A kind of "remember what it was like to get into the zone" session........... what is your "go to" starter?
Mine has to be:
Every day of the week.... what's your go to starter "tune" when you feel like an all night session?

Like James Woods said to Michael J. Fox in The Hard Way: "It's something we are, not something we do."

I often say to people that if Jesus is sitting on the right hand of God, then Ronnie Van Zandt is definitely in the first row on the left.

The last 2 years of no employment living on the govt. pension has been good, but old habits of work, work, work have allowed little time to listen to anything except a few random tunes found on the Web. This here is probably what they call cathartic.

This here is probably what they call cathartic. Saw them live on many occasions over the years Dale, absolutely SUPERB when they were at their best but pretty DIRE when Knopfler decided to "economise" on his guitar solos. Telegraph Road was the best track on "Love over Gold" IMO. I've got all of their albums (and not one of them a bad one) and would be happy to burn them onto disc for you Dale, just tell me the where and I'll fire them across the pond for you. Crappy footage: Sultans of swing live: GOD it seems like only yesterday..... that was 31 YEARS ago!

Classic Dire Straits..... the tunnel of love.
Piss poor quality (with regard to the "youtube" rendition) but, believe me, absolute perfection in real life:

One of the most underrated UK bands IMO.
I was a rabid fan until they came out with this commercial crap:

One of the most underrated UK bands IMO. I was a rabid fan until they came out with this commercial crap: If I were stranded on a desert island with only the original video, 8-plus minutes, with the band and the animation and the original lyrics, I could watch it over and over for the rest of my life. I cannot imagine anything in this world so complete, so fulfilling as the original Money For Nothing. I have that video, and I'm watching it now (and might not ever stop).

I never really took the time toget into Frank Zappa Chris but I will now..... what's a good starter album? Mike. That's really difficult Mike as his output is pretty varied in style and content. A lot of people can't get past the smut and in-jokes in the lyrics but not all the albums have that, but he can seem pretty quirky to people. I suppose one place to start would be an early album, "Hot Rats", others that are worth listening to are "The Grand Wazoo", "One Size Fits All", "Roxy & Elsewhere". If you are more interested in his guitar playing you could look at "Guitar" & Shut Up and Play Your Guitar". Here's "One Size Fits All" which starts off with Inca Roads which is quirky but has a great guitar solo.

The track Brain Police is the reference for all thought and existence.

"Freak out! Le Freak, c'est Chic / Have you heard about the new dance craze? / Listen to us, I'm sure you'll be amazed / Big fun to be had by everyone!"
Not Frank but a valid statement nonetheless........

That's why the Mothers album, bad as it is, is all you need.

Well that's Zappa dismissed as crap with someone only needing one of his least representative albums. A shame to be missing out on so much well written and performed music, but most people, to quote Zappa, "wouldn't know good music if it came up and bit them on the ass".
