i've had it. i wanna feel my toes again and now it is my mission to do so!
the last straw was this bitch manager staring at my sanuk shoes, asking me what they were (i told her shoes)... and then continuing to stare at them and then getting pissy when i finally decided to just walk off (i wasn't on the clock so wasn't exactly inclined to stand around letting some bitch stare at my shoes)... then she tells me i cant' wear them even though i've been wearing them a week or two....
so...
i figure i can take sick days until i either get fired or get better, or i can just quit. i'm not sure if i'd get employees comp or not....
but one way or another sticking my feet in ice water at least an hour a day and getting some god damned feeling back in my toes!
and as for going to a doctor, that's not an option as they'll not only charge the up front fee, but they'll also charge a ton of other fees for whatever other crap they can pull out their precious little asses...
i applied for insurance a while back and won't get it until either october or jan 1st... so... there....

Sometimes I question the evaluation "Bitch Manager". Generally people are not bitches with no provocation............... No wonder MERTON thinks she is a bitch ! Anyone stupid enough to wear anything less than safety shoes with steel toe caps when unloading stacked high pallets, deserves to get far more than dirty looks from a manager.Perhaps Walmart doesn't want to pay compensation to dickheads who are too stupid to protect their feet with appropiate footware. Surely Walmart has clear guidelines somewhere about what should be mandatory requirements in certain areas?

For your information guys.... SANUK shoes are "flip flop" base with canvas uppers, they are very comfortable but are more akin to a "sock" than a shoe as far as protection is concerned.... I certainly wouldn't want ANYTHING falling on my foot wearing a pair of these

I am sure that even the U.S.A. has the equivalent of what is "Occupational Health and Safety" requirements. You have an accident wearing unsuitable footwear , and any claim against your employer would be laughed out of court. That is unless your employer has not observed relevant requirements. No wonder the "bitch" was staring at your feet! SandyK

well, you come down here, look at the shoes people here wear, and then go on to effectively describe to me how new balance and nike make steel toe work shoes in a style that looks exactly the same as a tennis shoes, and sir, i will say that you don't have your head completely stuck up your ass and full of shit. and what accident are you talking of? i haven't had an accident. oh , i forget, some people also wear walking shoes, and one guy wears what look to be boots. whether or not they're steel toed i don't know. of course, it is complete bullshit you see.... telling you what they actually wear here and not just telling you what you'd prefer to hear, right?

MERTON You are the one with your head up your anus. There are laws to protect people like yourself as Mrarroyo has already stated. Just because the rest of the casuals/night time shift packers don't either know any better , or even care, is no excuse for someone with your educational background to ignore OHSA Regulatory requirements. Why don't you check what the requirements are for your Industry. You could even ask the "bitch", as she obviously saw something wrong with what footware you were wearing. Walmart is of course also in the wrong for not enforcing OHSA regulations for the protection of their own staff. Specialised footware is often subsidised by the employers in many industries. Like Miguel, I have had to abide by these regulations, and ensure that staff under my control also abided by them. SandyK.

they never pick on any of the other people for their footwear so i maintain her bitch status.
and newbalance and nike don't make safety shoes.
also, i must note that the reason i was wearing those shoes is because they have no heel. i don't understand why it's so hard to find shoes without heels, but they're one of the few i could find. no heel-less shoes i've seen have safety toes...
so i guess it is to the point that i have to quit. my toes were getting bad in the flat soled shoes. heeled shoes would surely cause permanent damage (apparently this can evolve into a constant, permanent and debilitating pain in the ball of the foot if ignored).

MERTON man what's the matter with you, I even wear safety boots when I'm doing wood work or metal work at home, you know you can get some real , I mean real comfortable work boots these days ;D As for quitting well if you can't handle the pace then quit and let someone else have a go, meanwhile you'll starve simple as shyt, at least you will have had the guts to pull the pin. Merton, maybe we should just quit this thread instead of getting fired up!
Decent safety shoes have an anatomically formed sole that will dissipate the pressure from standing for an extended period of time, they allow enough room for your toes so that they won't turn numb. They also provide insulation when the asphalt beneath your feet is too cold or too hot. The safety tips are insurance.
You can get on the intelligent worker band wagon, or just be a pain in the ass until you do get fired. That will not help future quests for work.
A bad attitude is contagious and can easily turn chronic. Get help before it is too late.

the toes have been numbe since april. and being anatomically formed does not involve having a heel. these shoes all have heels.

seriously though, if it has a heel it's not providing you with the ability to walk as you naturally would without shoes on.

Probably talking at a brick wall here... but walking barefoot (naturally?) isn't necessarily *best* for your health...
My feet roll inwards when I walk barefoot... good pair of shoes is not only much better for my feet, but more comfortable too.

some people think that over time going barefoot can correct such problems. "some people" are misinformed too . Again I will stress that you should see a medical professional if you have concerns about existing problems with your feet , then wear specially fitted shoes, with prescribed inserts as required, if there is a problem. One of my Telstra managers had this done, and was VERY happy with the results. (The same manager was found to have a racing heartbeat, which was some kind of fibrillation, and had to go to hospital briefly for a "Power Refresh" Apparently this corrected that problem.) Sometimes problems caused by excessive walking over a period of time ,may benefit from a change of job, and a break from restrictive, but necessary footwear. This happened to my son who as a security guard walked around a large private educational facility with playing fields etc. many times a night for several years. SandyK

One for MERTON ?
The various Generations
The Silent Generation are people born before 1946. 63+yo The Baby Boomers are people born between 1946 and 1959. 50-63yo The Generation X are people born between 1960 and 1979. 30-49yo The Generation S are people born between 1975 and 1987. 21-35yo
The Generation Y are people born between 1980 and 1995. 14-30yo
The Silent Generation were born prior to trendy Generational names.
Baby Boomers are so named due to there being so many of them born in this period.
Generation X was at the time, the "Unknown" Generation.
Generation S is the "Stupid" (some say "Self-Centered") Generation, known throughout the current workforce.

MERTON If you read the generation thing again, you will see there is an overlap between 21 and 30 year olds. Not all your generation are "stupid or self centred", some obviously are just generation Y. But obviously there are quite a few of your generation who think the world owes them, and aren't prepared to work hard and wait for their rewards like previous generations had to. SandyK

yes, and you are directing that at me. i've worked hard. not consistently, but fairly hard... specially considering i've worked with numb toes, mowed lawns for 12 hours at time (although not every day of course) my first two years of college, even though i could hardly breathe afterward due to allergies, and cycled in traffic that most of you would be too cowardly to even dream of doing so, just to get to work.
you know, i'm finding you types to be dumber and dumber. the more i listen to this supposed "work hard" line, the more i realize that when i do, i just end up screwing myself over as with this numb toes thing (specially if the doc tells me what i'm thinking he's gonna tell me).
and by the way, if you people really wanted to "work hard" you'd go down to china and work in a factory 100 hours a week for 80 cents an hour, drink the water from the river that that factory dumps in, and die an early death from stomach cancer. but noooo, that's just not good enough for you is it?

MERTON That was not directed at you. You have graduated from Uni, and have a paying job, and are not reliant on government handouts. However many of your generation want everything now, and don't care how unethical the work practices are that are needed to achieve what normally takes until retirement to achieve. These are the type of people that helped bring the world economy to it's knees. No, they aren't all from your generation, but many younger people these days have 2 favourite words, both of which are the same : GIMME ! GIMME ! SandyK

many of these people are in their 40's an onward too, you know... notably the politicians, bernie madoff and all that riffraff
this is a problem that's gone on throughout history... i think that this time though, it has finally gone too far and engulfed everything it can... and soon it will be viewed as the crime it is.
