One thing about the W-1000 Nigel..... they can take ONE HELL of a battering and never seem to bottom out... as leporello says, they would render you deaf before they packed in.

9 O'clock ... you are joking right ... I spend my time with the HD650s at between 12 and 2 - the grados generally between 11-12!

With my Solo I generally listen between 10 and 11 on a Solo or short burstbetween 3 and 4 if I really like the beat (listening between 3 and 4 only happens on rare occasions) I don't listen to the Grado a lot so can't comment on them.

I wonder how many db's that would equate to? There must be a way of working it out knowing the sensitivity of the 'phones & the amps milliwatt power.

How difficult is it to fit the W 5000 leather ear pads ? The existing pads on the W 1000s are a very tight fit,are they glued on ?

Seriously? 8.30 for me with the Solo on Senn 650. 11 'o clock is LOUD. 3 'o clock is outrageous!! Ian

I use AT W1000 at about 10:00 - 11:00 depending on level of antifreeze and Grado GS1000 at mid-day position or more - they just seem to need more to get them going. With their low impedance presumably they are a difficult load to drive.
What I can't figure out at all is how the G Solo seems to have power in reserve, when it uses a wall wart for a power supply.... Having said that, I'd be very interested to substitute a PSU with massive headroom, just to see what happens then with the sound signature.

Bozzy, I also found the GS1000s needed to be cranked up more to get to a decent level of sound out of them, I wondered if this was due to the larger air chamber in them. Typically with the Grados I find I like to listen with the pot at 11-1 o' clock depending on the ferocity of the music..... with the HD600 it's more like 10-11.

Have had these a year and a half now and can honestly say they crap on the rest of my 'phones from a great height. The detail and minutiae these guys let through is absolutely incredible.... time after time they more than justify their purchase price and never cease to amaze me with their innate ability to reproduce MUSIC in a most natural, exciting way.....
My favourite 'phones bar none.

When I finish paying off my loan I'll get me a pair.......... May be a good idea to wait until the pound regains some strength mate. I got mine from pricejapan for around £200 and now they are £355 direct from PriceJapan.... almost DOUBLE!

Will,
Think about it. It's only after a period of time you realise what's important to you. There is no doubting in my mind his real favourite 'phones are the Sennheiser HD600. I will always associate Pink Floyd with these headphones.

Ahh, right ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I wondered why the w-1000 went from best to boot-out in a week! I had a wonderful collection of vintage computers, until earlier this year. Sinclair QL, ZX80, Oric 1 and Atmos, Atari 800, Jupiter Ace, BBC A & B, Dragon 32 & 64, Tatung Einstein, the list goes on. Then I went mad, ebayed or sold to other collectors, and now this years 3 week family holiday to the in-laws spanish villa is paid for complete (even putting the dog in the kennels!)

Yeh, I figured that if I culled the majority of my amps I'd make enough for a state of the art electric bike.... I really DO have too many amps though (36 of them) and the place is starting to resemble a museum.... Hell, I just bought "another" one yesterday, total madness ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) Oh well...... some people collect stamps, I collect amps.... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!
