Alex: Sorry if I have offended you in any way, that is not something I want to do. I was only writing about "normal" kids.
I have been working with ADD and ADHD kids and it is very hard on the parents and also the surrounding people are very affected by the illness. Once my attitude was that it was just stupid parents that could not stimulate their children, but I now have learnt more (I do get wiser, occasionally). Having said that I do think that some doctors are very quick to diagnose some of the kids and then give them medicine that is unnessesary, which is a very big problem, those poor kids have to live a life struggeling with the sideeffects and also the wanted effect gives them a hard time.
Wow this is a serious disussion now, just because my kid got some crappy toy..

Chris's response is the about word perfect, as to how I would respond. I bring my own kids, as I was. They do as they are told, have manners and show respect to other people and don't go around smashing things up. They don;t get what they want, all the time, and work hard for rewards. I've not had to smack them, as usually a look is all that's needed.
I also don't agree with parents who seem to allow their children complete free range. With no controls, they'll just turn into yobs, and does also seem to happen when people go on holiday.
The thing is that not all children are little shits. I've been involved in the local scout groups for a few years, and for every 20 kids, 1 will be a git. The rest are normal kids, who want to learn and have fun. I also see similar elsewhere. If you expand that sort of figures, it still the small percentage that give the rest a bad name.
And as for kids playing with toys in a Drs. surgery, what sort of parent would let their children play with those scummy, plague infested things!

clausdk You didn't offend me. At the time, I did not give you sufficient background to realise there was a degree of Autism involved. Unfortunately, you can't always make children like that go to their room, and you sometimes have to take drastic measures before they get too aggressive, which can lead to them hurting themselves. He was expelled from Primary school a couple of days after initial enrollment, because of aggressive behaviour. Public Schools do not normally have enough resources to deal properly with such children either. On the occasion that I mentioned about the DOCS worker intervening, they were walking away slowly, in the belief that he would get up off the footpath and run after them.It seems that whatever they do, it is judged wrong by many people. A good smack across the bum or legs with a ruler while clothed, is often sufficient to calm him down enough to start reasoning with him. They also have to be very careful that he actually swallows his Ritalin, which helps enormously, but unfortunately does not always last sufficiently long.

oh, i see, so the info i offered is useless because you have all the facts... of course, you must be quite malicious to not have used them to fix the problem. MERTON Once again, if you had fully read the posts, you would have seen that he will be at a live-in remedial course for 7 days in December with his family, where they will attempt to work out strategies.Like you, he appears to have weird fixations as part of his condition. These include being absolutely terrified by little insects such as mosquitos. In fact, part of his diagnosis was broadly similar to what our missing member ,the respected author Ron Lacey, who had a very broad grasp of the subject, diagnosed for you, based on your previous antics. I think he must have been pretty close to the mark, because he sure knew how to push all your buttons ! SandyK i see, so insulting me and acting an ass in necessary for you to disregard the info i've presented. it must be hard to preserve that pride of yours.

MERTON We have seen, and continue to be given far better professional advice than you are able to offer based on a cursory search on the Net. You would be the last person I would take advice from in this area, as you feel you know better than highly trained physicians, and disregard their advice on a regular basis, even as far as refusing to take medication prescribed for you. SandyK Yeh, give it a rest MERTON.... your silly little quips are becomming very tired (especially the ones about "old people") please stick to what you're good at (wanking, being unemployable, ignoring doctor's, destroying baths, wearing spandex, painting childish pictures whilst wearing spandex, pleading poverty, shitting in plastic buckets, eating "grits" etc. etc. etc.) Get off the computer, go and get some real "life experience" and maybe come back in 20 years time when you may have developed a brain.

WOW ! Are you in a lot of pain too, Mike ? Seriously, I do apologise for my lack of tolerance at the moment, especially where MERTON is concerned. Hopefully, this damn Arthritis pain will start to ease soon, and I will be back to just my usual sarcastic self ! I just hope that our esteemed member from Rockhampton isn't going through similar at the moment, as he has been fairly quiet lately. Alex

I don't remember asking for your opinion, as you are far from qualified to answer. I do however welcome constructive comments from members who are parents, especially those who have experience with children who have ADD, or ADHD. SandyK
