Hi, I am about to buy a Denon AVR X4000 (125W per channel 20Hz to 20KHz. 2 channels driven) to add to my stereo system. One of the nice features (I hope ) is it's Audyssey MultEQ XT32 Platinum which allows for dual subwoofer integration. ( hopefully ?) This receiver allows all channels to be used as Pre out feeds. As I have two subwoofers I am keen to make use of the bass management on the AVR as my present integrated amp doesn't have any bass management. One issue I keep reading is that AVRs do not play music as well as conventional amps due to all the extra circuity noise and so I thought that I may use the pre out fronts from the AVR to feed into the Aux channel of the integrated and play my fronts from there but leave the subwoofers and surrounds connected to the AVR. Normally when stereo mode is selected on the AVR it will also play the subs and I assume this would still apply. My questions are will this setup be feasible and will I still get the benefit of the Audyssey control for all speakers ? Any help would be much appreciated as I have never owned an AVR and am very green about what they can and cannot do.

As Audyssey works in reaction to a microphone source it will function just the same with any combination of pre-outs used and internal amplification. If you have a better quality stereo amp it makes perfect sense to use that for standard stereo and front main duties.

Hi again CJ and anyone else who may be reading , I have been thinking a little more since your reply (This thinking thing is always a dangerous pastime) and I came up with another question. When you set up with Audyssey will it first optimise for stereo (with subwoofers) and then for surround sound or will it just optimise for the full complement of speakers that are connected ? I am anxious that my music reproduction should be as good as possible and movie performance is secondary, but still important. What I don't want is the system set up to optimise movie performance at the possible expense of stereo performance. Any advice would be most welcome.

Sorry for delayed reply, I've been away for a couple of days.
You have me at a loss with your latest question as I've only ever used the very earliest version of Audyssey in conjunction with one of the original AV amps that was capable of microphone set up. I've been out of the game too long I'm afraid and am not up to date! You would need to read through the how-to for both the version of Audyssey and your amp or find a forum specialising on Audyssey. In my day Audyssey was simply for the surround sound effects balance but this could well have changed/advanced, the same goes for the AV amps.

I have no experience of the unit you're asking about but, as always, use your own ears and have a damned good fiddle about with the controls...... when it sounds good to your ears it IS good Let us know how you get on with it. Best regards, Mike.

Hi CJ and Mike, My apologies for not getting back sooner but for some reason I am not receiving email notifications from the site although I am signed up to do so. Thanks for the input and I will report back when I am up and running. Since my initial post I am now in the process of buying a new house where I will be setting up my first dedicated home cinema/music room. I can't wait to get started on the project but it will be some weeks before the house purchase is complete. All the best.
