Groundbreaking research from the Peoples Front of Mysteron
:)After numerous trials of components for shear musicality, the following components were identified as definitely sounding horrible in the applications they were tried in: -
Farnell Multicomp MF25 RoHS compliant Elna Tonerex "Audio" Electrolytic capacitors Texas Instruments version of NE5534/NE5532 P and AP types
Do you have experience of components that didn't come up to scratch? If so, please share your experiences here.

Texas Instruments lead free buf 634 in TO-220 package, they were impossible to solder into position...... absolute bastards!
Rapid nylon nuts and bolts, the threads strip "way" too easily.... anything more than fingertight and they strip.
Those cheap dil sockets (not the turned pin types) absolute shite on a stick!
Lead free solder.. horrible stuff!
Will add more when I can think of them.

How about most Jamicon electrolytics? I almost bought some of those Rapid nylon jobbies to fix my heatsinks into position. Decided they were a bit pricey, and I'm glad I didn't now. I recently used up a "tube" of MultiCore solder which claimed to be lead-free. It worked beautifully, and produced nice shiny joints, which lead-free solder is not supposed to. It was quite old, so maybe it was just a low-lead mix or something. My current Antex lead-free solder produces dull joints with black muck all over them. Much more reassuring.

How about most Jamicon electrolytics? Nothing wrong with Jamicons as long as they're NOT in top notch amps! Perfectly good general purpose caps but, for audio use, there are much better ones to use I almost bought some of those Rapid nylon jobbies to fix my heatsinks into position. Decided they were a bit pricey, and I'm glad I didn't now. [/quote] Good move, they're absolute shite with heatsinks (well, with anything!) any more than finger tight and the bloody things strip their threads. Try the Rapid standard 60/40 stuff.... very good, very clean and very shiny

kinda like saying there is nothing wrong with dog shit as long as you don't step in it. both true but either experience would suck ;D kidding of course. Jamecon is no worse than any other capacitor used in commercial audio gear to meet a price point and to be honest better than some which are total no name crapola. Worse are the "clone caps" that are the absolute worst garbage but with a sleeve over the aluminum saying they are nichicons or elna or BG when the truth is not even close.Buy from a known honest vendor rather than try to shave a buck or you have a real shot at being ripped off
