I think i will solve the DAC the easiest way ... get the Asus Xonar Essence ST soundcard... will use the amp on this, and will use the V2 if it sounds nice. It is a little bit less cable clutter than the Pico $300 USB only dac. Though the Pico is a nice build. With som RCA couplers you might be able to attach it directly to the back of the x-can.. that would be sexy hehe

Pink.... is the V1 less edgy (i presume so) and harsh and bright than the V2? Kris.... I STILL don't find the V2 "bright" (never have done) and am CONVINCED it's something in your chain of components that's causing this.... either that or I am as deaf as a post!!

Its the source thats problem... yes... but I will stick to that V2 is brighter than my analog out by a far way - without the mod.
Have you guys seen the new techtubes ? lets hope they make a 6922 edition some day. They get good reviews, extremlt transparant , smooth, .... though some comment that this new type of tube dont have the magic of the nos tubes. I don't know, but you should check it out.

K Krisno If you are referring to the tubes made at the old Mullard site at Blackburn in the U.K. , they went bust months ago. SandyK

hehe... are you insaine my friend. I dont need more tubes. The AKG K 701s are the problem. No matter what you do, it reveals any flaw, they are not really magical. But we will see.

Mike .... do you have those nice metal knobs for the x-can v2? I really think it looks way better than that plastic....

Metal knobs can induce noise while touching it. Mike and others will be able to explain why isolating type knobs are better. Miguel With a properly designed amplifier this should not happen. You may have noticed in the Jaycar HA, that there is an earthing lead at the front of the attenuator. There is also one in the Class A HA. Even if not fitted with a 3 pin mains plug, taking a lead from there to the the 0volts/earth line should stop this problem. Alex

If you look up Mike's thread here on upgrading MF gear you will see these are two different beasts. Personally after owning both I prefer the X-10D.
