Thanks PinkFloyd for the laser pickup replacement link on ebay. The thing is that I don't want to replace the current duplicate laser with another duplicate laser. Are there any origianal replacements for this. Can a CD Rom drive be used for complete pickup change ??

Missed the recent posts on here Well spoted with the lasers Mike! I still use the CD33 in the bedroom system, the lasers started being little intermittent so will replace it soon For those wanting to mod these units first have a read through the thread, start off with the easy stuff. The diodes, caps and op-amp replacements are a good start, you can even bypass the op-amp but it requires a little more work Theres a fair bit of noise floating about in these cdp's, the digital signal lines are carried around the insides with wire, its worth replacing as much as you can with shielded cable Thanks Leo for your reply. I have bought this CD player after reading all your posts on this thread. PinkFloyd's comparison with Marantz made my decision even more 'correct' I just love the Marantz but cannot afford it right now. My plan is to change the opamps, diodes and vacuum tubes in the first phase. Then I might change the capacitors and other parts after taking your advice. Cheers!

I understand that Op-Amp can be bypassed . So if it can by bypassed, then would it still require a change? I have pics taken for your reference....I am a complete novice with respect to electronics but i can hold a solder ! Cheers!

Have you given the caps adequate time to burn in? Don't expect IMMEDIATE improvements, they will require a good few hundred hours before the CDP comes on song..... Leo is your man with this unit, hopefully he will chip in with more ideas. All the best, Mike.

if you want to try bypassing the op-amp, theres a pair of electrolytics going to the input of the op-amp from the dac chip, you can also bypass those, I can't remember the board number but can be found using your meter. (maybe the pair bottom left of pic Be worth trying a small value film cap on each of those links to ground to act as a filter

Thanks for the replies guys!!
Leo and me have exchanged quite a few PMs and i am really thankful to him.
Regarding the burn-in time, I have switched on the CDP without any CD in it 24/7 ....would this suffice ?? or should a CD be spun in it ?? Any comments regarding the AmpOhm PIO caps ??

I have bypassed the opamp with wires. I pulled out the resistors and coupling caps then bypassed them... The SQ has improved considerably when i listed to vocalist/classical music. Now would there be any problem if i never install any Opamp. The clarity has rocked me and i had a helluva session with classical music (vocal). Then I inserted a Coldplay CD and I did not see much change....what could be reason. I listed to rock music more than anything else. I would like to continue the same setup but with a TCXO change...thatz it. I was hoping to get Marantz like sound and I almost got it !!!
