It looks a little drafty for overnights in the Winter. Yes, I'd imagine the wind would get up and around your hollyhocks on a cold, blustery winter's evening. Perfect for the summer though...... open plan..... but no internet access or electricity. Superb venue for an indoor barbecue but I doubt the national trust / English Heritage would frown on that type of "enjoyment" in and about one of their preserved ruins.

A summer food bank and a place for the homeless junkies and losers to crash in maybe?

an excellent venue for a mosque / convert it into a trendy Mosque..... at least the Islamists have the money / funding to fit carpets and double glazing it would look quite nifty with a nice gold dome, windows, carpets and a crescent flag flying above it.

It looks a little drafty for overnights in the Winter. Dale, your command / usage of the English language is absolutely exemplary but the English for a breeze that reaches your hollyhocks is "draughty" and not "drafty". Draughty is pronounced "DRAFTY" so, YES, "Drafty" is easier to understand and bastardise but "DRAUGHTY" is the correct derivation. A draft in English = A preliminary version of a piece of writing. A draught = A current of cool air in a room or other confined space.

Leo, thank you for sharing this. I had no idea this sort of success could be achieved with a 300mm lens plus a teleconvertor. I'm assuming the 'TC-17e' is a Nikon teleconverter? If that is the lens spec. you used then I am going to try this for myself.
I don't have a 300mm at f2.8, but I do have a 55-300 zoom with the max aperture limited to f5.8 when set to 300mm. Worth a go? However, if a larger aperture is needed then I could use my f3.5 200mm. Either lens, plus either of my 2x converters, may allow me to approach the degree of image magnification you managed. The sharpness is another issue. We'll see
Time to dust off the tripod.
afternote:
Your lens combination: 300mm / f2.8 plus the 1.7x converter is effectively 510mm @ f4.2 max aperture. My choices are either: 200mm / f3.5 plus the 2x converter is effectively 400mm @ f7.0 max aperture or : 300mm / f5.8 plus the 2x converter is effectively 600mm @ f11.6 max aperture

No problem and thanks for the kind words. I have both the Nikon x1.4 and x1.7 TC's , I also tried them on my 80-400G zoom which is f5.6 , TBH the 1.4 works best with that lens . It has a large affect on image quality making it noticeably softer even stopping down. The 300mm f2.8 prime is razor sharp on its own, the x1.4 TC only very slightly degrades quality and the x1.7 a little more so. I have heard sample quality can vary with TC's some some get far better results than others, I also heard the latest x2 is supposed to work very well with the prime but I prefer the wider apertures
BTW my latest moon shot with the 300+ 1.7 TC was taken handheld , I stopped it down to f7.1 . If you look back a page or two my other moon shot was taken with the 80-400G zoom +1.7 TC, I can notice quite a difference in sharpness even though the prime one has a larger crop

Actally Leo....... they are incredible photos mate..... hard enough to get one of my regular pheasants to stand still for more than 2 seconds (whilst eating seed!) so I can't begin to imagine how you capture a FLYING bird with such superb detail! It's got f**k all to do with the camera you're using (though that helps) you know how to capture a moment in time and that is priceless.... seriously good photography mate Got any candid? Nudge nudge, wink wink....... know what I mean? I'm glad you don't take photos of the human zoo mate..... nothing worse than seeing photos of humans you don't know (and probably don't WANT to know) there is nothing more puke invoking than looking at a group of human animals that you don't know.... slightly less puke inducing if you know them but, even still.... as boring as looking at a brick. Nature / wildlife is a lot more interesting than a photo of some prick / pricks saying cheese. As I said a while back Leo...... your wildlife photography is some of the best I have ever seen.... total quality, you've got a good eye and a great talent Sir. Glad you've found something that makes you happy and most would say "you could make an earner out of that" but I know you..... you're quite happy with the vibe of getting out there and snapping the birds in flight, a nice place to be, BUT (seriously) you could also be making a few bob (and then some) to fund your field trips Leo. World leading nature photography, no other word for your work..... it's THAT good. All the best Leo, Mike.

If there was a bird in flight on the bright side of the moon, we would have seen it with that photo. Mike's got the dark side covered. So Mike, any birds on the dark side of the moon?

Thanks mate much appreciated , I've never really thought about trying to make any money out of it tbh. I'll admit the bird in flight shots are not easy especially when the camera + lens weigh just over 4kg, the depth of field is tiny at 400-500mm so I have to try and keep the bird in the centre of the view finder whilst following it. It would be much easier with a small lens but a bird at these distances would look like a dot so its like trying to follow something with a telescope . I'm not really a people person if I'm totally honest , if I was in the company of a group of 5+ that would be considered as a crowd . Somebody recently asked if I'd be the photographer at their wedding, it was hard not to say F*** that ! I politely declined . Anyway we are currently in Whitby again until Saturday, lots of people around here doing the usual say cheese shots and bloody selfies , I really don't understand the fascination feeling the need to get your own stupid face in every photo. At the local pavilion there was a Steampunk event on, not really my thing but people was dressed up in some unusual looking outfits . This is probably the first person I've ever photographed , I don't have a portrait lens so just used a wide angled one I use for landscape _DSC7822_openWith by leo kirkbride, on Flickr

Took these whilst on a boat, Gannets fishing in the sea, sorry the quality isn't great, they was quite a distance so have been cropped . I was also honoured to see a Minke whale , the last pics are of the Comorant _DSC8045_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8046_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8058_openWith-Edit-2 by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8657_openWith-Edit-2 by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8568_openWith-Edit D500 300+TC-14e iii by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8566_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC9717_openWith by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC9717_openWith-1-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC9533_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr
