The unfortunate thing is that with renovations happening here at the moment I haven’t had any real chance to test it out fed from a good DAC rather than from a old Luxman CDP. Still sounds pretty darn good though. Will get test with a better feed soon. cheers.. jeffc That always gets in the way of good blodging time nice and grounded heatsinks mmm gotta like that I might make an observation generally the de-coupling caps go from B+ to ground and B- to ground unless it's a single ended PSU ;D Looking good though,a big thumbs up PS See Rick didn't hurt one little bit

Hey Robert, Got one belly laugh then . I was unsure about +V to gnd and -V to ground but thought about cap lead inductance that folk fret about and TBH didn't know that going across the +V/-V wouldn't work similarly. Thanks for the simple correction, with the minor embarrassment felt it will not be forgotten. Best way to learn is make the odd 'non-critical' mistake and have it picked up. Have some 2.2uf and 4.7uf tants in the box that my bet is you'd would suggest I use 'the right way this time and polarity considered' instead of, or as well as, the silver mica. ;D cheers.. jeffc

Haha Robert, Just a tad more off course than me and I get the message, do homework before warming soldering iron. ;D Might side step that PS mod for the chip as I'm using a JLH PSRR and TBH I'd probably stuff it up. Best left for those more adventurous folk with more than 1/10th of a clue what they're doing. cheers.. jeffc

That's impressive Robert - you even managed to end up with a completely different pcb in there... Good job

yes to question #1 no to #2 Sounds best with a simple full wave rectified Pi filter PSU IMO after testing with many ps topologies and ps topology combinations (series then shunt) with the ultimate in SQ from my own listening having been a Cap/DC Choke/Cap Pi-Filter but since I "pulled" the choke from another power supply and replaced it where it belongs (DITB Power Station) the amp will ship with the second best sounding option-a Cap/resistor/cap Pi-Filter. Being that the PS is external is can be changed to anything the end user decides on (like with the op amp) though I suggest that person listens first before making a decision "just because" and a rough six months it has been too I am spreading myself so thin trying to beat the mini-recession we are in (working three separate outfits to compile a full weekly paycheck though one I am soon to leave before someone gets hurt me not liking to be treated like a "newb" by fkn "kids" half my age, skill or experience level just because they were there "first" ) that electronics is something more to USE in my free time than to BUILD so I have been lax even though I do think about "building" during the rare "my life,my time" moments. In fact I am for the first time in my 53 years TIRED OF THE GRIND and have no desire to even get up and go forth the rewards for my efforts not being where they need to be considering the cost of living in Fairfield County Connecticut so more hours for less means not only less free time but when I DO get time for me too fkn out of it to give a sh*t about anything but kicking back and doing squat. I really DO need to retire and get back to enjoying my days again before I turn out even more miserable than I am now which anyone can tell you is pretty damn bad and where a simple question can lead to WHAT ! CAN'T YOU SEE I AM BUSY ?....even though that "busy" is me just sitting there sipping on a "cold one" trying to come up with a "PLAN-B" so I can get my life back....................more time for just sitting and sipping, thinking about other sh*t I should be doing

"Some" would say "still relatively young"..... I, personally, think we should all die at 30 (seriously) did you ever watch the film "logan's run"?...... Great concept! The minute you hit 30 you are DEAD.... no questions asked... dead as a dodo....... I really do believe that we should be put to sleep at around 30 - 35 years of age.... The prime time and anything "over" 35 is "downhill" all the way.... it would also save on wars, save on pension funds, save the health service, save on having to look at stupid "old people" counting their pennies at the checkouts..... You would be told, as soon as you were old enough to understand, that your life STOPPED at a certain age and, by god, you would make sure that your thirty years were fully packed with "life" before the powers that be injected you with the big sleep.... 53? another 17 years and you'll be 70 mate.... GROSS! you are closer to 70 than you are to 30..... there is no going back, however many "beers" you swallow..... it's all downhill to the grave.... not a nice thought is it? Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock....... every second that passes is another second closer to death.... you're looking in the rear view mirror, never to recapture that stretch of road again.... Do us a favour before you die mate? Buy a digital camera and take a few pics of your SCHA amp build. Thanks

Blimey, everybody off to the 'sleepshop' at 30 years old? I'm 37, and would have missed the best years of my life, If I'd lost the last 7. It's only now that my family and I are reaping the rewards of the hard work earlier in my life, Life's what you make it, regardless of your age www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G42rmPvbbUAnd now, some headphone amplifiers.......

I thought I was the old guy Mikester but you obviously did not "see" (lose your glasses dude ?) my post above where I wrote I DO have a digital camera in my rucksack that I use when hiking/concerts that allow pics and that (and here is MY old age showing, memory is the first to go ;D ) mistakenly stated was a 3.5 megapixel Canon but it is instead a 5 megapixel so while not "pro pic" quality good enough to get the dirty deed done As for seventy, HAH ! No shot bro so not worrying about the drooling on myself in the wheelchair stage of life rather I expect to self implode (trying to hold it in after someone pissed me off ) in the next few years or so the "armor" not being quite what it used to be thus containment harder each year

You know Rick..... my father had 7 brothers and one sister, none of them made it past 58 years old and they all died "suddenly" (one died whilst shopping, one died in a car, one died on the toilet etc.)..... out of all their children "THREE" have already died aged 52, 54 and the latest 51...... All smokers (including me) and, even though I know smoking isn't good for you (what is?) I have no intention of quitting.... I'd much rather be soldering an amp one minute and dead on the floor the next (whatever the age).... much better than dying a slow, painful death.... when you're gone you're gone, not much you can do about it. My girlfriend wants me to stop smoking "etc." and says it's "never too late".... I tell her that I am pre programmed to die in my 50's and that's that, I can't see "me" living into my 90's when the norm for my family is to die in their 50's and, to be quite honest, I don't want to live to a ripe old age.... I've seen enough of "life" on this plane and can't wait to get onto the next level (whatever that may be).... I'm not frightened of death (bring it on) and am a realist.... one thing is certain, we ALL have to go at one point or another, when your times up it's up whether you jog along at the side of traffic (keep "fit"), smoke cigarettes, drink booze, practice the koran or read the fckin' bible.... we are all going to die and "when" really isn't a concern of mine, anytime is fine by me...... All these "grab life by the balls" types make me want to heave up peddling "fitness" and "diet" and "non smoking".... they are so busy practicing all this crap they actually miss the meaning of life.......... FUN! Sure it's healthy to eat mung beans, go jogging, not smoke, not drink, not swear etc. etc..... I, for one, don't call that "living" Anyways..... sorry to go off topic..... show us the pRon

Mike Altronics has something similar, they vary from AU$23 to AU$50 each, depending on size. I am using one for the Lumileds and DC converter in my auto Emergency lighting for the kitchen area. I think it is made by Hammond also. A very nice looking design. Alex

Nice Work, oohms! I take it that the toggle switches at the front are for switching the dac in/out? There is a nice thread on here about the DAC rockgrotto.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=m&action=display&thread=1672&page=1 that might also be of interest. If you get upgradeitis, It might be worthwhile contacting RobertKD, as he bought a stock of the LM4562 in a metal casing. If you like what your normal LM4562 is doing in the SCHA, you'll love the metal can version. Quite a few of us bought them from Rob, and it's very worthwhile
