So, um, you live where exactly? Country, town, house number? Do you keep a spare house key hidden anywhere? Any watchful neighbours? Seriously, that's some very nice kit you've got there. How do you find the HE-300 compared to its orthodynamic brothers? I was planning on buying an HE-4 at one point, but managed to hear one and wasn't best impressed by it (or the HE-6 for that matter ) -JoetheArachnid

I was planning on buying an HE-4 at one point, but managed to hear one and wasn't best impressed by it (or the HE-6 for that matter ) -JoetheArachnid hehe.. My old address was in Belfast mate but escaped to the Philippines a few years back - actually had to sell everything before moving so this is collection no2 The ortho HE's need a good amp and a tube or tube hybrid one at that. The 4/5-LE/6 sound thin and under powered unless you have 2.5w plus going through those left and rights. Hence that is why I got the EF5 also when I bought my HE6 which powers it really well. The Bada Ph32 tube power amp with speaker terminations is quite tasty also. If you were put off by the treble in the HE6/4 which some can then by all means get the HE300 - easy to drive, like a more articulate Senn HD650 but maybe not quite as bassy. It is also a lot lighter. It can't match the HE6 in terms of depth of presentation but its a rockier more musical can and very enjoyable. Got it on my head right now

Had the HE6 and it is a top tier can but it does need a good amp, I was using the speaker taps out of a Red Wine Audio Signature 30.2 Amp. I currently have an HE500 wich sells for about 25% less and it is easier to drive and thus more useful. The HE300 is on its way should get it by Friday unless custom has an "issue".

Of course I will Paddy. I will be comparing them with the HE500 but just as important with an HD580 which to me are the same as the HD600. Actually I much prefer the HD600 to the HD650, I found the bass on the HD650 to be too emphasized. Cheers.

Poor guy is no longer allowed on headfi lol but he doesn't seem to mind. I really want to get the HE500 but unless something happens in the lottery soon I think I am going to have to just hope someday I get a demo. Yup I am marcusd from headfonics For the HE300 i think they rock (technical term). They are very musical for the price, much warmer and more aggressive - pitch them in against the HD600 and I think they would compete very well indeed. It is also a bit of a looker.

Cool. I know Dale via the other side given there is this DT48-thread. That dude just lurrrvvveees his DT48; I believe he is fast on his way to being a global expert of sorts. His observations on the DT48 have on occasion almost lead me to pull the trigger and get one myself!

The Red Wine Audio Signature 30.2 Amp sounds like one serious piece of kit - interested to hear your thoughts on it.

The 30.2 is an amazing amp but the price is as you know a bit high. As an option you may also wish to investigate the Virtue amps which I have listened to and are quite good/excellent. IMO the biggest bang for the buck are the vintage receivers by Marantz/Pioneer/Technics/etc. from the 1970's.

I have started to see a few guys on other forums start seriously investing money into vintage receivers. In the right hands and in good condition they look really amazing also. One of the nice things about being an aspiring audiophile is seeing the value in the things people see no value in at all My temptation right now for a new amp is the Bada Ph12

It's only one review, I just happened to come across it a few days ago and had a quick read.

It's only one review, I just happened to come across it a few days ago and had a quick read. Only problem is I happen to agree with Mike Ting (headfonia) on quite a few things. He is my geo-neighbor in Indonesia and a heck of a great photographer. Still thanks for the heads-up, will review more widely on this one to see if there is any prevailing opinion.
