Well call us slow but we caught AVATAR, I must say I'm impressed with the movie, not because of the story (not bad,... but) but because of the CGI the 3D scenery and animation is simply awesome. If you haven't seen it do your selves a favour,... ;D

I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD & Blu Ray. I'm not a fan of cinemas, the sound is usually too loud and not big on quality.

You got a 3d setup toad? It really is worth it. It's not overused, and where it is, it does work

I've not got a 3D setup yet but I have resisted the urge to get an LCD TV as the new 3D ready TVs are hitting the shelves for very little extra cash right now and the feature will soon become the norm. I do have some 3D shutter glasses for my PC though. I've had them for years. One of the most awesome things I've done with them is to play World Of Warcraft in 3D. Looking around in 3D while flying is amazing. I actually got a real sense of vertigo. The only trouble is the games icons look kind of stuck on the screen and reduce the effect. That why the flying sequences are best you can turn off the HUD and just enjoy the view Viewing stereo stills through the shutter glasses is awesome too. Close ups look almost real. This guys portraits are amazing www.starosta.com/3dshowcase/iface.html

Looking around in 3D while flying is amazing. I briefly played with some glasses a long while back, with FreeSpace. Good times Fair enough on holding off on the lcd till 3d ones are readily available.

Actually I thought that about the local cinema, but they have obviously upgraded both the projectors and sound system since my last visit (about time seriously! any decent HT system was better albeit not bigger) I'd like to compare between iMax and the local but I hear conflicting reports, seems the technology is the same. Not sure, I'll wait for 3D, ATM I'll stick with my LCD display by time the tubes ware out LED (displays) and LCOS (projectors) should be prime technologies

Storyline: 6.5/10 Acting: 7/10 (especially the call to fight against the human invasion to the "holytree" area) Effects: 9/10 (awesome) However, a statement or two about 3D. Do go to the 3D movies a few times before plunging for a 3D LCD setup at home. There are reports of giddiness and eye strain after the show for Avator and this could affect you as well since we need to wear a 3D spec.

I've seen this flic twice. First with shutter glasses, and it caused 3D-sickness. The fans did tell me afterwards the shutter technology is inferior and prone to causing headaches and giddiness. The second try was in a cinema that utilizes the polarization technology.Unfortunately it did cause nausea as well. Not as severe as the shutter glasses, but still ....... Not exactly what I'd call an enjoyable evening.I guess part of the problem is that I'm not always focusing at the same point as the director /camera man. I might get used to it and adapt to the new technlogy but so far it's not for me.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned.I'm still a stereo man as well and I do have no desire to put 5, 7 or 10 loudspeakers and a few subwoofers into my living room.

Made an effort to go to the cinema to watch this film in 3D, havn`t been to see a film on the big screen in years, and i must say i found it totally awe inspiring.
Not so much a film to watch, more of a totally mind blowing experience, and certainly needs to be seen on the big screen, to get the full benefit of what this film has to offer. Thoroughly recommended.

I've only seen this on a dodgy download, so the all the picture impact was lost. The story sure don't hold up on its own I'll wait for the rental DVD.

Personally, i think the magic of this film would be totally lost on DVD, IMHO the only way to see this film is 3D big screen, and this is coming from a guy that usually only watches films on DVD.

You know what? It was reported in my local papers that the new Avatar Bluray wouldn't play in a lot of Bluray players, unless firmware updated, except Sony. Whew, mine is a Sony .................. Some thinkers over it here.

Chong What is the available audio resolution from BR discs such as Avatar, and what are the output limitations from the Sony player's SPDIF, in comparison with the resolution available via HDMI ? Avatar is now available on BluRay, but the 3D version is some time off.

i got the blue ray at wallmart for the super price of 18.99 why is that super you ask? cause it also has the dvd version with it as well. thoughts on the movie. story is good story, who has not dreamed of living in another being/animals body? I know I have. good story, shallow character development cept for the main character. now the reason i liked this movie on blu ray is it is draw droppingly gorgeous in every way, great cgi, great camera angles both real and cgi. I will watch it at least a few more times as it really is something special for your eyes and mind. imo of course. it had nice flow and developed my "connection" to the characters , I found myself saying , take that mother funker lol , several times. Even if you don't listen to the dialogue its worth it just for how great it is shot and its overall look and feel. maybe its just me, I am nuts you know lol, but I would LOVE to see a place so awe inspiring. ok, there you go . two thumbs up.

bjoern, not seen that, very interesting , well all I can say to that is I liked Pocahontas as well. just makes you wonder how short we humans are gettting on original , fresh, not be rehashed and copied in every manner, ideas. sad really. and music, my word talk about doing the same thing slightly different... wow. ok , I'm done, end this rant now lol , whats that you say? oh, you welcome and you have been spared ;D had to use that its so funny, if thats not a "buddy, I've had it up to my feckn eyeballs with your shit !" ... well that I've not seen one lol actually that set, whatever the smile set is called, is a favorite of mine, MANY very good and quite funny ones. I used to use an app called GetSmile, it was pretty cool, drag and drop smiles into whatever you type online or email and such. anyway, an entertaining experience all the same. I say get you a good 'buzz' on before or during watching this movie smile Nazi on patrol mofo

I watched this last night.
Some really corny lines amongst the script that made me wince a bit.
It was interesting. The blue characters are so Mohican-like but the idea of being in tune with nature and actually connecting with creatures for help was a nice touch.
It's amazing how you accept these blue people in spite of them not being real. When you see them up against a human, they are quite awesome - they must be ten feet tall.
I found the 'Americanisms' a little annoying. Corny script in places and the caricature characters. The leader of the army was such a caricature and the manic ending was a little 'Cruella de Vil and pantomime like.
It screams out for a large sceen and the sections that are at a great height from the ground are absolutely stunning in 3D. I can undserstand people getting sickness watching it. I was on the verge of vertigo.
My wife was coming out in a sweat when they were right up high with that massive drop to the ground. The flying scenes are also brilliant.
I enjoyed it and the wife wants to see it again.

I enjoyed it too, didn't think I would but I did.... I liked the mid section of the film where he was being "trained" the best.... nice bird, I think I would have swapped sides too if I could get into her knickers It's all new to me this "DVD" culture, only a year ago all I watched was BBC1 / BBC2 / ITV and channel 4 (that's all I could get off my roof mounted aerial) and the quality was shite. I now have a modest setup in my bedroom (the only time I ever watch TV is in bed) comprising SKY HD box / NAD T585 DVD / Samsung series 7 LED TV (UE46B7020WW) / NAD C326BEE amp / Tannoy Eyris 1 and Acoustic Energy Aegis sub.... Suits me down to the ground for watching films / concerts.... nice TV, good sound from the speakers and a nice rumble from the Sub.... you couldn't ask for more laying in bed..... it's relatively unobtrusive too (specially with the lights out) and can pack quite a punch if need be The sub is a bit of a string and sellotape build (their idea of "bracing) is a few flimsy V blocks of MDF glued to the internal sides of the enclosure.... I will be stripping it down and reinforcing it with some proper bracing.... the cabinet "as is" is way too active.... it needs taming with some good bracing and then a good few coats of bitumen (body schutz car underseal is ideal)..... the woofer is not too bad but has a foam roll surround which I hate ( they are better than rubber "acoustically" but perish a LOT faster.... I'd rather rubber).... it also has a metal basket (which I hate too) these things "ring" like fck' so I will also be coating them heavily with the body schutz..... Should result in a less resonant cabinet though not as good as a properly braced / cast chassis driver effort...... only cost me £150 though so well worth taking the time to tame it.... it would cost more than that to build an active woofer from scratch. The Tannoy Eyris 1 are SUPERBLY built, as solid as a rock.... tiny little cabinets yet fully braced with bass / mid driver coupled to the bracing via lossy gunk.... crossovers are P2P wired with plenty of well squirted hot glue to keep microphonics low..... the cabinets are possibly the most "dead" I have ever come across from a commercial pair..... if you are looking for a small / bookshelf speaker I can assure you that the Eyris is one professionaly built (made in Scotland) little pair of speakers..... Hyper-Fi are still doing them for £349 www.hyperfi.co.uk/tannoy-eyris-bookshelf-speakers-american-walnut-p-563.html you just can't go wrong at that price..... equally suited to Classical or full frontal Rock..... I've read a couple of reviews that don't rate them as "Rock" speakers....... WRONG! These babies can take a kicking! Anyways, yeh, Avatar is one nice "experience"..... definitely worth the entrance fee..... Off to watch "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" now.... that should get the "woofer" rattling

Now there is a great movie. Involving story line, good, interesting, developed characters and NOT totally predictable.
I've have now seen Avatar properly (2D). There is no denying the effects are stunning and you are drawn in, but it is in no way in the same league as OFOTCN. That is a movie you will always remember, Avatar will be forgotton when the next great special effects extravaganza hits the screens.
