Does anyone have one?
I'm trying to find out for sure whether this will take a 32Gig card and whether it will record the radio?
Got one coming and wondering whether the + will accept bigger cards.
While I'm at it .... is it slow to read cards?
Also ... presumably, no line out?

I have one. 32 Gigabyte, I don't know.
Slow to read cards? Can also depend on the card itself.
Headphone out is line out.

I Have a Fuze which is the same except the fuze has bigger and better display, better interface and higher battery capacity. sound quality is exactly the same though.
You will have to use the HP out as line out and so you can also adjust the volume with the player. Output voltage is very low...
The output stage itself, however, is GREAT and will leave nothing to be desired SQ wise.
The fuze will take it's time reading the card once things are added or removed or when the uSD has been removed and reinserted. In the Fuze an 8GB card takes a few minutes to be read. After that it starts up pretty fast. Don't know how it reacts with 32GB nor if it can handle it and also I have no idea if the clip+ is faster than fuze. Might be as the interface and search options are less elaborate.
32GB SDHC is the maximum this format can handle (and the clip+/fuze as well). Also (with Fuze in any case) you will need to have 'clean' ID3 tags as it uses those for navigation. Fortunately I have all my music tagged properly.
The 'library' is limited to 6000 or 8000 songs so if you have more songs on the card, the library can't see those, and thus you cannot select/play them.
might be fixed in newer firmware... don't know I only have 4GB player and 8GB card
8000 songs is about 8 days worth continuously (24hr) playing a new song.

Thanks Frans.
I have an 8 Gig Sansa on the way with 32 Gig card to take with me rather than an Ipod which is highly nickable.
The Sansas are so cheap and don't look so flashy, so there's less chance of nickage!!
I'll be putting wavs onto the card and perhaps, record the radio if possible.
Since they seem to have good sound quality, it'll be useful for those dodgy times when you have 'nickers' around!! I think it's just 15 hours on battery but I'll have a plug in usb charger with me.
They look quite quaint and slightly old fashioned but I just want a decent sound.
Been reading that 'blog' guy today. He is certainly full of himself and loves 0 ohm output headphone amps but he really reckons the Sansa so I thought it may be useful.
Thanks Frans.

Well, it's arrived.
First impression is - it's tiny! Dead easy to use.
The sound is good and not at all toppy. Quite rounded, but there isn't a great deal of volume to be had from them. Going from the headphone out to an amp makes it obvious that the output is a bit low - I need to really whack the volume up for my normal headphones.
This is more definitely 'mobile' in nature with 16 ohm buds probably the best option because of the volume. Even on buds, it's not that loud.
I wish everyone would stop trying tpo protect our hearing.

Try it with some Jays V-Jays, these are really easy to drive and sound great straight from my MP3 player. My favourite portable 'phones.

I used it with the ie8 and Klipsch X10. Even they're not really that loud.
The sound of the player is good - it's quite mellow - I would have liked a bit more in reserve though.

I've found the fix!!! In case you have a Sansa - this is crucial ......... Go into settings. Reset to factory settings - and DO NOT set it for Europe. Set it for the Rest of the World. Bloody hell, it's loud!!! Over half volume on ear buds is too loud. Now, I have amazing sound and lots of it. Made me feel a lot happier with the player. In fact - this is a bargain. Ian

Ah yes, my Sony player had a similar thing for protecting European ears.

Hi Ian,
Yes, my Fuze is in 'rest of the world' setting. In 'Europe' settings it is VERY soft indeed, way too soft even with the most effiecient headphones. Bloody European rules.... Didn't know the clip+ had the same 'problem' I thought only the Fuze had this 'nag'.
The sound quality is extremely good, best I heard from this cheap players.

Well Frans, The sound of this is amazing for such a cheap player! I had real doubts when I heard the 'European cap' but now it's giving more power out, it's amazing. Is there anyone who actually likes this European claptrap? The Sansa seems set even lower than the cap to me!! It's so soft that it can barely drive iem's if you do as you're supposed to do with the settings. Thank goodness they left a cop out on it. The s/n is better too. Not that good with the cap on because it remains constant at all volumes. The noise doesn't rise with the volume. (Bit like class A ;D) Now it's louder than the Ipods and also slightly warmer sounding. Nice rounded treble without sizzle. Good imaging too would you believe? Drag and drop is so much simpler than having to use Itunes and you can organise the lot in folders with no problems. I've totally filled 8 Gigs so now I'm waiting for the 32 Gig chip to arrive. I LOVE it straight into the Portapro. 8 gigs with expandability for this price is pretty amazing. Makes me feel such a mug getting into the Ipod route. These things are better imo. (at least soundwise) The main advantage of an Ipod is the ease of subscribing to podcasts which I use quite a lot (and video podcasts) but I do like the sound of this. Although it's like a little plastic matchbox, the controls feel good quality. The radio is a bit deaf. I live in the country and it struggles with signals. Funny thing is that the volume seems to fluctuate with the strength of the signal like an am signal does. It flips into mono I think so that may account for volume differences but if you try to record the radio with a weak signal, you get a load of clicks all over the place. It picks itself up and so is unusable in weak areas. The sound of mp3's seems very 'clean', although it's warm. However, I don't like cold, steely treble at all. To me, it's often the result of companies trying to make you think their stuff is 'hi fi'. Stick a load of treble into the mix and everyone thinks it's revealing which is pure row locks. What is surprising is just how revealing this player is on wavs and is currently available in 8 gig at £35. That is a bargain. Put it into a Neco and you have one helluva setup, capable of driving serious cans really nicely. Why didn't I do this in the first place? Ian

I've had mine for about two years now. When I bought mine it didn't have the expandability of your new one Ian. Best I could get then was 8Gb on board and able to expand to 24Gb with a 16Gb SD card. Reason I bought it was that I had heard numerous reports of its SQ being better than most I-pods and I didn't want to go down the i-Tunes route. I use it with (and often without) a Banzai C-moy and a pair of Audio-Chi's. I have been very pleased with its SQ, usability, interface and ruggedness. Admittedly I have bought a little silicon sleeve to protect it (which i would recommend), but it has been on two holidays, work and back most days, and up and down numerous hills and mountains. The integral clip is so useful - why don't more/all manufacturers do this? The radio does let it down a little. Although mine picks up plenty of stations it is very 'directional' and if I turn a corner the reception strength and quality changes. Like most of its ilk, it uses the headphone cable as an aerial. Doesn't really bother me cause I bought it for listening to files not the radio. There's such a thing as "Slot-Radio" available, though i'm not sure how it works. It even does voice recording which I have used to record a meeting at work and which was excellent - records in wav only for some reason. The user defined EQ settings are useful when used with different sets of cans and I also love the 'Spectrum Analyser' display - just wish there was some way to make it stay on permanently though - it looks really cool. As you say for the price, capacity, size, toughness, nice simple interface and above all SQ, you can't really beat it.

The slot radio function is a bit strange. I can't really see it catching on tbh.
It looks like a collection of random tunes is pre-installed onto a card in some format other than mp3 (?) and you can only play through them in the order they're on there. You can't go back and replay stuff, although I think it'll start again when you get to the end!!
I can't really see the point when you could so easily do this on your own.
I've been listening most of the day now, and the sound quality is absolutely superb. Wavs are brilliant but mp3's also work really well and I can't hear tell tale 'Chirping' so there's a nice encoder working in there.
It sounds remarkably 'full' and looking at it, you'd think it was a toy.
This is one of the best sounding MP3 players I've heard - but someone is bound to pop up now with the Zune!!
Remember - £35 for 8 gig and a radio. Brilliant.
One other observation - the 'Updater' that you can download from the Sansa site doesn't like my computer. With it installed, my computer does a 'huff' when I attach the Clip. (error sound) Take the software off and the Sansa is fine, so it's something to do with the 'Updater' software.
The funny thing is that the Updater works so I'm not sure what this actually is.
It's no problem - I've taken it off!!

Thanks Jeff, It's always nice to see what other people think when you have one in front of you. I saw one guy having issues with a 32 gig card but it was something to do with 'mode' of transfer. (MTP or MSC) I'll see when I get the card. Quite amazing that this tiny thing can have 40 gigs on it. I was surprised how many mp3's I got on it today. It's physical size makes you think it can't do much!! The display is great. Very basic but very easy to see in daylight. I went out in the sun today and could see it easily so it's actually easier to see than an Ipod. The quality of its sound just smacks you in the face though. I'm so used to Apple stuff and this thing is so Musical sounding in comparison. The Ipods are a little 'thinner' sounding. They don't sound at all bad, but this thing is tiny and yet, sounds powerful. The EU cap is a joke and shouldn't be there!! They don't warn you of this and I must admit, when I first tried it, I thought everyone must be listening at 'pony' volume levels or I've finally gone deaf. It really is daft and imo over the top as well. I could listen comfortably to the ie8 at full volume. That's plain daft!! That alone would have made me give up on it if I hadn't found a fix. Once you have the 'World' setting done, you have two options on the volume menu and you can actually set it back to the EU volume by selecting 'Normal' instead of the 'World' setting of 'High'. If you do that, the Normal setting leaves the volume at full because it's just not loud enough for most headphones. Really silly. Well, I'm convinced now that it's a bargain. Musical, easy to use, straight drag and drop files, (crappy) radio, tiny, loud. In fact, I'm going to wear it on my wrist. Ian

Funny this should come up now. I've been looking around for something for Mrs cj and her wot is nearly 18.
So if a Clip+ at £35 a hit, what amp at less than but next best to a Neco? One will be used with Porta Pros and the other with Senny in ears (forget model but approx £30 5 years ago).
Cheers,
Chris

Today, I've been using the Banzai Morph into the Portapros, Chris. Beautiful.
A cheaper amp - Pocket amp 2 perhaps would be nice. Or even the lovely little Fiio e11. That's a real cheap one that sounds good. Charges via USB.
Or don't get an amp at all. The Sansa is loud and doesn't seem to sound too stressed at loud volume. (unlike the IPods)
The Sansa has come as quite a pleasant surprise because I really didn't expect much for £35. I also felt that people sing it's praises because of the price - to me, it's a superb, miniature mp3 player. Plus that expandability via the card slot.

Ian, Thanks for that, I was hoping you might mention the E11 with the Sansa. Have you given that combo a whirl? Now that the female teenage thing of the house has had her iPod nicked it's my chance to delete iTunes I certainly won't be getting her a replacement iPod Chris

Oh, she's lost the IPod?
Well, that's the very reason I got the Sansa. I'll be stuck with a load of Nickers next week so I thought I'd take something less attractive and cheap.
It hasn't"t got the same flashy bits as an IPod, but the sound is way up there.
I use my Touch like I am now, typing back to you on the Internet. I also use Bluetooth headphones sometimes, at home so I'm free to wander about the house.
No games on Sansa or apps. So the IPod (or the Touch) does a lot more things.
However, the Sansa has a sound that is equal or even better than an IPod. It gives a lovely warmth and power to the sound.
I like the e11. High and low power with switchable bass boost. Quite powerful too. It adds a slight hiss with bass boost on into iem's but I generally don't use an amp with them in any case. It's just not as silent as the Neco but then, it's not the same price either.
The Morph is good with the Sansa. It adds slightly to the weight but it's really pleasant. I quite like that particular combo.
Actually, the Morph into Senn hd25 is extremely good.
Your daughter may not like the 'look' of the Sansa. The Clip doesn't have the street cred of an IPod. (Lucy thought I'd bought a toy) then she laughed, until they heard it!!

If you want a Sansa to play (crappy res ?) video too, have more battery life and a bit bigger in size a Fuze will give you the same sound quality but add some features (easier searching the playlist/artists, covers displayed, different interface). If you only want to use it for audio and don't mind charging it more often the clip+ is the best choice.
Price of the Fuze is (considerably) higher though.
The radio is equally average/crappy, but enough to follow the local news IMO or if you are bored listening to the huge amounts of music on it.

I like the look of the Fuze as well now I've heard the Sansa sound.
Mike sent me a strap for the Nano ages ago that works just as well with the Clip+ so that you can strap it to your wrist. I use that strap a lot actually. I'd never seen them before he'd sent one to me but it's REALLY convenient with these little DAPs. No worries about dropping out of your pocket or getting nicked.
I put the headphone lead down my sleeve and when I'm not listening, I leave them connected and the speakers either dangle from my neck or I put them in an inside pocket of a jacket.
Just makes it even more convenient to use and less nickable!!

I have the 'old' Fuze (the one with the scroll wheel) The Fuze+ seems to have less pleasant UI, SQ is the same. Fuze+ is also bigger yet again. anythingbutipod.com/2011/05/sandisk-sansa-fuze-review-2/ is not very positive about the Fuze+ but rather recommends the clip+ over the newer Fuze+ My (older) Fuze is in a silicone sleeve which I can highly recommend for the Fuze. Too big to wear on the wrist..
