At £14.99 shipped they've got to be worth a punt See Here They appear to be based on the AKG K-240..... I don't normally condone cheap rip offs but my curiosity has got the better of me and I have ordered a pair.... I want to see just what £14.99 can buy you. Will report back once they arrive.

These things arrived this morning and have TOTALLY blown me away!! The sound quality is just AMAZING with bass I have rarely experienced from a pair of headphones (apart from the Sennheiser HD250ll linears).... I am GOBSMACKED that £14.99 can buy you this quality of sound.... these really ARE AKG killers, the ad is not wrong......
Beautifully comfortable, quite lightweight and they pack a huge punch in the SQ dept. I'll be back with more later (including pictures) but right now I'm off to order another pair.... what a bargain!!

Made in Taiwan Merton. www.superlux.com.tw/new/They are VERY interesting Leo and most definitely set to be the headphone bargain of the century IMO. Yes!, in a nutshell they appear to have similar mids / highs to the AKG but with a good measure of bass (and GOOD bass at that!) I feel quite cheated looking at my headphone armoury and thinking how much they all cost..... The HD681 "easily" competes with the "high end" European 'phones and betters most of them. They have decent soundstage for a semi open design, very revealing mids, "honest" treble all underpinned by a taught, deep, rhythmic bass..... erm, for £14.99 I am absolutely AMAZED. The most immediate downside (there's always a downside) is the material used for the pads..... it could get quite sticky after a while.... I've had them on my head for about an hour now and the pads are not the most comfortable I've experienced (not as uncomfortable as Grado pads though!)..... the headband is self adjusting and pressure on the ears is pretty much spot on.... they are a good fit on my head..... now if they were to fit velour pads I'd be a totally happy camper ;D If I were Mr. Sennheiser I'd be extremely embarrassed charging £250 for my offerings when there are 'phones out there like this.....

Have you seen that you can get three different pairs depending on your listening pleasure?
I would guess that the main HD681 would be the preference but if they are all the cheep then we can all afford a collection of headphones with different signatures.

Found a set on ebay that someone bought, thinking that it head a built in mic, and so is selling on unused. I've bid 99p, just in case I can get a bargain!
It'd be interesting as to what they sound like.

I'd be interested in a pair of each...... I've been listening to the "standard" HD681 since yesterday (about 7 hours head time) and these are INSANELY good headphones for the money.... if the AKG K-240 had sounded this good I'd have kept them! Just HOW the hell can this el cheapo Taiwanese company make headphones that sound BETTER than the long established Euro companies and do it for pennies? Someone, somewhere has been ripping us off bigtime ;D

Alex, Merton does have a point. Sadly the reason this headphones are so cheap is the the factories in many countries do not have environmental compliance as an objective while doing business. Furthermore this companies pay very low wages and make them work very long hours. I realize that is their customs and how they do business so I am no one to criticize how a country treats its citizens. However what we have here is a copy of a known product being sold very inexpensively not only for the two reasons given above (no environmental compliance and exploitation of workers), but you can add there was no R&D to add cost to the product. By the way, we have some of the same things here in the good old USA w/ sweat shops. So we are not immune and I suspect the same may be happening in other self proclaimed developed countries. MIGUEL My point was that MR. Sensitive" A.K.A. MERTON, has the happy knack of posting single liners that could be found offensive by many members. We have a very diverse membership, and such comments need to be phrased better, with clear explanations. Otherwise, as I jokingly suggested, there may be a few people happy to assist MERTON to meet his ancestors. Unfortunately, sweat shops are a world wide phenomenon, and most likely continue to exist due mainly to corporate greed. Alex

it could also be viewed in the form of them being made cheap... for the company that is. they just increase the profit. problem is they also destroy the consumer base in doing so.

They are in a double mill - if all manufactures went to East Asian - they destroy the consumer base in Europe and north America But some people knows more about a New World Order en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilderberg

yes, unfortunately for them they are destroying the sovereignty off all the authorities they'll need to pull off NWO. betrayal is always felt deep... and that feeling lasts a long time.

New World Order. Isn't that what Adolf Hitler tried to create ? I think NWO is mainly the brainchild of those who resent the power and influence of the U.S.A. Especially some European countries that had their moment in history, and want to regain their influence. Just look at all the problems they have already caused with ROHS, lead free solder and mandatory SMPS. P.S. Just stirring ,chappies from the European Community ! ;D

Henry Kissinger , US Secretary of State Born: 27 May 1923 Birthplace: Furth, GermanyFriedrich I rest my case ! Alex Yes ACK - but you cannot say Henry Kissinger was a Nazi - AFAIK his family flee to America Nazi similar groups hang over in some countries outside Europe (before WII in USA too, I see a TV report from). I am not happy about the right populist, anti-immigrant parties here in Austria - FPOe & BZOe The social democrats (please not mix up with communists) lost votes. We slip a bit to right. This syndrome is in Europe and other not german language countries too. So I stop this .... I want to discuss politics too - but not here in RockGrotto. IMHO discussion about help to reduce prejudices.

Getting the thread back on track. Mikes comments on these cans got me interested and i got a pair to use on my laptop for gaming. The thing is they really are everything people say they are.
Truthfully these have one of the best "out of the box" sounds I've ever heard. Or in this case out of the shrink wrap.
The bass was a little sloppy and the mids and highs a little recesssed but the overal sound was pretty coherent for a new can and amazing for something this cheap.
They are quite comfortable but do get a little warm on the ear in a warm room.
I decided to try them out on my Solo/Arcam DV135 combination.
I have compared them directly to Allesandro MS1s, Sennheiser HD595s and my AKG K701s. Only the AKGs leave them in the dust and considering they cost me £192 back when the pound was strong that's no mean feat.
Compared to the Allesandro MS1s the HD681s are not out of their depth at all. Bass is a little more controlled on the Allesandros and the Mids and Highs are a little clearer and more forward but the HD681s win out on soundstage presenting a more believable image.
Remember this is from a can that has only had a few hours bedding in so far!
The HD595s are a little better at everything than the HD681s but not so much that you would rush to swap them for the HD 681s if the 595s were suddenly available.
Comparing the HD681s to the AKG K701s you suddenly appreciate the leap in quality that the AKGs offer but then you are talking about cans that cost 10 or more times what you can pick up the HD681s for.
One place the HD681s excel is in un amped use. These are quite simply the best cans I've got for un amped use. They make my MP3 player and portable CD player sound great presenting a decent soundstage from their built in mediocre amps.
Over all these are an amazing headphone for the cash. I get the feeling they won't be plugged into my Laptop all the time.
