Seems there is a need for this topic to have its own area since it obviously has been getting more attention than any other area of the forums so I figured it was time. NOW the real work begins-working through all the posts and threads to get some kind of rational flow of information and it being a daunting task thast I for one want no part of (other than the simple "create the board then pass the torch ) I have nominated alex as the one to do the dirty deed since it is mostly his baby and he IS an Aussie which means: 1-He is close to the source of all this nonsense ;D 2-AD/DC is also from Australia and if you are gonna do a "Dirty Deed" you may as well do it "DIRT CHEAP" (as in FREE since we mods do not draw a salary ) with the song on a loop in the background to remind you why you love me so much 3-He pretty much has taken point on the mods So have at it bro, sucks to be you Rickmonster and resident responsibility shirker out......

Rick The Silicon Chip Headphone Amp Tweaks thread already has most of the relevant information, from both RobertKD and myself, and will be added to as found worthwhile. The main thing that we need now,is for new general stuff to go in the original Jaycar thread, and the Silicon Chip Headphone Amp tweaks thread be kept for reference, with new additional construction information , and modifications posted there by interested members. I expect that Robert will also post added information as his own design evolves. Alex P.S. In any event, it's YOUR idea, not mine !

Its own "area"? jesus..... with over 37,000 views it deserves its own forum Rick Good to see you creating new zones Rick and doing the hard job of delegating to Alex (I've always found delegating most tiring and time consuming) I'm sure he will be happy to delegate to someone else ;D NOT me, by the way, even though I started the thread.... I'm way too busy delegating myself to find time to trawl through that monster thread. Keep up the good work chaps

The Rickmonster, a kit and a soldering iron = Rickakitasolderoonisaurus Rex..... a REAL monster I can tell you! Ricky, I've got a JLH ripple eater board plus all the parts required to populate it and it's yours if you PM me your details. I also have one ready made up which you could have instead but I'm sure you'd rather populate the board yourself.... up to you bro.....

watchit bubba ! Only my "wimmen" and my mother call me "Ricky".If you persist folks may start talkin' As for the rest, yeah, why not,if only for proof of concept and comparison.I mean hell dude it is all coming back anyway (once done another "Grot" giveaway contest ).Maybe even one of each for comparing so there is a benchmark which if you are going to "improve" on a thing you need something to compare against how else to know if you have accomplished anything ? That means first an "honest" build of the kit with the partsd as supplied.some over time listening to get to KNOW the amp then a one sted at a time/listen for a time evaluation of each mod step then make a decision on what goes and what stays So far when time allows my plans are to do a "amp on a board" type open build leaving the casing options up to whoever recieves the end product and other than maybe the final supply bypass and input coupling caps nothing exotic that defeating the purpose. As for any changes to the basic design I plan more of an optimization of the PSU (possibly foregoing any series regulation entirely using filtration to lower the ripple followed by a shunt reg to present a constant impedance to the opamp stage and current amp stage),input and output networks and possibly the biasing scheme. Once satisfied, and if I am this will be the hard part,I will send the amp off for either a round of evals or straight to a contest prize. Should be fun if i can find the time to do this in a window that is relevant to the current interest

Rick My suggestion would be to send it to Miguel for a comparison with his SC HA , and then to Mike as a prize. This would shorten the time frame, and help keep interest alive. Alex

Nick CJ (Dave ) has been tied up recently with end of year exams (lecturer),as well as his own studies. He should be back with us shortly. If you are in a hurry, are you able to etch one yourself from a PCB pattern ? Alex

Folks, i apologise for my impatience. normally i am very laid back and have the patience of a saint. At the moment i am 6 days, 15 hours and 5 minutes into giving up smoking. Not that i am counting time or anything, or that i am feeling a bit cranky 80% of the time i am awake. It was a habit i thoroughly enjoyed for 25 years and to say i am finding it hard is an understatement, but it will be a testament to my will power if i can crack the evil weed- cold turkey all the way, no patches, no pills, just lots of chewing gum -i just hope it doesn't lead to an overdeveloped lower jaw.
Thank for your reply Dave and sorry once again
