Hi,
What beers are you guys drinking at home? Any recommendations? I love real ale but lately have developed a strong liking for those supreme Czech lagers, Budvar, Pilsner Urquell & one that sounds like Strapon or something. Price pays a big part though & has to be taken into consideration, probably the reason why Stella Artois is so popular. It's called 'wife beater' in this neck of the woods, can't think why? Maybe because men can beat their spouses on consumption. Anyways, any brews I should know about?

Moorlands "old speckled Hen" beautiful stuff it has a lovely nutty taste, I'm also partial to a few pints of St Feuillien Trippel Belgian Abbey Ale (8.5%) wonderfully yeasty flavour with a spicy nose.... lovely stuff ;/t

Hi Mike,
I believe the 'old speckled hen' was an old MG sports car with a top class racing pedigree & the beer was thus named in its honour. I think Moorlands are based in Oxfordshire in the vicinity of the old MG sports car factory/ garage.
My word, the Belgian Abbey Ale is pretty strong! Up there with Carlsberg Special Brew lol. I bet you can't drink too much of that without consequences creeping in.

Here's another question for you, are you drinking as much as when you were younger? Say, when you were twenty years old? I've only recently just turned nineteen so don't qualify as yet. Incidently, my father used to say, never trust a man who doesn't like a drink but I guess he was biased being an alcoholic.

As above plus: - Caledonian Deuchars IPA Caledonian Edinburgh Strong Ale - I haven't seen this for a while, so it might not be current, but it's really good and pretty strong! Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted - This is my current fave, and also Beer Of The Year 2003 at the CAMRA London beer fest. I can't remember the brewery, but Duvel is a tasty V. strong Belgian beer. about 9.0% I like it.
Oh Crap!!! I have just found out that the Paisley Beer Festival is on 13-16th April. I'm kind of triple-booked that weekend (Porcupine Tree gig on Fri). I missed the last, and really wanted to get there this year.
