Hello all, this is my first post on the forum. has anyone had any experience with MF fine tuning service, I am thinking of having my X RAY CD player done, I also use a X 10D and have tweaked this myself, with the help of the Rock Grotto, but the CD is too complex for me to do, plus, it is not sounding as good as it did when new. Hi Bob,
I'm glad you managed to sort your X-10 with information herein.
As far as the X-Ray is concerned I think it depends on how much you want to spend on it and what you want to acheive. If you think the performance has gone below par and merely want it returned to original spec. then pretty much any elecrtronic engineer in any repair shop could do that at a fraction of the price MF will charge you. There have been many questions raised over the quality and completeness of the claimed work done in a MF service anyway, let alone the price charged. However, if you feel more comfortable entrusting the X Ray to the manufacturer for such things then go ahead.
Possibly have a google around for recommended modifications that may even increase its performance over stock. Generally speaking, many of these give good instructions too so if you can wield a soldering iron it may be within your scope for DIY service and upgrade?
There is also John Sampson at JS Audio, he is a long standing but now ex MF service engineer. If you must have service/upgrade work done for you I'd rather entrust it to his good reputation than to MF themselves. (BTW I sold MF for many years and share the negative outlook on their level of service and general attitude)

I'll back what cj says about John Sampson. I met him when he upgraded my MF power amp - a great guy to deal with. Drop him an email and he'll phone you to discuss options.

Hi Dale, I have been inside it and all looks in very good condition, I did give it a gentle blow with an air line to remove any dust, also had a chat with John Sampson, recommended by other members, and may have him have a look at it, a full upgrade will cost me £450.00 so I need to have a think.
