www.buddyguys.com/AboutBuddyGuy/index.htmlwas just kicking back with my "Stone Crazy" CD www.buddyguys.com/AboutBuddyGuy/stone_crazy.htmland while listening remebering al, the times i was lucky enough to catch Buddy Guy live.I don't see anything in my area this summer and that really bites but better to say "i have" than to worry about things i have zero control over folks, this guy can flat out tear it up with a guitar and if you never heard his work you need to correct that situation soon if you have any love for blues guitar virtuosity. The man can flat out pick it .

Great stuff indeed is he still playing these days? The last time I saw anybody "similar" was BB King many years ago and man he (and his group) were just with the groove, so economical with the guitar but boy did he deliver the goods.

A mix of Cajun and Creole with a bit of good old southern fried tossed into the mix Man,they tell you fried food is bad then you find out the folks in the regions that live on a steady diet of fried foods live to be over 100 and you have to wonder who is lying and why ! I got turned onto cajun food when I spent time at Ft.Polk (Infantry School) and have been hooked since though trying to find anything close locally is a total bust. Bring on the Cyanne pepper and blackened fish dammit ! Or better yet,a mess of deep fried Missisippi River channel catfish ! FKN YUM !(runs to the freezer, nothing satisfies, considers suicide ) www.gumbopages.com/food/cajun-craze.htmlwww.gumbopages.com/recipe-page.htmlwww.experienceneworleans.com/recipes.htmlMan,i pray they bring back New Orleans AS IT WAS and that means the original folks that lived there not a bunch of fkn yuppies who have enough loot to buy up all the property then change the very thing they liked (happens a lot) because there will be so much american culture lost that it is a crime against humanity to allow it to pass. The only TRUE american music and what was at the roots of all Rock/C&W to follow was blues and jazz which have as their place of origin right there or in the delta and if that unique breeding ground for food and music style is allowed to pass away someone needs to be pistol whipped then dragged through the streets behind a pickup truck full of crawdads .

damn that looks yummy Tried mightily but could not find "The Catfish Inn" in Leesville Louisiana online where I at one time spent my weekends gorging myself on golden brown chunks of fried channel cat but i DID find a reference to the lake where I sank a damn rental boat playing chicken www.toledo-bend.com/srala/area/lake.htmla nifty little mini map of my former stomping grounds where i would eat,get lit ,get some opposite sex companionship, head back to base (our nickname for the town was "diseaseville" due to the high hooker population ;D ) a little bit about Ft.Polk where i trained in my MOS Fort Polk
Ft. Polk is the nation's fifth largest military installation and is the cornerstone of this west central part of Louisiana. It began as Camp Polk in the early 1940's, but has evolved into one of the U.S. Army's most modern facilities. It now serves as the home of the Army's Joint Readiness Training Center.
This center provides training for the Army's light infantry units and special operation units from other branches of the American Armed Forces. The presence of such a diverse and cosmopolitan population of soldiers, retired military and their families creates a significant social and economic impact on the neighboring communities.
The two largest towns near Ft. Polk are Leesville and DeRidder. Leesville, with a population of 7,600, is the parish seat of Vernon Parish and is located 10 miles from Ft. Polk. Leesville is home to a large community of retired military personnel and provides a variety of goods and services for the region.
The town of DeRidder in Beauregard Parish is 15 miles from Ft. Polk. DeRidder, whose population is more that 9,600, has also been favorably impacted by the military presence and boasts a significant group of military retirees. Individuals and families who have relocated to Leesville and DeRidder chose the area because of the mild climate, the variety of the four seasons, and the relaxed lifestyles of living in a small community.
Ft. Polk operates numerous recreational facilities, a commissary and Post Exchange. The Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital is a 165-bed hospital with a full complement of services. Primary care is provided by the Family Practice Clinic. An elementary school for grades K to 4 is located on the base. Warrior Hills, an 18-hole golf course, is open to the public.funny,I don't remember any golf courses ;D also funny how a thread on Buddy Guy in the MUSIC section is more about food and me sinking boats (among other things ) than any songs And yes,i am still hungry for some REAL food dammit !

Just caught this response (lost in all thye hunger babble ) Yeah, still very active just not in my area this year as far as I can tell or I would be there in a flash ! Funny you mention BB King 'cause it was at a BB King Headlined blues tour that I had my first exposure to BG and I was so impressed i went out and purchsed his music on CD the next day. I can't remember ALL the bands but from memory it was DR.John,The Fabulous thunderbirds,Buddy Guy and BB king all on the same stage at my favorite outdoor venue (Ives Concert Park) which is 15 minutes away This was an annual event for years here with the lineup changing from year to year with the only constants being Buddy guy and BB king except one year BB could not make it so johnny lang filled in ! Anyone who has never heard blues guitar played by the masters LIVE has not heard blues guitar is my opinion. The fact that you caught BB mikester is cool. The man sure has a way of playing understated music that has a way of smacking you right in the guts live

All I know about that neighbourhood is what I learnt from the film "Deliverance" with Burt Reynolds. People eating whole pigs on spits, following tourists along a river, banjo duels and reaming tourists up the "ass". I'm sure it's a lot nicer over there than that film made out though and if it's got the Rick seal of approval then it can't be all bad. How were you sinking boats man? I used to love flipping the rowing boats in the pond at Perth, we would row over to another boat and then flip it over so the boat capsized and the people got a good soaking Many years ago but great fun, the people in the "paddlers" were the easiest to capsize as they didn't have any "oars" to fend the attack off with, we used to row up to these boats and flip them "or" jump onto them and rock them till they flipped.... woohoooo great fun

Actually no Pretty much as you described it last I knew Great food, great parties, fool with the wrong person and you are "anyone see Mike ?" Army has a section on Toledo Bend (one of the largest man made reseviors in the states) reserved for military personel and their families and a bunch of us camped out there to do some "fishing" which turned out to be a weekend of drinking instead, fishing gear never left the tent Anyway, all we had to do at the time to rent a speedboat was to show a valid active duty I.D. card and next thing you know we are whipping around the lake like loonies two to a boat and for some reason, and this was not planned, every time one of us crossed paths with another of our group we played "chicken" which is a game where you go full balls straight at the other boat until somone hopefully chickens out ! Cool game and proves who has enough balls to follow through with only one problem-someone has to chicken out and no one did so the boats collided head on and mine sank I made up some goofy story about being an idiot from connecticut and how i never drove a boat before and hence knew nothing of what "bouys" were for so had hit some rocks and the boat sank. The guy gives me a second boat for the same low price (I seem to remember $10 for the whole day) saying insurance would cover the first at which time I went on a "mission" to find the prick that sank my boat. When I found his non chicken ass I ""T-boned" his boat at full speed which caused three things 1-His boat capsized and required a tow later 2-I flew out of my boat and sailed like a freakin' crash test dummy 3-I damaged my "new" boat and it was taking on water so I gave the idiot who's boat I wrecked a ride back to the docks The guy was actually a freind of mine and we were fkn hammered so the guy at the boat rental joint probably heard us laughing all the way from the other side of the lake and when we tried to explain one more boat missing and mine takng on water soon to be a submarine trhe POS would not allow any more boats to go out from our little "group" (seems a few more came up lame or missing ) but after beging the prick he finally relented and gave us fking ROW BOATS !!!!!!!! Well that shit got lost too dammit ! I took that bitch way (the joint is huge) out but not being much of a "row the boat dude" type of guy did not consider that the cool tail wind making my life so easy on the way out would become a headwind making my life totally miserable on the way back. So here I was drunk as fk,now 100% bored with this manual labor boat rowing crap and wanting no more than to get back to camp so i can kick back for what is left of the weekend but instead it is row ten feet forward, blown 20 feet back by the wind which after about an hour I just FLIPPED ! Totally ripping pissed I was getting tired and had made zero foward progress in the direction i need to go so i beached the piece of shit boat, threw the fkn oars as far as I could into the water and walked all the way back to camp which gave me plenty of time to come up with an excuse for losing another boat (I ended up telling the truth that I got caught in the wind,he was an asshole for not warning me and if he said one fking word about me walking back I would crack him in the head with a fkn rock ! ) I proceeded to take all kinds of shit from my buds on not ony losing three boats but being the only guy to WALK around fkn Toledo Bend, one of the damn largest man made bodies of watewr on the fkn planet and to make matters worse I sobered up during the walk and was in no fkn mood so we went at it a bit until i was able to re-establish my former drunken stupor and see the humor in it all Some shit you just never forget and I will remember my "Great Toledo Bend Boating Adventure" 'til the day I die.BURNED into my memory banks forever along with the crap I had to take back on base when that boat renting asshole reported me to my C.O. because he wanted someone to pay for two boats which at the pay grade of PFC at the time was not happening and besides,I was "protected" territory because for some reason the chain of command liked my style (nuts ) and cut me way more slack than I deserved on soooooo much shit I should write a book. Not that anyone would beleive it
