Hi folks, and how's things? Having had a rest from RG thought it about time I re-joined. Is it safe ? ;-)
I have enjoyed quite a few changes to my hi-fi system(s) since in here last so, for what it's worth, here's what I'm using right now.
Main system: Oppo BDP-103D > Benchmark DAC2 HGC > Benchmark AHB2 power amp > Spendor D7 loudspeakers. The Oppo is sourced, simply, from an attached USB 3.0 hard drive. No messing around (at the moment) with wi-fi, servers and so on.
Headphone amps: Benchmark DAC2 HGC, Topping NX-1, MF V-CANii. Though not strictly amp, I have a FiiO M3 DAP on order and it's expected via Amazon tomorrow.
Headphones: Still have Grado SR60 & 80 plus Superlux HD681. Recently bought a Superlux HD662 EVO. But my current total favourite is the fabulous Oppo PM-3. Now that's a great 'phone.
My office system's old 1990s Kenwood amp has been sold on as it's selector swithces became too noisy and intermittent. Initially, as a stop-gap, I bought a little 'Tripath' Topping TP21; 10 watts or so (with a following wind and fingers crossed). But it seems ample for a near-field office-desk type system so maybe I'll stick with it.
Very happy with where I've ended up, which is useful as I'm sure my wife will agree that my hobby fund has run out.

Hi Derek, Great to hear from you and of course it's safe..... you are always welcome here. There hasn't been a lot happening here but I thinks that's pretty much the same with quite a few of the forums but moreso here...... most people these days seem to live on "facebook"...... Glad to hear you've found the ideal system for yourself, at the end of the day it's all about enjoying the music and not the equipment.... I'm happy you've reached that point. Not much new with me on the equipment front..... I'll listen to music on anything whether it be a car radio, a vintage radio, a headphone amp, a pair of speakers, a pair of headphones, CD as source, computer as source or 78rpm vinyl as source or even "live" as source! I've built up quite an insane collection of vintage radios over the years which are going to have to go as I'm planning on downsizing and moving into town..... one entire room in the house pretty much resembles a mini radio museum and there's no way I can take them with me, the idea of "downsizing" is to get rid of the clutter..... not take it with you I'll be pretty pissed to let them all go, each one of them has a unique character, but all things must pass.... we are mere custodians of our material possessions........ Anyhoo, I have decided to donate all of them to the Orkney Wireless Museum: www.orkneywirelessmuseum.org.uk/ that way they can be appreciated for, hopefully, many years to come. I will start a thread before they go along with photos and info about each radio..... not state of the art microchip throwaway after a year relevance to today's generation BUT an insight into the past where gear was built to last forever and a day. How is the weather your end Derek? It's been absolutely scorching up here in Caithness the past few weeks (averaging 14C) but there's a huge storm on it's way and I reckon we will be in darkness from Friday through till monday. The gusts the past couple of days have been mild (enough to take the legs from under you) at 39MPH but it's starting to pick up as I type. The forecast for Friday isn't looking good, the gusts could hit 100MPH in exposed areas (erm, that's me) and power cuts / structural damage / trees down are a given. The calm before the storm this year was absolutely unbelievable two whole weeks of calm and warm weather...... there is always a price to pay for that and everybody up here is preparing for one Mama Honker of a storm. A great opportunity to try out my Shadowhawk X-800 torch!
