Just noticed we now have a speaker corner so wondering what you guys are using I have a pair of these www.iplacoustics.co.uk/s3tlm%20Ribb%20Magnesium.htm which are currently packed away, since the move they was a little big for the new room so I had to downsize , I now use Usher BE-718 on Partington Broadside stands

I've got a pair of Rogers LS3/5a. Since I had to relinquish my listening room for a while they're now sitting next to my monitor. This is kind of ok, since they were designed as near-field monitors, but they sound *a lot* better with space around them and a little room treatment (to eliminate early reflections).
Cheers Steffen.

I'm a Hi-Fi child of the late '80s, which explains my Mission 760i speakers. I've always wanted to go further, but wife, kids, 'cosmetic' room considerations would mean the money is wasted.
It also explains why headphone listening has become increasingly important to me, so I can listen to music to the level (sq/volume) I want.
Having said that, nothing beats feeling the music, coming from a loudspeaker!

Tannoy 637 profiles: In the mid 1980s I had both Tannoy Ardens and SRM12 Little Reds in my 8 track rehearsal studio - a taste for the dual concentrics is a taste not easily lost. I would love to move back up to the 15 inch duals but they are proving a difficult sell to the Wife - although if I could just get her to listen to a pair in situ as it were it would be different lol

I will post mine when I have taken the photo! It's basically a very old Avance Alpha 44 speaker system from Denmark. Initially, quite a terrible sounding speaker but had been moded halfway to high decency. Even my friend had commented the moded Avance sound is so much better than the past when he heard it many many years back.

my speakers are presently in storage with the rest of my system so I am down to "EAR" speakers rather than "LOUD" speakers but if they were here ? Modified Klipsch Heresys corner loaded on stands with a slight "basser upper" to compensate for the low end rolloff that if unassisted (electronic or sub) is around 50Hz in room.I also moved the tweeter "out of the box" (JBL Slot) and added a rear facing padded down piezo tweeter that kicks in at 5khz. This last part seems to add immensely to the sense of "space" when watching DVDs in surround by expanding the soundfield beyond the side walls while at the same time making the front spread less overall localized without losing the positional cues

oopsy ! I DO have a set of speakers in the house at my computer desk/workstation and those are Radio Shack Optimus Pro LX-4's. These have a very nice 4"Kevlar "mid" (hardly call it a woofer ) and a monopole "Lineaum" tweeter and that have the Black Dahlia mods www.blackdahlia.com/tipindex/Tip__3/tip__3.htmlThese puppies sing in the nearfield and have an actual walnut veneer cab-very rare for el chepo speakers these days (as is a kevlar woofer ) and to be honest blow the balls off of many other much more expensive speakers I have tried in this position though I AM tempted to give this a shot at some point : www.audioasylum.com/cgi/t.pl?f=DIYHiFi&m=6810

Nice Back in the late 1990s when I finally moved out of London for good I had a pair of early 1970s vintage Tannoy gold 12 inch "bookshelf" speakers with the gold tweed grills. Although the drivers themselves were functional, balanced and rattle free they had been stored in a cupboard with the rest of the junk - the enclosures were a bit bashed about - so I chucked them in the skip when I cleared out my flat. Ouch...

I've been using Opera 1.5 s for about 10 years They came in as part of a domestically/wife freindly system, but I do like them. Have considered replacing them, but I'm so out of touch with the industry now that I'm not sure what to look at! Back in my active days, maybe Jamo Concert 8 or B&W CDM1NT or Totem to be driven by Inca Tech Claymore.... Best 'speakers I've owned are Naim SBL s, actively driven by old Exposure XI, IX, 2 X IVDR, sadly long gone as they were a bit much for a newly-wed couple's first home ,with all the other gear.

Had a pair of Spica TC-50's "back in the day" that were one of only two systems having a soft dome tweeter i ever could stand (the Dahlquist DQ-10's I wish i still had were the other) but MAN ! No matter how good they sounded, and they sounded damn nice if fed properly, they were sooooo butt ugly and hard to integrate in a room cosmetically I had to let them go. Looking back now it comes to me that almost every speaker I have ever liked or owned mostly consisted of very "non traditional" shapes and/or construction/technology and this all the way back to everything after the fist "mid fi" speakers I ever bought, and that i was pretty much ripped off on the salesperson skewing the listening session to make the sale (lesson learned young ) so either the cabinet was weird shaped like the Spica, was a panel shape like the DQ-10's,was a hybrid like my Janzens and very early EMIT based Infinity's or was a TL or horn loaded cab with nary an acoustic suspension or bass reflex "traditional box" plus dome in the bunch. I don't remember setting out a PLAN for this to happen but looking back I must have because to be honest, the only dome tweets I ever really cared for were either assisted or were mini-horn loaded (D-Horns)

For the last 20 years or so I have been using a pair of DCM QED (TL speakers, and a relative to above) Many times I have been tempted to replace them, however anything that I can afford does not sound as good as them. -Alex

"For the last 20 years or so I have been using a pair of DCM Time Windows 1A" When i auditioned the Dahlquists it was down to either the Time windows or the DQ-10 with the DQ-10 winning out BUT in the same room were a pair of Quad ESL-63's and they blew both out of the water

From memory the Time windows were $800 for the pair and the Dahlquists $1,200 with the Quads coming in around $3K Ibeleive but remeber dude, this is in 1970's dollars (1976 or '77 if I recall right) which if adjusted to modern loot would probably mean the Quads were closer to $10K "actual" and the others in the $2K-$3K area. Gas was like $0.50/Gal,a new car could be had for under three K (a new Vette was only $5K ) and you could buy a serious home for under $30K so when compared to that and the salaries of the day not exactly cheap for any of the three

More like 200WPC Min ! 100 watts was way underpowered and even the Hafler DH-500 that i used then was underpowered the Hafler being about the least powerful sounding high power amp of the day but it WAS affordable (especially in kit form ) so is what i went with. I also at that time went through a boatload of "PRO" amps borrowed from buds in the music trade but they ALL,and I do men ALL had problems with the DQ-10s because for whatever reason the speakers would cause problems with the protection circuits professional amps must have to prevent shut down during a performance or recording session (time IS money) so with all the clicking and popping going on not an option. The best I ever heard on the Dahlquists ? Toss up between the original Ampzilla (wanted one but was beyong my means at the time) and the Bryston 200WPC.For the first time these puppies not only sounded good but had actual POWER and could be scary real sounding at times, especially when the DQ-1W/DQLP1 subwoofer/crossover combo was added (though the Janus W1 sub was a better match, again beyond my means at the time) the Time windows were very tempting at the time being cheaper up front and being cheaper in the long run to operate since they were a much easier load to drive and in fact were being driven by a 70WPC "Amber Series 70" at the listening session. From memory the DCMs were very smooth and cast an image outside of the speaker plane, very civilised sounding, but the Dahlquists expanded the entire room in both the side to side and front to back plane plus the openess had to be heard because describing it does no justice to the actual. Weaknesses ? A bitch to place being an awkward dimension AND reflecting rearwards as well as to the front, powering as mentioned was a real bitch to get right and they NEEDED a subwoofer for anything large scale but man, those puppies sure did sing and I STILL miss them to this day

Using a pair of Audio Physic Yaras (Classic not evolution), spent 2 or three years looking with a speaker I could live with after years using a friends Linn Nexus that I had been looking after.
The Yaras at the time had best compromise for detail, warmth and bass.
At the time I was a "dirty it contracting scum" these days being a married full time employee I don't think I could afford the next step up as per SandyK
Listened to Tannoy Westminsters once and if I ever win th lottery.....

I`m using Ruark Templars in my main system which work well in my small living room.
I also have a pair of modified original Wharfedale Denton`s in a second system, one tweeter was knackered when I bought them from a car boot sale so I fitted a pair from some late 80`s early 90`s castle speakers. I really like these but want to hear what they would sound like with all original drivers. Allegedly the BBC used a modified version before the introduction of the LS3/5a. Got an eye on a pair on ebay at the moment.
Both pairs of speakers are infinite baffle type.
My stands for the Denton`s are a variation on the TNT Stubby but with a triangular base like Kudos. I could definetely do with some lead shot, there is not really enough weight to the stands with dry sand
