Martin,
Give me a further 24 hours....... the opamp stash is like a coral reef..... I'll need to get a loupe to identify what's what.
I didn't realise I had accumulated so many and gone so blind;)
Mike.

Ha ha no problems Mike "my eyes are dim I cannot see"
I know the feeling well. Back in the day when I went to local surplus store for electronic bits the owner always used a loupe to identify the tranies, diodes etc and we always had a little smile. Now like you I need a glass to identify bits too🤓😧
All the best Martin

Bloody hell Martin, I've just waded through a few hundred opamps and not an 8260 in sight! I had a good few of them back in the day but it seems I must have used them in amps I've modded. Here's a photo of my opamp stash: Hosted on FotkiPretty blurred, bad lighting here at night, but gives you an idea...... the box is full of all sorts of dual / single opamps but not an 8260 to be found! I've got a ton of headphone amps gathering dust and am sure there will be an 8260 in one of them but I'm not stripping them all down in the hope that I find an 8260 Get yourself this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-PCS-SOIC8-SOP8-SO8-SMD-to-DIP8-Adapter-PCB-Convertor-Board-Pins/272897252327?epid=759128141&hash=item3f89f19be7:g:uHIAAOSwtfhYsuBU£1.99 shipped from the UK, that's what you need. One little tip when soldering SOIC chips...... attach them to the board with a TINY / VERY THIN strip of tape go in hard and fast with a HOT iron and flood solder all over the pins on one side and then go in hard and fast flooding solder all over the pins on the other side. Get some desolder wick and (again, with a VERY hot iron) mop up the excess solder blobs from each side of the SOIC chip...... that will leave you with a perfect finish..... finish off with a toothbrush dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean up the chip / adapter. It should look like this: Soldering each pin individually is a PITA.... a lot easier to flood the pins with solder and mop up with desolder wick It works 100% of the time but the secret is to use a HOT 480C iron and only spend a second on it. If you aren't too confident working with such small components send them to me and I'll do it for you FOC Martin. My eyesight may be failing but over the years you adapt and compensate Back in the day I could spot a sixpence in the fog (and that was when six pence was a LOT of money) these days I have to rely on other methods that don't involve eyesight Quite funny.... a few months ago a "teenager" dropped 50 pence on the floor whilst paying for something in the Co-Op..... he looked at it as if to say "loose change" and didn't even bother picking it up! I was straight in, like a hawk..... that's 10 shillings in old money! Back in the day that was a LOT of money and you certainly wouldn't leave it on the floor! Ten bob? That was a night out FFS! Anyhoo....... sorry I couldn't help you with the 8260 Martin and trust the above info will be of use. Mike.

Hi Mike
Thank for looking Mike. That's some stash of chips there, no wonder you needed a glass. Is that a sun, moon or earth discrete opa I see bty and an orange one too?
I'll take your advice about the soldering, very useful, should be no big deal but if I mess it up I'll shout. Must admit I would have done each pin individualy but I will do it your way as you have the experience and sounds a lot quicker too, thanks. I have some nice leaded silver Cardas Audio solder and some Warton Metals leaded silver stuff too, both flow very nicely, That Warton stuff is so old I must have bought it when I was but a callow youth big two or three kilo reel but I keep mislaying it, no lead subs back then lol
Just one thing that link for the adaptors you sent me, will the pins fit a normal DIP socket that is in the HA little box? Why I ask, I bought some adaptors the other day for a different job and the boards are ok but the pins are square and will not fit into a standard DIP socket. I now have several boards but no pins to fit the dip sockets lol
Thanks again All the best Martin

Yeh, it's a GD Audio "Earth" Martin..... I also had the Sun and Moon but god only knows where they are.... IIRC the "Moon" ended up in a Chiara amp I sold, not sure where the Sun is (certainly not in the sky, that's for sure!) Any probs fire it up to me and I'll do it for you, no worries. Go in hard with the lead RICH stuff Martin...... lead free is crap in every respect. I have hundreds of high quality gold plated "pins" but the boards that came with said pins were f**kin' useless! So plenty of high quality pins that will actually FIT into a DIP8 socket...... I'll send you a few IF I can find them Mike.

I think I had one of those from you and Freddypipsq.had the other a long while ago Advice duely noted sure it'll work ok, if you don't try you'll never know and I'll take up your generous offer. Would appreciate some pins if you can find them, I have been unable to find any on fleebay. Most of the traders can not guarantee thier pins will fit (so most likely will not), but I have located my adapt. boards now. Only need pins to fit dip sockets. Many thanks for the help all the best Martin

Hi Mike,
Daughter has had box for a little while now. Big smiles . I rewired all the inputs and the switch to amp connections with solid core silver wire. I had a bit left over from HiFi collective order so why not? Just waiting for some soic to dip winslows and different opas for her to try, if it's not her taste can go into into the JLH or something. However she is happy with one of the amps, the 2107 I think
Could I have your thoughts on the fostex 50s please. I have a feeling some new cans are on the cards for her. I use the BD 880 pros and various Sennnys, 580, 600, 414 in various incarnations so she has tried all these. Do you know if there's any diffrence between the 50 RP mk3 and the 59 RP mk3 N? If that goes ahead I'll be in the market for washed sheeps wool if you have any
Hope your coms are getting back up now All the best Martin
