I have resently learned about a company called Spiralear who makes custom inears in silikone, instead of the hard acrylics.. So I have been writing a bit with them and are almost ready to bite the bullet, but being a cheapskate I would like to get a discount, so I have asked if there was a possibility to get a disvount if we were 5-10 people wanting a pair and that was an option, I have not gotten any firm offer yet, so I have no idea what kind of discount we could get.. If anyone should be interested, seriously, please let me know, I am doing this on my own site too, but to get more people I have decided to do it here also.. www.spiralear.com/en/

i think both ety and futursonics offer soft silicone custom jobs now. this may be the way all makers are going.
yeah, you may want to try the ety's first. i can get a new pair with custom tips for $280. you could do it for $400.

I can assure you that ETYs are not to my liking, I have custom tips for my q-JAYS, which also fits with ETYs and I hated them.. Also I am not after customtips I want full customs..

There's also Sure who do custom in ears.
/edit: According to their website, they seem to be very serious about sound quality. Which type where you aiming for?

Spiralear is in Europe no tax no customs, which is very important to me.. I am gunning for the reference 5, might as well go for the gold, maybe the reference 3 if I want to go a cheaper route..

My only worry with silicone customs is that they's pick up a lot of dust in general use. I got a new iPod Classic silicone jacket just yesterday, and it's already accummulated an irremovable layer of the stuff. It looks like a pretty good price as customs go, and since it's soft it should be more comfortable and possibly isolate better than solid customs.

Not like the casings for Ipods and wii remotes, it is a different kind of silicone, so that won't be a problem..

actually, i've been noticing bass out of my ety er6i lately. i've always thought they were defective. maybe the filters just clogged up an it makes them sound better.

The filters should be replaced on a regular basis depending on how much wax you generate. The foam tips when compressed and then expanded in the ear canal improve the bass response significantly over the tri-flange and the silicone tips.

'White America' has a strongly ramped up bass M. It's really heavily compressed and the bass levels start to verge on the madness level, so I'm not surprised you noticed bass on an iem. However, a more balance recording would sound thin by comparison. Ian

And what has these universalIEM, capable of getting siliconesleeves, in common with Spiralears products ?? ETYs has no bass period, you would know that if you tried other IEMs..

i have tried others. and these silicone sleeves are custom fit at a lower price than the spiral ears. of course they are cheaper, Spiralears are handmade and are full custom.. This thread is an attemt to get some who are interested in full customs from Spiralear, not about etys and sleeves for other phones, please stop writing off topic.. I am trying to get a discount from Spiralear and could not care less about sleeves for other phones..

I'm tempted, but hell they're expensive. How easy do these fit? I don't mean how good they fit, but how easy it is to place/remove them. Generally, in ears are a pain when using the foam or silicone type seal and they tend to come loose from the driver. Then i'm stuck with a piece of foam in my ear channel. No chance removing this without a pincet

Generally, in ears are a pain when using the foam or silicone type seal and they tend to come loose from the driver. Then i'm stuck with a piece of foam in my ear channel. No chance removing this without a pincet I have found it easier to insert and remove than foamies, they wont get loose as the drivers are inside the silicone and can not be removed at all.. It takes a little time to learn how to insert remove them, but once you get the method in place it is very easy.. The silicone are also fleksible so you can get a grip on them at the top of the phones, when you insert them just pretend it is a corkscrew.. I can only speak of how my sleeves for q-JAYS work, but I thing it will be very much the same.. the ref 3 is about the same price as a Shure e530 which are universal, so expensive is a matter of your point of view.. The big guy ref 5 is about the same price as a pair of HD800 and are probably on the same level in SQ.. The downside is that if you do not like them you are stuck with them.. At Hoved-fi.dk we are two at the moment..

It might be worth trying the general fit ref-3's
About the price: I have some Shure E3's and thought they were good untill i got my K701's. Since then, the E3's sound dull and uninvolving to me. The AKG's sound perfect for my ears and they are only €250. Trouble is, i'm on the lookout for some new isolating cans
Cheers, Marc

They are possibly laced with xylene, asbestos and other "irritants".... I would tend to stick with a "kosher" pair that are "Made" in the western world...... Hold on, no such thing as "Made in western world" these days..... oh, OK then, may as well buy the Chinese things as they are all that are available (says a lot about the lazy Western bastards.... if it were left to them then NOTHING would be available....) Colt... If you want to go truly "homegrown" you will have to quickly learn how to shape rubber / silicone.... if you can't be "assed" then you will have to resort to fitting toxic, cheap, Chinese pieces of rubber into your ears...... Personally, I am an old school "British Rubber" type of guy.... (Gas masks and whips) and think you are a bit "demanding" with your in ear requirements.... I will get back to you on this.... just off to serve a wench on the rubber plant (it is "Friday" night after all)...... Have fun
