With the iPhone 6 & 6plus already out the gauntlet is down to other manufacturers to try and catch up with the Apple domination of this market. I've had a play with freinds iPhone 6 and it is very good indeed, larger than the previous models and much slicker in both looks and operation.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge are now imminent as well. From the specs they also look pretty impressive.
HTC, the point of this post, also have their ONE M9 on the way. Amoungst all the usuall specs I spotted the following...

I like a lot about the iphone except the fact that you have to use itunes to transfer files. Yep, iTunes has me running for the hills too, total PITA programme. If you have the time to learn all the major traps in iTunes, it becomes more useful with the iPhone. I have 2400 music tracks, 2400 video clips, 2800 full-res photos, 750 or so PDF's and other documents, 70 apps, and various other things on my 128 gb iPhone 6-plus, not to mention that the 6-plus has a much better audio section than the previous iPhones. One example to show how hard iTunes can be to use effectively unless you know the tricks - to get my photos where I can find a photo quickly from the 2800, they need to be named and in alphabetic order. Of course iTunes doesn't care about the names. iTunes sorts by last date/time written to the folder it gets the images from. That's not date/time modified, it's date time written to that folder. So what I do is use a high-speed USB thumb drive and create a new folder ('Pics') there with appropriate subfolders, and from the DOS command line in Windows XP, I copy the files from a PC folder to the thumb drive folder like so: "copy c:\pic\large f:\pics\large". This is very important, as the last date/time of files written to that folder will be the same as the alphabetic name order, since the PC O/S sorts the files by filename by default. Two other things are very important: 1) delete any existing folder on the thumb drive before you start, including hidden files and folders, and 2) when you tell iTunes to sync photos, first sync to a folder that has just one photo in it, so all the existing photos on the phone are removed (the only way to get a perfect filename sequence). Then resync to the 'pics' folder. Now anyone can reply to this to say they don't need this option blah blah blah, but I'm detailing this here to show how it's done for people who want to have large numbers of photos on their iphone and be able to find a specific photo quickly. iTunes does sort my song titles correctly, which I set up as "Artist - Songname", but of course I have to name the tracks that way - both filename and in the properties or tags. Actually, when you get right down to it, the secret to having your information quickly retrievable on a phone is getting control of the filenames, or in the case of photos, doing the workaround. From an information professional point of view, Apple is serving pablum to customers who they see as having either very low intelligence, or slothfulness to match. But when I had Motorola and HTC etc., those were worse.

What you are saying there sound like very sensible work arounds for said inconveniences, though they shouldn't be needed if the programme was designed for flexibility. My overriding gripe is the idiotic syncing system, fine for first load but after that a PITA. All the others use drag and drop and automatically sort the revised folder. Then add the work around required for 2 devices on one PC/MAC, cannot copy from 1 player to another, work around for this, work around for that etc etc. For peeps like me the programme is a total disaster.

I only sync that which is required to sync, i.e. photos and saving apps from phone to computer. All other info I manage manually.
