Toshiba has put out an end of life notice for the 2SC5171 & 2SA1930 driver transistors. These are the output pair for the AKHA headphone amplifier. It is also used in the JLH Ripple Eater. You can get the real Toshibas at UT Source. They are located in the far east but have proven to be reliable & provide real/not fake parts.
I have located replacements for them They are made by Sanken; the numbers are 2SA1895A & 2SC4883A, just ordered a number of these for use in JLH Ripple Eater. There is one caveat: the crossover frequency for the original Toshiba pair is 200mhz, this is part of the secret to the AKHA's clean performance is the transition speed of the output transistors.
The Sanken parts have transition frequencies of 120mghz & 60mghz. I will be testing them in the amplifier module when my parts arrive & will post the results here. The other consideration is: these parts have been around quite a few years & may be near their end of life; though no mention of this has been made.

Bill,
I've got a load of "ripple eater" stuff kicking about (I bought it in the group buys) but am never going to use it...... I'll look it out and if you know anybody that needs any of it they can have it free of charge (postage and packing charges only).
I'll have a look tomorrow and see exactly what I have.
Hope all is good with you.
Best regards,
Mike.
PS: Have you heard from Alex? When he left the forum he pretty much went off the radar. I hope he's doing fine and really do miss him so if you are still in contact with him please give him by best regards.

Hi Mike,
Thanks I already have the dual transistors, the AKHA, and the shunt reg but could do with 2 posative and 2 negative ripple eaters if you still have them. The Millet amp looks interesting but after a quick look at the home page it seems a bit of a job to get the valves and to sort out the bias, so maybe I'll not bother with that. Just stay with the V2
All the Best Martin

Hi Martin: Do not fall for the Flea Bay pair of 1930 & 5171 for $24.00 USD; it is a rip off! UT Source has them for $1.50 ea. in small quantities.
