Like I said, I haven't worked with Cue files. If I have to put them in the same file folder as the music, then they're not all that useful to me, as I was looking for some way to create playlists across a whole hard disk of tunes.

In my experience, if I change the line in the CUE file that looks like this: FILE "David Murray - Special Quartet.wav" WAVE to this: FILE "David Murray - Special Quartet.flac" WAVE the Mini APE plays from the CUE file (this would be for a single file, if there are multiple track FLACs, each of the ".wav" endings needs to be changed to ".flac"). If you ask Candy for the latest update, you'l get rid of the annoying double-click between tracks. The latest update is a big improvement. Thanks John for the useful info - I didn't knew this. Will ask Candy for the latest firmware..

Mick. Hi Mick Been away, hence the delay in replying to your post. The software update I've been using for a few weeks now eliminated the irritating click/double-click between tracks and reduced the problem of short tracks shutting off prematurely... (To help you with update checking and identification: the largest file and most recent file [called 'mini3'] in my downloaded RAR package is dated 12/04/2011.)

Hi John,
My update just says mini-english, when you switch on your mini, can scroll down to settings-------About:-
Do you read:-..... J2MINI 1.1B..................11.....1, i presume this to be the firmware edition, you only get about a second to read it, so just keep pushing the ok button.
Thanks.
Mick.

Hi John, Well logic would suggest that you have a later firmware update than me, mine being a B and yours a C, how that can be i am not sure, as i only received mine last week, seems like Candy has sent me the older version, never mind no worries as it still sounds great, in fact EXACTLY like before, so i have not gained any benefit from my download at all. Thanks John. Mick.

Where do we send the email to request an update? I can't find the DIY Audio bit where Candy was Moderating!! Ian Hi Ian, Best way is to get in touch with Candy.... I had the file but appear to have deleted it (I am always deleting stuff) so the best bet is to get Candy to send it to you.... maybe she could "park" it online somewhere and make it available for download, that would be a lot better than e-mailing it. I removed the HifiDIYnet forum as there didn't seem to be a lot going on in it... mostly just the discussion about the Mini APE.... nothing has been "removed", all posts are still active, I just moved them all back into the general forum. I'm really looking forward to having some time to listen to music.... I've had the builders in for the past couple of weeks and have been running about after them making tea etc. The older section of the house is like a friggin' bomb site at the moment but it's all starting to take shape.... It started out as a new "kitchen" but has now developed into 6 rooms being revamped all at once I got a job lot of that "karndean" flooring but the flooring guy said it would take him over a week to lay so wouldn't really be cost effective.... he recommended "lino" in the kitchen as he could fit it in 3 hours and it wouldn't require the existing tiles to be dressed with 6mm plywood. Sooooo..... I have a "pallate" of these bloody floor tiles sitting out in the workshop.... (£1200 worth that I got for £80 ) so am going to lay the bastards in the bathroom myself. I got the joiner to dress the floor with 6mm "ply" and am just awaiting the "screed", feature strips and acrylic adhesive to arrive and I will get cracking on laying the floor (slow but sure)... the floor geezer said he would get me started with four or five tiles and I just copy him in a "monkey sees / monkey does" fashion.... seems quite easy in theory and I have PLENTY of spare tiles to practice on! Been here for 5 years without so much as a lick of paint and, as usual, am going into this in a "from the sublime to the ridiculous" style It has got me tenting to sport a "tool belt".... I'm going about with new sayings like "what's the open time of that adhesive?".... "how long will that take to go off?"..... "what's the porosity of that wall.... I reckon it could do with being sized".... "a bit of two by two should do there"..... Me and the "blokes" were singing and a dancing to a cornucopia of stuff during the day... plenty of "sex" talk, references to penis length (and girth) etc. etc...... we even got down to some indepth topics such as "muff diving" and "rimming" and I managed to sell one of them a headphone amp so a lot of "male bonding" going down here at the moment Must admit it's mostly me "driving" the vulgarity.... one of the blokes was telling me he used to be a diver in the North sea.... I told him I knew a bit about diving.... Muff diving All good shit but when you have an addictive personality like I do the LAST thing you want is a house full of men with "tools"..... I am already questioning my 12V cordless drills and convincing myself I need to go down the "18V" route..... I need to upgrade my stash of "silicone" sealant to "trade" strength and i have to invest in a nail gun.... not any old nail gun either, it has to be a "pro" nail gun. I have to find a supplier that is "better than trade price" (I think they must employ a thief to go round building sites and nick all the gear)..... one guy says "I get my drill bits for £8 each"... the next guy says "you were done, I get mine for £4 each".... the next guy says "daylight robbery, they pay me to take them off their hands".... Yup.... it's all about understanding the "trade" and "trade prices".... "I paid £400 for that door" "£400? You were arse fekked, I could have got you that for £6.99 fitted trade" A bunch of bullcrap merchants and funny how each of them has ordered 10 x GU10 LED lights from me (MY source) and the main contractor has asked me if I can repair a couple of his tool transformers (10amp thermal press to reset fuses snapped off in both of them)..... the young guy "lobster Scott" (called lobster because he is shy and turns into a lobster colour if you tell him he has a nice tight looking arse ) asked me if I could look at his CD player (a POS "Sony" thing) cause it won't read the TOC..... knackered laser, £8.99 to replace etc. Ah yes, time for me to talk "trade" so looks like this will turn out to be a bit of a barter job.... "you fix my CD player and I'll lay some 6mm "ply" in your bathroom"..... all good shit Anyways.... I'm starting to extrapolate / Go off topic / go into "trade" territory here.... I will desist from "thread crapping" and go to ebay in search of some "better than trade" deals so I can BOAST about how cool I am getting "lower than trade" prices when they all come back on Monday (sporting their 18 volt tools)..... I may even parallel a couple of batteries and come out sporting a 36V BEAST of a drill Sorry for derailing the Ape Christ..... I could do with a shave

;D ;D ;D I can imagine!!! I nearly wet myself this morning when I read your newscast. ;D Talk about going nutty. First a big Spring clean and now house gutting. I was playing last night and got back really late and woke up this morning with a thumping head ache. (Like I'd had ten pints or something) and then I read this!!! My wife came up and said, 'I thought you were feeling bad?' Then I showed her your post and we both sat here laughing our trots off!! Then the inevitable comment - about time you did something around here!!! I said yeah ..... I'l move the Mini Ape under my V8 and then start to 'test' it to make sure the sound was OK. (Well, she doesn't know .... ) Boys and their toys eh? Good for you Mike. Some decent company and plenty of wtb talk. (willies, tits and bums) You'll be getting all those builders to buy hi fi next and appreciate the finer nuances of The Who. I was looking at your photos the other night. From that hairy little skinny guy to that Adam Ant lookalike with round specs on. Hey, they suit you Mike!! When you posted them last year, I thought..... they look dodgy....... change of life ........ scooter next ....... image problems ....... shite!!! Seeing them on you, they actually look great. You cool bar stuard, you. Glad to see you're getting stuck in to something you enjoy!! Ask them if they have a femail friend who's into hi fi for you to share a socket or two with. ;D ;D Ian

Where do we send the email to request an update? I can't find the DIY Audio bit where Candy was Moderating!! Ian It should be in your inbox now Thanks Claus, I also got an email from Chris!! Of course - I'd completely forgotten the address for Candy. I think my memory is crashing. I've contacted Candy - I'm very curious about losing that click, although I don't understand how an update will cure a physical click!! However Claus, you've made me stop and think. One update removes clicks, but the newest one puts the clicks back? Does anyone know what the updates actually address? What surprised me was Mick's reply when he said that he still had the clicks but it seems that there are two updates and they're doing different things. Ian

If I have to put them in the same file folder as the music, then they're not all that useful to me, as I was looking for some way to create playlists across a whole hard disk of tunes. --Buckapound Pretty much interested to do this way, I dont know how to do this though Use EAC (Which is excellent) to rip an img which is an image of the CD as a wav. It will produce a massive wav file. Before doing the rip, use the database to label all of the tracks. The programme will automatically make a 'cue' file which is in the same directory and you copy both onto your disc. The mini ape will automatically latch onto the cue file to enable the selection of tracks from the massive wav file or if you play from the first listed cue, the whole lot plays just like a cd. Basically, it's a list of all the tracks and whereabouts in the wav file they start so access to individual tracks is far easier. Mick, if you're reading, Claus sent me an update and the clicks have gone. Apparently the new update brings the clicks back!! So if you still have a 'click' problem I can send you this version which is totally silent. The instructions are a little difficult to understand and I wasn't sure that the update had installed to be honest but it was obvious on playback because of the lack of clicks. However, it still won't play small files!! I guess the next update puts the click back but plays small files? Ian

Ball 300) and then laying the Karndean vinyl tiles... have got a nice 10 litre tub of Karndean acrylic adhesive and the "open time" is about 20 minutes so I'll do them bit by bit.... I may even go over the ply with a belt sander tomorrow just to ensure it's as flat as a pancake.... as with anything the "prep" work is the most important if you want a good finish... no tiles will look good if they are fitted on an uneven surface.... Not sure whether to fill the expansion joints with a flexible filler or if the screed will be enough.... will do a bit more research on "screed / skim coating" tonight

Blimey Mike, you're really getting stuck in. How about an extension now? Have you tried bartering with the workmen? Give them an amp for a job and a repair for 'make-good'. 'I was working as a builder near a Scottish farm,' .......... 'Work people, work work people' .......... I tried that. I said I'd perform for some workmen once and was told to feck off!! Oh well, at least I tried. Bloody plebs. Ian

Yeh..... 18 volt people too! I had a shot of one of their 18V drills last night and they are a fair bit torqier than my 12 volt variants....
'18V people, 6 volts more than me people'
'Muff diving people, muff muff people'

Does anyone know the effects of the updates?
The one that I installed from Claus has taken the clicks away but it still doesn't play small files all the way through.
Does the next one put the click back, but plays short files?
I have the recent update from Candy, but I'm loathe to install it because the clicks have gone!!

The C update, which I sent to Claus and he sent to you, is the one which does away with the clicks and, in my experience, ALMOST (but not quite) removes the premature termination of short tracks problem. (With the previous update, short tracks would stop many seconds before the end; now they stop a fraction of a second before the end, so that, for example, the last sustained note on a piano ends a bit abruptly.)

Who remembers the old days of leaving 4 second gaps between tracks on cassette recordings so that the Music Search System would work?
In the absence of the Apes firmware being able to fix what you describe, is there a programme that can take a bunch of existing tracks (ie selected by user) and give them an extra second or two of blank running time to fool the Ape?
