PD: I am thinking of buying the JDS Labs cMoyBB™ v2.02 which retails for about $62 w/ S&H. I had one but as nice as it sounded it was not a keeper. Stock it is a very nice unit. I mostly did not like the altoid tin though. Now I have a CSG cMoy and a Dual Opamp cMoy with a power supply for each opamp per channel, it is impressive.

I spend £10 a month on Spotify. That means I can download a lot of stuff and I don't even own it. Of course, I can buy it if I want a good copy on CD or buy a download from Spotify.
Result is - I listen to a lot more music than I ever have and the music is my focus; not primarily the gear. (Although you wouldn't think that reading me here!!)
If I find something that makes Spotify sound better, then it's for me. However, my main activity is listening for pleasure. Today, I have had headphones on for hours. Either bluetooth so I can move around; iem so I can go out; or full blown at home while I type here!!
However, it's the music that motivates me, not the gear. I have spent the whole evening fascinated with 'Beardfish' output so my listening is quite focused. Earlier in the evening, I was going through old Genesis stuff.
In other words, I love music and anything that improves my listening interests me because I am in the fortunate position of being able to get the stuff and I have some very talented friends.
I have no ruck with people who seem to think hi fi is a rip off. Probably, for them it is a rip off because it's not important to them. As long as they hear a tune, they think it's fine. However, I'm capable of analysing and pulling music apart by listening and better equipment helps me do that.
It's not just about cost of equipment at all. The cost for me is irrelevant anyway!! However, for someone else, it's vital if they want to develop their listening.
RG is good for that. Mike and Frans are expert at spotting bargains and improving them. I never considered headphones as a serious listening device until I read stuff here and on Headfi.

Ian Ian I don't know anything about Spotify, so I'm asking you this question in the hope of a quick and easy answer! I had a teenager staying in the house recently, whose sole source of music was Spotify. I discovered that in 2 or 3 days she managed to use up a vast chunk of my (cheapskate) monthly download limit of 10GB. On occasion, she used 1 or 2GB in a day, which to me equates to about 3 CDs with no compression. Is it conceivable that Spotify can use up this much bandwidth? (Or, more likely, was there YouTube or even TV downloading going on!)

Unfortunately it is possible because she must have been streaming albums to her device and streams are at a healthy bit rate.
For Spotify or watching tv (like I do as well) you need to have unlimited downloading. I also use Lovefilm which is heavy.
Basically, when you stream anything, you are permanently downloading while you watch or listen.

i feel lucky, i figured out the thrice damed hiss in my cmoy, its the ac power supply, i was able to replace it with one from my friend and the hiss is gone. sounds alot better now too. and on the bandwith part, i sometimes cut through 25gb a day. although i get a good solid 15MBps constant with a low of 10MBps and a high of 16.7MBps... i have extremely fast internet. so i tend to do alot of downloading of... pretty much anything i see fit to download. my isp limits me to 2 terrabytes per day. i find that if i wanted to download that much in a day. i couldn't do it. just not possible. i like the fast internet, it makes the most of the time i have. though i think i could get faster, i already pay $125 for internet and $80 for cable tv (i dont know why, i only watch three channels... but the though of not having the choices bothers me) and i doubt my folks would pay anymore.

Jeez, 25GB is two and half month's worth of my (budget, £12 pcm) ISP allowance!

I have unlimited downloads. It's unfortunately with BT because that's all I can get here, but I stream radio, tv, and download music as well as wander around the house listening to Spotify.
You need unlimited really if you want to do any streaming.
