Brilliant photos, I used to have a half reasonable camera, but these days due to marriage and of course marriage, I only have a smartphone so they all come out either out of focus or with some horrible enhancement that gives everything a nasty black edge or something similar.

X2..... superb photos Leo! Plenty of birds where I am (mostly eating nuts and seed) but whenever I open the back door they fly away I must get my camera rigged up somewhere so both myself and the camera are hidden and see if I can get some close up shots of birds on the feeding station.

I'll strap MYSELF to a tripod and hopefully manage to press the camera button without getting the DT's I really need to go now, I am about to choke on my own vomit and shake "uncontrollably" on the floor..... at this rate of knots I may end up in the same nut house Dale is in Seriously, that was bang out of order by a certain person portraying me (and others) as "unstable" in a back room / underhanded / gossip monger way. Anyhoo, we live and learn.

Most of mine are heavily cropped shot at 400mm , my cameras getting on a bit now and to be honest I think I'm pushing it as far as it'll go. Static shots are piece of p*** , it's the fast paced birds in flight I enjoy most but the weather lately has been holding me back. I want something that can shoot ISO1600+ to give me the high shutter speeds in poor light. I was taking more pics of Peregrines , the ones with sky background are ok but most of the hunting was done infront of the old mill so obviously you loose the light. I cranked up the ISO shooting wide open but you get that noise and grain when trying to raise the shadows DSC_8070_openWith by leon kirkbride, on Flickr This pic really annoyed me although it was very high up top of the mill , the shutter went from 1/1600 down to about 500 which was too slow giving blur Wish I had the cash to buy that Nikon D500 DSC_8067_openWith by leon kirkbride, on Flickr

More nice photos leo! Unfortunately, it's lashing it down up here.... plenty of wet birds (winged variety) but I can't be arsed trying to capture them on camera..... it's too wet Some say that next Monday and Tuesday will be summer and we may even witness a high of "20C" up here so I'll strip down to my long johns and thermal vest and pop out for a photo shoot If it tops the predicted 20C I may even consider removing my wooly hat...... hell, you only live once, why not!?

That close up of the bee is awesome Leo and you're a braver man than me! If I so much as "see" a bee or wasp I go running to the hills screaming like a girl

Not too bad for high ISO , original pic was black so I had to raise the exposure and shadows in post , was expecting much more noise DSC_1396_openWith-3 by leon kirkbride, on Flickr

I hate sitting in my mates garden because his garden bench is right next to a giant lavender bush and there are a good 100 bees buzzing about over it at any given time..... I'm up and down off the bench like a yo-yo, I really don't trust bees OR wasps having been stung many many times over the years. Wasps are the worst, especially in autumn, I always manage to get stung by one of the bastards...... many years ago I took a swig of coke out of a can and got a wasp in my MOUTH!! I managed to spit it out before it had an opportunity to sting..... that was not a good experience My first sting was when I was 5...... I can't really remember it but apparantly I was playing in a sand pit and hit a bee with a plastic shovel.... it stung me on the end of my nose...... that must have put me off them for life

Thats unlucky , I've only been stung buy a couple of wasps . I've actually handled a few Bumblebees and never been stung by those, if your gentle they tend to be ok. Waving arms about in a panic is the worse thing to do. I get pretty close when taking pics and have them buzzing around my head, once they realise your not a giant flower they don't seem to bother you . Theres been a massive decline in them down here

It's absolutely LASHING it down at the moment with a few flashes of lightning followed by thunder 6 seconds later..... if it gets any closer I'm pulling the plug as my computer has been wiped out by lightning 3 years in a row...... the last time it even took out the modem........ They say lightning never strikes twice, never believe what "they" tell you

We've not had many here in a while though , its damn humid and no sign of rain yet .

Amazing to think, the nearest star so far away, a 200 billion more stars with no life, and a trillion stars in Andromeda with no life, and here we are killing our only safe place in the universe. Couldn't agree more Dale. The most precious place in the universe and we are decimating it at an alarming rate of knots..... they reckon that there will be no rain forest left in 100 years........ Bumble bees are disappearing......... the ozone layer etc. etc. etc. Doesn't matter though, MacDonalds and Coca Cola will save the day! www.zengardner.com/the-systematic-decimation-of-planet-earth/It sounds creepy BUT the only way of saving planet Earth is to remove human animals from it. Great Britain sent all the convicts over to Australia back in the day, what we need to do is to send the entire Human population of Planet Earth into space for 500 years and give Planet Earth a chance to heal "naturally". That's the ideal way of doing things but not at all possible or practical. Mother nature will inevitibly call the shots and that will involve the extinction of the Human animal (and the poor non human animals) and will take it from there. I don't believe in "God" but I do believe in Mother Nature and when she gets angry, she gets angry BIG time!! As soon as her pubes have been shaven off (The rain forest) she will go apeshit and Tsunami our "human" arses into tomorrow

Taken through thick reflective glass covered in marks , it was also high ISO because of the poor lighting . Not as sharp as I liked but I wanted to get the facial expression of this fantastic ape DSC_1894 by leon kirkbride, on Flickr

"....they reckon that there will be no rain forest left in 100 years...." I've heard that the last full rainforest is expected to be gone by 2030. After that we'll have just a few fragments. Here are my only lightning pics I can find that I posted, circa 2011 using the Leica X1. Nice shot ! I must give it a try . It's extremely worrying how things are going , I agree what the world needs is a good clear out
