Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - The Plan 1978. I used to have a copy of this on vinyl, when I saw it on CD for a fiver with a whole bunch of extra tracks, I snapped it up.

WOW!
What a flashback. Gary Numan and Tubeway Army... I get a monster wave rushing in from the back of my brain with all that 'new wave' stuff... Have to figure out what song/melody is what...
My last purchase was ATTWENGER's 'dog' (I prefer the 'sun' CD). You don't have to know that one. It is a bit of DADA-Austrian-Techno-Traditional mix. Well - as I said - you don't have to...
before that I bought a couple of New Order stuff. Couldn't find my Maxi Single of 'The Beach' anymore...

LOL, I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean. I'm kind of getting images of Kraftwerk in lederhosen, which I guess would cover the DADA aspect.

Suzanne Vega - 9 Objects of Desire - which actually turned out to be an object of derision - didn't float my boat! I'd surfed a wave of nostalia (College and listening to Suzanne Vega while heavily herbally sedated) - I guess "nostalgia isn't what it used to be" Prior to that I've been hugely impressed by the Guillemots - Through the Wondowpane, Camille - le Fille, but found myslef mostly listening to Axion of Choice - Niya Yesh If anyone wants a wonderfully acoustic ambient CD with nuance of world music, persian, but very listenable, I can recommend Niya Yesh highly. Think Gladiator movie sound track meets Black Hawk Down sound track. makeashorterlink.com/?P26651F9D

Hmmm, no. Not Kraftwerk. They started out with accordion and drums. Very fast stuff. Then they added electronics and became a little bit slower. The DADA is mostly in the lyrics. They play with words - or better their pronounciation - like no other. The new album is called 'dog'. Well, remember, their lyrics are not english. So dog is the way you say 'Tag' in Bavaria and Austria which means 'day'. 'sun' (pronounced soon)=Austrian for sonne=sun in english. And it goes on and on. Here's a amazon link to my favourite one of theirs: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00005Y2ZW/302-2673346-9417622?v=glance&n=290380klick onto 'Reinhoeren' at Muamen, Sun & Mei Bua Their website: attwenger.at/index.html And it goes on and on... I was a fanatic when the first two records came out. Haven't bought anything after switching to CDs. Comes to: haven't heard anything for years. Still have some melodies in my head though. Some months ago I saw the ArteTV (I guess) special when the guy with the mustache from Yello picked up Brian Ferry with a Maybach in Zurich (?) and they went from shop to shop and into a restaurant and talked about this and that. Great Stuff!!! BAd that I didn't recorded it to my harddrive. Talking about recording. Anyone out there with rare Zappa live stuff? Be it audio or video ;D

Having had a quick listen to the sample tracks at Amazon.co.uk I just bought a copy of Axion of Choice - Niya Yesh that Sol recommended. I actually have quite a few "world music" recordings and I particularly like music with Indian or Middle Eastern influences.

Good move ... beautifully played, wonderfully sung (I really like those quarter tone notes Asian influence has in music. Also very well produced without losing that natural, "organic" feel - is organic the right word I wonder? Isn't describing music/sound with words difficult! Much easier to say .. hey - listen to this! hence the Amazon link.

Interesting.might have to check some of that out even though the wife will likely kick my ass ! She HATES anything instrumental even if it is Jeff Beck Guitar (Mahavishnu ? Nope ! Fusion Jazz ? Fergetaboutit ! Traditional rythms ? HAH ! No Shot Mister !) so you know what gets played on headphones and what gets access to the big rig on Mount Rick A.K.A. "Susan's Lair" ,unless i am alone of course then all hell breaks loose, maybe even a lease or two

A man after my own heart ... ... I've worked from home today, my roksan integrated and power combo is probably close to glowing as it's been pumping out all day. Helps concentartion dontachaknow BTW I've got about 2 hours left before my wife arrives home .... I'm just about to sit down after closing the laptop and the pipe to work - I think Guilemots, Young Knives, and perhaps some loud rock. Actually ... some very loud 70's rock is called for! [Fx: wanders off to make the walls vibrate and the neighbours wince] Enagage warp factor 10 Mr. Sulu

does wonders for "attitude" too HELL YES IT IS !!!! GOTTA GET THAT DAMN BLOOD PUMPING AND THE HEART RATE UP ! plenty of time later once the wife is home to act like you are an actual civilised new millenium man ! you know the worst thing ? You lose track of time, music is RIPPIN' LOUD and you are bouncing around the house like a lunatic and your realise the wife is standing right behind you and you never heard her come in because the music is so loud all you can do at that point is turn down the jams and say "hey babe.how was your day" .

Gawd damn it you are a psychic. So she arrives back about an hour later than anticipated, meanwhile Jack Daniels an I have completely lost track of time in a deluge of 70's rock.
I think she walked in while Rush - 2112 was on 9.5 outta 10 - bless me was she pissed - apparantly she'd phoned times to let me know she would be late! "Now I know why you didn't snawer the phone!"

At lunchtime I bought the Ray Lamontagne "Till The Sun Turns Black" follow up to "Trouble" … absolutely blown away by this guys voice. I already had "Trouble" (on friends recommendation) and spotted this follow up in Virgin.
3rd run thorugh already and I'm very very impressed - Emotion in spades... fantastic quality from the production - real sunday afternoon chill out and sit back! Actually it's very good sitting at work - laptop to Shure E5C only at the moment - In the highly recommeded pile that requires more critcal listening at home later.

One other recommendation in the Folk/Acoustic area ... Damien rice - 'O' This has been around for a few years apparenlty - though I've never come across him. If there's one CD you buy this year if only for tracks 3 and 4 then do it. The bass on track 3 is wonderfully textured, there's lots to find in the music infact, and his voice has that lovely folky naivety mixed with twenty-someting angst. Also there's a couple of real audiophile potential reference tracks on this albumn e.g. there's some lovely imaging on "Cheers Darlin'" with fabulous glass tinkling being used to provide some accompliment, some very very quiet background voices to get you truely listening .. and here's another singer with some genuine emotion coming out of the recording! makeashorterlink.com/?L186262CD for some samples Wow .. I can't remember the last time I bought 3 CDs in a week that were all so damn good!

My latest additions: Coles Corner and Lowedges by Richard HawleyDifficult to categorise, there are undertones of country and 50's Americana with dreamy Hawian lap steel guitar sounds, even though the guy is actually from Sheffield. The songs are fairly melancholy, similar in mood perhaps to some of the Tindersticks stuff, although there are no dead cats and crippled sisters here.

That reminds me .. does anyone know the artist that did a hawaian guitar version of two songs ("over a rainbow" and some other) that is very 2/2 beat but merges the two songs beautifully. Really would like to try and search that out.
