The K701's pick out every nuance from that album and you can so easily hear the layers with it.
For me, my favourite combo.

Exactly! Not just the recording quality though, Yello are one of my favourite bands of all time, I'd put them well up there with the likes of Floyd, Santana, Mike Oldfield etc. For what they do, nobody comes anywhere close IMO... where most of the electro bands are "thump thump boing boing thump thump boing boing" Yello make each album a musical journey with plenty of twists and turns.
I remember, back in the early 80's, a friend telling me that Yello was "shit" and that I must listen to "Sven Vath".... I did and was TOTALLY underwhelmed... repetitive patterns going nowhere fast. It seems most electro music went the same way.... boom boom boom, tsk tsk tsk (insert lyric here) boom boom boom, tsk tsk tsk (repeat same lyric here).... repeat over and over until it gets boring....
With Yello you have always got a musical tapestry, constantly twisting and turning and NEVER boring.... their work is timeless too, the sign of real quality.

Never heard of this duo before i joined this Forum Mike, now with the help of Ian and his excellent reviews i really cant get enough of them, they are quiet extraordinary. Mick.

As I've had one of those "best laid plans" days starting with the car, erm, not starting and the day continuing in the same vein. I decided to hide in my corner (distinct lack of customers today too) and have a Yello fest. Firstly I must say a HUGE thank you to Ian for his write ups, the preconceptions I had built from them were damn accurate. So I'll just jot what I thought of the albums, IMHO. Solid Pleasure; to me mostly inaccessable, I just couldn't tune in with the exception of Blue Green and Eternal Legs. I would not buy this album but would have just those two tracks. Claro Que Si; Basically a more accessable version of SP, quite enjoyable and consistent. You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess; Oh yes, it's all coming together here. I really enjoyed the whole thing. Stella; Although the album seems more dynamic with grander scale(recording quality?) the music seems to go off track a bit. I would only cherry pick Blue Nabou, Sometimes and Oh Yeah. One Second; This is brilliant, I love the selection of vocalists and there are 3 stand out tracks for me, La Habanera, Si Senor The Hairy Grill and Hawaiian Chance. Flag; This was the only one I knew from when it was the newest release. Pure brilliance. Baby; A very mixed bag, On The Run is great, a few other fun tracks and a few that didn't appeal. Zebra; Coming to this late I would call it almost mainstream electronica, not in a bad way, this is very enjoyable and drives along nicely and hangs together very well as a whole. This is also the first one that wifey liked Pocket Universe; I think it was other-Ian that mentioned his love of Jean Michel Jarre when approaching Yello. I also like JMJ and think if you do too and are new to Yello this is the friendliest entry point, leading you from familiar ground to Yello pastures. Motion Picture; I think this is their best titled album. I found myself conjuring up movie scenes in my head to match the music! Again a stand track Liquid Lies, plus this one also earns wifey approval. Touch; On now and lovin' it....Oh, and a return of other vocals Once again, thankyou Ian.

Know this is an old thread, but still good..
The last couple of days I finally did listen to some yello, borrowed 9 albums at the library and it sounds a bit strange, but in a good way..
Right now it is "claro que si" and it is a fun listen, with so much going on that it is hard to keep up and get it all into the head..
Oh and the deleting of CDs on top of each was a joke, but stacked and thrown around CDs will get damaged.. More profound in DVDs but CDs are also vulnerable

It's really worth detailed listening Claus. What's also very clever about their work is the attention to minute detail while at the same time, giving the impression that it's all so effortless. It also needs more than one listen and then you start to recognise their traits and in some cases, small references to past stuff and their really artful way of using samples/recordings seamlessly in their music.

An interview with Boris last year..... fascinating....... I don't need German to English translation because I KNOW that Boris is the Godfather of electro, I've been saying it for years!

The author of this is a f**kin' IDIOT! thevinylfactory.com/vinyl-factory-news/yello-new-album-toy/"swiss jokers"? Swiss pioneers and pure class too..... not your "DJ" poachers who have no creative talent, Yello have always been ahead of the game and are true pioneers in the electro / techno genre..... Jokers? far from it!

Edgar Froese was the guy who planted the seed..... some may say that Bach did...... but, to my ears, Yello took the genre to new dimensions (and continue to do so) it's a real shame they have never gone "live" before now and I would KILL to see them live in Berlin. I've seen Kraftwerk three times over the years and it's like watching / listening to paint dry...... almost as boring as listening to a Mercedes engine idle and then rev up...... some people really rate Kraftwerk, I (personally) think their output is sterile, clinical and shite. I'd love to be there when Deiter and Boris perform "The Race" live..... even better when they perform "Bostich" live....... Jesus Nigel, I was in denial and TOTALLY blanking this one out but you came in to remind me..... you bastard! 1984: Touch Yello 2009:
