I am lookin for some advise on cleaning my HD580 headphones. The earpads and padded headband are in need of a good wash. My concern is that the foam will be damaged if I use a detergent. A quick web search has new replacements in the region of £50!
Any help will be gratefully received.
Thanks

I am lookin for some advise on cleaning my HD580 headphones. The earpads and padded headband are in need of a good wash. My concern is that the foam will be damaged if I use a detergent. A quick web search has new replacements in the region of £50! Any help will be gratefully received. Thanks I have been cleaning my HD-600 pads for 5 years now and they are as good as new, don't worry about damaging them... if anything, regular washing will preserve the foam. Here's how to go about it: 1: Remove the pads 2: Get a bowl of lukewarm water and soak the pads in it 3: Get some shampoo (I use coconut shampoo) and squirt a small drop onto the pads. 4: work the shampoo in with your fingers until it has penetrated into the foam. 5: when you've given the pads a good clean rinse them with plenty of cold water... give them a good squidge to make sure all the suds are rinsed out. 6: squeeze the pads between a towel to get most of the moisture out. 7: loosely tie a piece of string around the pads and then hang them out in the fresh air to dry. You'll notice the pads now have a lot more "life" in them and will look and feel like brand new..... I wash my pads every couple of months and, as I say, they are still going strong after 5 years. If you want to get rid of hairs and debris on the pads you can occasionally use some sellotape or one of these to remove it: I wouldn't use these too often, just once and a while when you want to plush them up a bit. I hope this helps and your pads will soon look like this again: My pads after a wash and dry.

I have acted more considerably)) If it is necessary to replace рads for your HD650 for the hygienic reasons, do not hurry up to buy new. Very strong material allows to wash it repeatedly. To wash warm (not hot) with water, soft soap and a soft brush. Carefully to wash out flowing water. Strongly to shake water from pads. Fingers to form. To put on drying. At assembly to not press a lattice. To compress on all circle, but clicks will be only in several places. To check up that pads completely have risen in a groove. I recommend - it is checked up repeatedly Has replaced foam rubber with an audio-fabric ( www.ts-audio.biz/tsshop2/WGS/5759/PRD/IT1347335/Intertechnik_Akustikstoff_SONOTEX-RT.htm )

Very concise instructions Astra.... cheers, a lot of people will find those pics very handy. You're right the Sennheiser pads are pretty much bullet proof and will withstand many many washes.... if you tie a bit of string round them and hang them outside in the fresh air they dry faster.

Excellent detail astra. One other thing to add. By using a flat head screwdrive the clip on the inside of the headband pops straight off with a bit of leverage, this will allow the headband to slide out. Using the same cleaning methods mentioned for the pads on the headband the same superb results will be had. £50 well saved.

Can some one tell me how to remove the pads I have looked for a way to get them off to clean but I can't see how it should be done without the possibility of damaging the 'phones. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Rossman,
With HD6xx the pads simply pull out and push to clip back in, just like Astra's first photo up-thread, gently does it.

I've been looking for a new set of HD650 pads for ages, but very expensive. F**k that, I'll go wash them instead.
EDIT: Job done.
