I couldn't reply without a Piccy! (takes longer than the opamp) OK, it's in, a gave it damn good push, shove, shuffle and now the sound is coming. Very different to the 2134. Slightly drawn in but with bigger bass, slight loss of nuances.... Chris later... got some rock blasting through now, it's happier with this, giving a good solid head bang. I'll have work through the old faves, make some notes and come back to 2134. Bye the way, the sun is already run in as it lived in SCHA before extra mods and the LM4562HA ousted it.

OK, after an hour or so with the Sun in the NG27 the combination failed the most basic criteria, I got bored , the music was uninvolving, I wonder if a higher vdc would help? At first I thought it was just a valve like smoothness, but no. Anyhoo, I swapped in the LM4562NA, instant recovery of my attention. Detail returned, bass bloom tightened up, naturalness of tone improved, rhythems bopped along nicely. I didn't get as far as popping the 2134 back in for comparison, maybe tonight. I also still have the LM4562HA to try after that. Keep rollin', rollin', rollin' ;D

Chris, I am 24 hours behind you and have finally got the Sun in situ: First off, I'd forgotten just how good the NG27 sounded.... there's really not that much in it going from the Aune to the NG27. The Sun? I actually quite like it in the NG27 (driving HD-250ll linears) The bass is very extended and the overall presentation quite "warm".... sure, it doesn't have the snap and polish of, say, an AD-8620 but for those who like a "tubey" sound this may just be what the doctor ordered. It probably sounds a bit different to me Chris as I am using different 'phones to you and running an extra BUF-634 per channel.... what 'phones were you listening with? I am listening to Apple lossless files played through itunes. As nice as it may be (and I DO like it) it's certainly not practical in the little NG-27 unless, of course, you are prepared to drill a hole in the enclosure, fit an extension lead and mount the Sun out of the box.... OR, cut a square in the top of the enclosure.... I'd be prepared to cut a square as that would actually look quite nifty if done correctly I'll give her another few hours playtime and then roll in the earth and the moon (now I've got the NG-27 stripped down)..... the more I listen to the Sun, the more I'm liking it.... at first it was a bit 2 dimensional but has certainly opened up over the past few hours.... from past experience with it I don't think it's the sort of animal you just switch on and listen to.... it requires a good amount of time to "cook" (stabilise) before it comes on song. Offset readings with me are L/C 1.7mV and R/C -3.9mV so maybe my example is a tad more in spec than yours Chris. Alex...... have you tried the earth module I sent you yet? Mike.

Hmmm, interesting. All 3 of my Suns measure very similar to each other at the figures I gave before (1x standard & 2x "sunset-mod"). All the other opamps I have measure between 0.2mv and 1.5mv. Also, my decoupling caps are marked 474J100 and yours are fatter 684J100. We may have different generations of Sun? I'm using AKG701 and K280 (after trying the Senny 600 and 560) and listening to EAC Wav off a usb stick. Alex, All the opamps I'm using have been around the block, so should only take a short while to settle in after swaps. I swapped the 4562NA back to 2134, I found the NA to be both more refined and resolved more nuances, a slightly more solid and more tuneful performance. Now I'm tuned back into NA, the HA is going in...

Mike Far too much else on my plate at the moment, including fine tuning my Class A preamp after a recent upgrade, constructing the new Silicon Chip DAC from the kit and bits I already have, although JLH and PSU PCBa are now completed .Preparing the PC before installing my new copy of Windows 7 , so that I don't lose all my email contacts details, programs registration numbers etc., finding all the Installation discs for various hardware and software etc. Add to that lethargy due to 30C days with broken air conditioning ! Oh, old age playing a part too. Just feel like catnaps all the time. Alex

I dunno Chris, I think mine is quite an early Sun? You know, it's "still" in the NG-27 and I'm still listening to it..... I thought it would be a case of a quick listen and back to the Aune but, nope.... looks like the NG-27 is going to stay hooked up for a good few weeks.
The soundstage is not as "expansive" as the Aune but that is not a bad thing.... the Sun / NG-27 combo is a very intimate listen and there's definitely something magical about it, albeit on a small "personal" scale.... maybe it's the glow of the Sun that's drawing me in (you just can't help looking at it can you?) or maybe it's the nice organic "tone" that's doing it..... whatever it is, I like it.
I was always one for 200 watt amps and floorstanding speakers and enjoyed "sound" that rattled the floorboards and punched me in the chest like a jackhammer UNTIL I heard a little valve amp powering a pair of Rogers LS35A.... Everything I was used to but on a much smaller scale, and a more informative / enjoyable scale too......
The NG-27 / Sun reminds me of the "earmax" type of tone.... nice and thrummy / euphonic.... the kind of sound that should be savoured like a fine cheese and vintage port......
Of course, it also depends on what type of music you're listening to..... I find the NG-27 / Sun combo works best with simple jazz / electro..... throw something a bit more "busy" at it and, not so good.....
I don't know if you have "Touch Yello" by Yello Chris? If you do then have a listen to it through the NG-27 / Sun combo..... VERY nice indeed!

Mike,
Glad you are enjoying the Sun in the 27. The combination was just too polite for me.
I've now got the LM4562HA in there, initially promising but I haven't had much chance to give a good listen.
Chris

The combination was just too polite for me. I understand what you're saying Chris, everything is slightly rounded off by a syrupy smooth edge.... great for casual listening though.

I'm now trying the GDaudio "Moon" and, already, prefer it to the Sun in the NG-27.... it has a similar bass delivery (deep) but everything else is more organic / raw.... I think you'd really like this one Chris! I'll report back once she's been in circuit for 24 hours. Funny this, cause I thought the Moon was supposed to be the "tubey" sounding module.....

I also have a hard time to understand the tubesound, but it do give a bit of soul/life to the mix. IMO the sun is just to "aggresive" to me and mine does not light up the hole room

Claus, It depends what amp you are using them in. As you see above I found the Sun way too smooth, verging on vague, in the NG27. In SCHA it is superb, articulate and agile, though marginally pipped by the LM4562HA. In my Claymore integrated they are the best I have tried by a mile. All to my ears of course. You just don't know until you try I'm still enjoying the LM4562HA in the NG27 at the moment...

Interesting stuff guys I find the Moon best for Jazz, Downtempo and Vocals as it has a slightly warmer, more laid back sound. The Earth is more "general purpose" and the Sun adds excitement to Movies and Video games IME. What PSU are you guys using with your NG27's btw?
