I was down at Scrabster harbour this afternoon, it was 24C and blue skies so what better excuse for spending a few hours sporting a T-Shirt and mobile phone I took quite a few photos with the Z5 (23MP / 4.3) but I'm not convinced that this phone's camera can do 23MP and am pretty much sure that the "23MP" claims are a bit pumped up to say the least. Dale and Leo, what are your thoughts? This particluar photo has not been optimised nor reduced in quality (to compress it) and was taken with a very steady hand. To my untrained eyes, it's adequate for a phone camera but no way is that 23MP is it? Comments appreciated, full size version here: www.rock-grotto.co.uk/sonyz5.jpgMike.

The "Round Britain Experience" yacht is quite out of focus / etched and I would expect a GOOD camera to home in the "round Britain Experience" with crystal clarity...... am I expecting too much from this phone? The guy who was painting his boat "Venture" he also looks pretty etched. www.rock-grotto.co.uk/sonyz5.jpg

24 degrees in Scotland?? It wasn't quite that warm in Southampton. With my limited experience of what to expect from 23MP, I would be disappointed if that's what I ended up with. Adequate for a phone camera though as you say but not much sharper than my crappy Sony cheapo phone.

It was actually 24C when I left Reay and headed into town Chris, it's always warmer in Reay than it is in town (Thurso), the high in Thurso today was about 21C...... zero wind / clear skies / pure sunshine. Never believe the forecasts, they are bollocks. The forecasts reckon 22C for tomorrow but if it's a good day we could see temps of 27C, never believe what you see on the BBC weather forecast, it's pretty much bollocks. It's ALWAYS the same up here..... a totally SHIT summer BUT we generally get a few days of scorchio mid August and that's about it. The "BBC" reckon it will be 23C here tomorrow: www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2639573 I can tell from the feel of things that it will be more like 27C...... the harvest flies are out in abundance, the midges have gone to ground, the lambs are sleeping, the birds have taken to the trees..... that is a sure fire sign that a period of dry / sunny weather is upon us.

You can see the result of pixel-stuffing on the small sensor on the boat at right, the "Seagem" logo for example. A full-frame DSLR would have it clean, and even an APS-C camera would do well, with minimal noise. Once your eyes get accustomed to the worst, you can see the slight raggedness in the better areas as well. The good news is, even with the ridiculous pixel density, you'll get a lot of good detail in full sunlight / high contrast shots. So.... pretty much a shit phone? How could they have misled me like that? I will be taking legal advice, god how was I so stupid to buy into their high pressure sale? They promised me the best phone PLUS camera on planet Earth...... my entire life has been ruined, oh god they promised 23MP, I feel so cheated / raped / abused / mistreated. The thing is....... I am not one who normally complains but I NEED 23 mega pixels...... I can't function unless I have 23 megapixels..... surely I am entitled to make a claim?
