
I think these companies consider the canopies as "consumables" which is pretty bad form (IMO).... the cheap MiniX and 9808 helicopters have BULLET PROOF canopies (you could whack them with a hammer) and there is no reason, at all, why the E-Flite helicopters can't come with these fitted.... it's all about extracting another fiver from your wallet and zilch to do with aerodynamics / weight.
The photo paper canopies are, essentially, free and also quite tough so who gives a crap what they "look" like... I'd rather bash one of those (and print a new one out) than send "Buzzflyer" a fiver every time I crash You'd be as well flushing a fiver down the toilet.
Learn to fly with photo paper and only fit the stock canopy when you're confident with your flying skills.
Actually, I really didn't like the Honey Bee canopy. The seam started splitting from the start so I taped it up on the inside. Not good for a canopy that has to be taken off all of the time to change the battery.
I don't take too many chances so my canopies are lasting touch wood!!
If you bash the 120 sr, it would break for sure. The weight would make it implode on itself. That's the beauty of the miniature ones I guess. The do actually take quite a lot of abuse and as long as you cut the throttle, generally, you're ok.
I have a red V2 canopy if you want it Mike. Had a spare sent with my heli. (but not a red tail) Just thought I'd crash it so had spares sent with it - like skids. (broke them) Still have a red canopy though.
Because I've flown little helis for a while, I've kind of got used to keeping bits for crashes, although I've also learned not to crash if possible as well!!

Bollocks! I was going to adjust the length of the rods and ended up snapping off part of the swashplate (ball joint) so have ordered a gold "fast response" replacement.... will report back on the effect this has to the MCX in flight, the write up looks good!

Maybe this will be the beginning of a whole new hobby....... "RC Helicopter modding" I must admit, this plastic shite on these 'copters is pretty naff, just look at it the wrong way and it snaps. £4.99 for a replacement plastic swashplate or £10.99 for an alu one.... I think it's worth the extra £6?
That is a pain, Mike. They are pretty weak. I used thin pliers behind the ball to take the pressure off when pushing the links on because of that problem.
Hopefully, the weight of the metal ones won't slow the take off too much. This mod has been done with msr's but there are reports that battery life went down.
The Walkera models look rather nice with those gold coloured swash plates and from what I've heard, they're supposed to be the gonads. Bit expensive though, but then again, maybe better built.
Look at it as a positive, Mike. Taking the blades and swashplate etc off will be a learning curve and maybe you will start to see how things can be improved as a result.
You'll need some clockmakers glasses so you can see. I have great problems seeing the tiny parts; especially as they're black and getting the tiny screws in can be a pain.
One thing I have never understood with Eflite is why they haven't offered different canopies. People would buy them galore just to have something different to look at. Say, a sky blue MCX2 and some nice custom ones. I'm sure there would be a market.
