Well I guess I'm a bit late to participate in this group-buy... Don't suppose anyone has any spares do they that they could sell me?

Robert more than likely still has a bunch. Incidentally, if you could put one aside for me, that'd be great

Got back today, from looking at nurses surveying, and found a nice little parcel from Australia. Three minutes later, I'm on first impressions with the LM4562HA. First impression is space, and lots of it, all around instruments and voices. A quick bit of spoken word found voices more natural, more in the room. A couple of tracks which seemed to suffer with sibilance, or were bright, were more pleasant now, but with the same amount of detail. These are very initial impressions, and I'm well aware that it'll be settled in proper in a couple of days, and need a revisit. Anyhoo, she's being left on to get her ready! Many thanks Robert for organising this group buy, you're a top man, and also thanks Alex for bringing this to our collective. One last question, Robert. Will those strange, arcane symbols you also sent help improve the sound quality?

LM4562HA has arrived safe and is burning in as we speak. Impressions to follow. Thanks again Robert

Leo, it's presently burning in the Yulong DAH1... warm to the touch but not burn your finger hot.

I'm a tad behind you Dave, this is as far as I've got! Not even in the amp yet Please meet Tarquin in his very 'now' crown and Tabatha in her retro ruff...

I was going to give Robert a plug for his perfboard method for forming the LM4562HA pins which works a treat but seems its caught on. Groovy pics. I haven't soldered mine, seems a tight fit though and will be an easy lift if it ultimately finds its home directly soldered into the PCB. The 3M damping material 'wings' seem to do a reasonable job as a heat sink. Sound cheers.. jeffc

OK, popped in Tabatha (soldered-to-socket version) this morning, it's only about 6 hours since but first thought is, "my K280s never sounded that clear before, a little extra attack without harshness too". Little nuances that I needed the 701 to hear are coming through on the 280. Can't wait for it to sound even better as stated above, I'll have to find the box with the 701s in!

....looking good but need to ask, why you have R3 and R6 fitted ? Don't you need R3 & R6 installed if using the SCHA as a standalone amp being fed from a high impedance source?

Will You don't need them, but they are able to further improve distortion performance by a VERY small amount , as stated in the original article, provided that a volume control is used at the input to the amplifier. In other words, a high impedance source. Robert has a thing about those resistors being fitted. I don't have a problem with them, and all the units that I have constructed work fine with them fitted. as have those of many other members who have fitted them. However, feel free to fit wire links there instead if you want. You are unlikely to hear the difference, as the distortion is already much lower than many headphone amplifiers. Alex

OK HS is a bit wacky but it works just dandy . Maybe I'll send Robert some tape to see how creative me can be with it. And thanks for the heads up on the resistor, seems its time I revisited the SCHA documentation and the tweaks thread to put together a to do list, including ditching that WIMA FKP for the ceramic cap that came with the kit. cheers.. jeffc

However, I doubt that you will hear any real improvement. Alex

Just arrived back home tonight and what was waiting for me behind the door?........ a little package from Australia with two metal can LM4562's inside, thanks Robert, I'll get one of them into the SCHA ASAP and have a good listen I'm also going to audition them in an old Marantz CD52MKllSE (along with the GDaudio Earth modules) to see how they fare in that puppy...... actually, should be "puppies" as I now have three of them (CD52) with plans to to turbo charge one of them and keep the other two for spare parts..... more on this in a seperate thread...... Seems there are a few alternative methods of heatsinking the metal cans, I'll try the T05 sinks first off then try the nifty ones Miguel is sending me, who knows may end up with a combination of the two of them (T05 and Miguel special) Anyways, just thinking out loud here... will upload a few pics (as this seems to be the done thing ) as soon as the can is in situ.... by the way guys, what pin goes where... is there a diagram? Mike.

cheez and I have some more to get rid of interesting the chap also uses it in an "SCHA" and the chap likes my perf board lead forming technique ;D it's a wonder there wasn't a link to rockgrotto for more details Robert
