wonder if they're real... there's quite a problem with fake Alps pots
shipping costs nearly as much as the pot i want haha, 10 pounds for the RK27 blue velvet, 9.50 pounds to send it =\
great selection though!

All well and good, but as much use as a chocolate teapot when you want a 10K. Farnell wanted £17.50 + VAT + postage for a 10K RK27, RS want £13.59 + VAT + Postage, so at £15.50 inc. VAT and delivery, Ebay was cheaper by a fair margin.

Farnell and RS are robbing buzzards.

RS really surprised me yesterday. Far better than average prices for BC550C and 2SA970 (Blue) transistors, with free delivery for Web orders. Ordered yesterday, BC550C (ON Semiconductor) arrived this morning.AU$35.75 for 250. (not just for me) Can't complain about that ! SandyK

Lucky you Sandy I have never once bought anything from RS and thought it was reasonably priced. Compared to the likes of JPR or Rapid they can sometimes be as much as 5 times the price for certain items. 250? that's an awful lot of BC550C

There was a big price break for 250 They came in 5 sealed bags of 50, which will be split among listening group members. Currently, we are all doing inventory on who has what with decent amplifier devices. Translate AU$35 into Pound sterling, throw in free next day delivery, and I think you would have to agree that's quite good value . (This time, anyway.) SandyK

I guess this German sites stock are genuine, but he only has them with PCB pins not solder lugs, some other ebay sellers seem to have some with solder lugs but a lot of them are HK or China based and I seem to recall something about cheap knockoffs. One US seller claims that ALPS told him they would not supply with solder lugs when he ordered his shorter shaft version. Leaves me wondering what the real situation is with these others with lugs - whether they are genuine older stock/production, whether they are cheap rubbish or whether the US seller was misinformed or is being misleading. Is all very confusion, anybody have any info ?

I bought some fakes from Rapid a couple of years ago (As did David White) the things looked the same as the RK27 but had "Soundwell" written on the label. I phoned Rapid and told them they'd been handed a bunch of fakes, told me to keep them and they'd send me the genuine items when they got new stock in. The soundwells weren't too bad but only had 3 wipers compared to the ALPS 8 wipers.... identical on the surface but different under the hood I bloody well detest these cheap fakes, the people making them should be shot cause one of these days some of this shit is going to find it's way into life critical applications and fail big time....

I'll have a good look at it when it turns up.
I have an Alps 50K RK27 in the cupboard that I bought from Rapid recently, which should be genuine, so I have something to compare it to.

I just picked up one of these for $AUD17 - looks pretty much as it should - will I kill it if I take the back off and look inside ?

Fanboi Be very careful when you put it back together. There is a screening plate inside, which may not always be fully in electrical contact with the pot's body. I actually soldered a fine wire from the shield plate on one Alps pot to it's frame for this reason

Thanks Sandy, it looks exactly as the pics on the German site, has pins not lugs, so it is probably kosher. Got it on ebay from mcchanson if dc is interested. - a good bit cheaper than 20 GBP.
