After confronting another problem with the Mini Ape not being recognised by the New Device Wizard, I have modified the reboot instructions again.
"2a" is the extra step that may come in handy.
1. Press and hold the right button of the machine , until the the screen goes blank blank but is still lit. 2. Connect the USB B port at the back of the machine to a USB A on your computer, wait for the new device wizard to find the new usb device. If no device is found try another usb port.
2a. If no port can trigger the new device wizard, go maunual!= Control panel/ Printers and other Hardware/ Add Hardware/ Next/ Check "Yes, I have already connected the hardware" = Next/ Select "Add a new hardware device" = Next/ Check "Install the hardware I select from a list" = Next/ Select "Ingenic USB boot class" = Next/ Next/ Next/ continue to step 3.
3. When the wizard asks for the driver/software, type in the path that leads to the main folder you created.(e.g. C:\Desktop\MiniApeUpdate) 4. After the wizard has said your device is ready, Double-click the "Ë¢»ú MS-DOS batch File" from within the folder, a DOS window will appear showing the progress of the update. 5. Shut off the power after the DOS window shows complete. 6. Press hold the middle button of the top row, turn on the switch of the power supply , the screen will not light up , after 4-5 seconds , the screen will light up, at this time you can release , the machine will upgrade and Restart by itself . Then the Upgrade finished .

Let me inform you about my situation and see if anyone can help (Candyhifidiy maybe it’s you who can help?): February 29th: I ordered ( Hlly audio) and paid 250 euros with PayPal for an Aune mini APE reader. My order went to the“processing” state. March 7th: my order still under process. I sent an email to Hlly audio asking for news. This was what I had got from them on March 10th: “Dear sir, the Aune mini player is not stable, we recommend the NEW Player, the link is : www.hllyhifi.com/dac/aune-dac/aune-s1-mini-ape-digital-audio-player-support-24b-192k.htmlif you feel ok, you can pay for the difference and we can send you the new version player! regards” March 11th: I replied as follow 1) the new S1 mini APE is not comparable to the one I paid for, as it costs twice as much; 2) the price is over my budget; 3) if the Aune mini player is not stable, why are you still selling it? 4) how do you think to proceed? No reply from Hlly audio. March 15th: I sent them another email to ask for the immediate delivery of the Mini APE reader, even if unstable. On March 21th I have not get any reply from Hlly audio yet and my paid order is still under process. What should I do? Any suggestions?

Posting here is a start. You could insist on a full refund and then buy one through eBay. I assume you have read this thread so you know what you're letting yourself in for: even though mine is not 100% reliable (it needs a computer running a 32-bit OS to unlock it every so often) I'm still very pleased with it.

I would say you are being treated VERY badly indeed. The same people are showing stock at their ebay store, there is absolutely no excuse and smells of dirty tactics up-selling The Mini Ape you have ordered does need to be reset on occasion, as discussed in this thread. It is an annoying trait but the unit still remains good on flexibility, convenience and sound quality. I DO like mine, so much that I have two! If Hlly were truly concerned about their "instability" they would either pull the product completely or sell remaining stocks off cheap as prototypes/beta testers/whatever. Rather than offering you a costly (certainly by percentage) upgrade, on a unit that is not 100% by their own admittance, they should either volunteer a refund or a substantial discount.

Email Candy - sales@hifidiy.net
They are the manufactuers and she's always replys promptly to me.
Having said this I don't think the 2 companies (Hlly Audio and hifidiy)are the same.
The lawyer in me suggests requesting your money back ASAP and looking elsewhere.
Whilst I had problems with the miniape (and it went back because I could not get it to reboot) even with the minor issues it had, it reflected reasonable value. The S1 however, now for sale at Item Audio (http://www.itemaudio.com/index.php/digital-audio-sources/aune-s1) is a different beast and whilst quite impressive (see my comments on teh other thread) it is not cheap by any means, and as I have been unable to get the network facility working, for me, the jury is still out.

Thank you all for your suggestions. On Saturday March 24th I opened a dispute against paypal and Hlly Audio gave me back the 250 euros with apologies for the inconvenience. Now I just have to look for a new reader ....

Would anyone be so kind and email me the newest mini ape player firmware? I asked for it a few days ago using the form available at aune website (I believe this gets the maila to sales@hifidiy.net) but have not had any reply so far. Then I found this gret discussion board, registered and sent a PM to candyhifydiy a couple of days ago but again, no reply. I've been generally quite happy with my player and its sound quality, the only problem being sometimes it hungs up and requires a cold reset. Thanks in advance, Bart

Thank you JohnnyBlue for your prompt reply and the update files. I've gone through the whole upgrade process, no problem with installing the usb drivers (both my computers are 32-bit systems, Win XP and Win 7). However, after the command window closed and I switched the player off, then holding the top middle button switched it on, waited for the display to come on as it did after a few seconds, the player just showed the copyright screen, then the hifidiy.net logo, did not restart and just showed the "Machine ID is" and a bunch of digits on the screen. I tried the whole upgrade procedure a couple more times but the end result is the same - the player now just powers on to show the copyright screen, followed by the hifidiy.net logo screen and the mentioned "Machine ID is" screen. If I press any button at that time, the screen shows "Input KEY:" at which moment I can actually input e.g. digits from the remote. I'm a bit stuck at this... Any ideas anyone?

Not come across the "Machine ID is" screen before. I either get the Mini APE locked up on the copyright screen (which means it's time for the firmware update) or it starts and works normally (after a time, while it reads all the sticks and cards).
One thing comes to mind: you are using the USB Type B input on the back, not the Mini-B?
EDIT: I've also found that sometimes I can get the Min APE to reset by just holding down the middle button when turning on (i.e., not using the update program). Also (in frustration sometimes!) I've managed to rekindle it with random button pressing.

Sure, I used the correct USB cable and socket on the back (not the mini-type one). It seems that I need to wait for candy's help :-) I played with it some more and the Machine ID number that is on the screen looks like a part of computer code - it's four groups of eight hex symbols (0-9 digits and A-F letters). Pressing any button results in "Input KEY:" on screen and using remote I can input all hex symbols (the row of keys just above digits on the remote input C-D etc.) that turn automatically into 4 groups of 8 symbols seperated by dashes. Naturally, I tried the obvious and entered the same code as the Machine ID but no dice :-( Don't know why but the player seems locked, like a computer software that needs an activation key. Hope Candy will come with some advice what to do next.

Don't hold your breath.
I think they've given up supporting the Aune Mini APE (notwithstanding a comment somewhere here on RG, that support for it would continue, following the introduction of the new Aune system).

Did anyone succeed in getting the coaxial input to work and then output via the analogue RCAs like is claimed?
This is my first time attempt.
I've tried with and without other media loaded, neither way is there any on screen recognition of the digital input and certainly no sound.
Have I missed a trick? Yes I did Using my best Chinese I managed to navigate the menu and find the digi input select!

Mine always resets itself if I try to select the SPDIF input, so I've never got very far with trying the digital input/analogue output!

Hi John,
Is that before you have a signal coming in or even the the s/pdif turned on?
For me;
s/pdif supply on, switch on m-ape, at first Chinese menu select second option, a single line then appears, "OK" that and I hear a click
= good to go.
I'm having other problems but am not sure where the problem is in the chain yet.

I think I've tried connecting the SPDIF in before selecting it in Option 2 Select Input (mine's in English, by the way, don't know why you're stumbling away with Chinese, unless, of course, you're fluent in Mandarin!).
I'll check it tomorrow, maybe there needs to be a signal actually coming through for the Mini-APE not to reset itself: I've got 3 or 4 different DACs and they all need a signal to be actually coming in before the 'locked' light turns on or off, depending on the design.

I think the newest reboot file only had Chinese for the main menu.
If you try again with an active s/pdif signal I reckon you'll be OK.
PS could you email me the older ingrish spekin file.
Cheers

Don't hold your breath. I think they've given up supporting the Aune Mini APE (notwithstanding a comment somewhere here on RG, that support for it would continue, following the introduction of the new Aune system). update: Perhaps I should stop wasting money, time and energy. I found a winxp system finally and got the system flashed . After few weeks again I had to. And another two weeks once more.. and then again.. I would never invest myself in to something like this again. Worth paying 10times over for quality and support. End of the story My APE will go for recycle as e.waste sometime soon. No more flashing.
