Friedrich Many equipment manufacturers use the 45xx series and 5532 etc for 2 main reasons. They do the job reasonably well, and are INEXPENSIVE. Some manufacturers may still use the 5532AN version in phono preamps for their low noise characteristics, ::)but that does NOT mean that is the best way to go . There are far lower noise transistors and I.C.s available today. ;D This forum may not exist, if it wasn't for the shortcomings evident in most reasonably priced commercial equipment !!! Alex I had seen Reflex use two AD817AN

Alex You've also got to realise that quite a lot of the recorded music you listen to has gone through an NE5532 at one point or another... it's been a stalwart for many years and no need to discount it because it's old, they are nice sounding chips (albeit a bit warm) and have a signature that the majority of folk would actually like. They're not trendy though so better whip them out ASAP and replace them with the latest all singing all dancing chip!

Yep, the old NE5532 is still used in a lot of pro gear, its fairly slow, not very high bandwidth but does the job. Quite a few headphone amps use it, remember the Canamp folks still use that unmodded and seem very happy with it

I find it interesting to read post after post indicating that although specs are important the final test is in the listening, yet neither of you have listened to the 01 an instead of giving it the benefit of the doubt you both blew it off. Just my opinion of course. I've not blown the 01 off ... ?? I would happily have a listen if you can part with it for a period! "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off."

Perhaps it could then be compared with the souvenir Singer amplifier ? I think the souvenir singer should be UK tweaked and then sent around the circuit again.... you up for a bit of that Leo?

I thought you may have been up for that Mike We'll see how things go and when we get time. Judging by the posts it seems there was only me who really disliked it ;D

I've been meaning to post but i've been to tired to give a good statement on my listenings on the singer. Story short i had the amp's on for 12 hours before i jacked in my 650's. I listened in the dark so my senses were all on the sound. I found both the O1 DAC and the singer, to be a pleasure to listen to i felt almost at the studio, but with choice of the mix and masters, you get what i felt over compression on the snare. This is what i found on the singer more so, i then plugged in the O1 DAC and it sounded more natural or neutral. But at one point on the snare they turned down the compression and it sounds a lot better. I was listening to Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La. The rest, sound stage bass, vocal other instruments all sounded very good. Though i didn't like the highened treble on this ablum, which to most of us, found on taste, pleasing or not, that airness or openess or simply giving more distortion on the higher end. I do sence that the singer has been well thought in the design and i do here a refined sound. When i did listen to shpongled i found the singer give some add dimension to there sound, i noticed a few things which i corrently did not notice on the O1 DAC, though switching over i did hear it on the DAC. Though to my ears and i have to take in account i have very sensitive earing, i at times have to cover my ears. Ie amblence going past or some fireworks ect. And i have the add joy of testing my ears once and i found at the time i could only hear upto 3Khz one ear and 17Khz on the other, i can ear down to about 30ish Hz. So for tracks which lack the upper end or simply like the refined sound of the singer it is for you, on the other hand, considering i have this O1 DAC, after awhile i was drawn back to the O1 DAC and my night of listening pleasure continued. These is not my final thoughts on the singer. As i few things i would like to explore on it. But if my time is up please say and i will send the singer on. I do like, Perhaps it could then be compared with the souvenir Singer amplifier ? I think the souvenir singer should be UK tweaked and then sent around the circuit again.... you up for a bit of that Leo? i would to be interested like i have now to see what i would sound like, with tweaks and new trasformer/ power stage.

On another note, i wonder what the singer would sound like if i had a dedicted Dac for the singer, my thoughts would change, i've already know that the dac in my cd player is not as good as a decided Dac as i have already tested taking the cd player to someone who has a dac.
Though i would have to spend as much on the singer if not more for cables to reach a sound which i already have, though i would on an eduacted guess that it would possibly sound better.
Thought i could meet the guy with the dac, i would probalby ask if he could have his system on over night and give him the singer, which i would not be happy with as i haven't ask for permission to do this, as singer when moves will simply go back in the box. Though whether he would be willing i don't know.

Right! Time to allow others to have this amp, to be totally honest I've been listening to the my other amp. I ended up buying a optical cable to see the quality difference between coaxial, couldn't tell the difference at all. So the singer is now been left to collect dust , so to speak. So who is it going to next? I'm very grateful for the trust you've have given me, considering i haven't been on this forum long. And also to give me insight with headphone amps. I would love to hear the solo and the AKG701. Thank you again. Nathan P.S. I haven't been able to get a DAC for a few reasons. one being, i wasn't able to contact the guy who had the DAC and I've been focused on other things.

Has anyone buy'd a Mr. DouDou Singer amp? No chance of ever buying one..... I told the designer that "dou dou" translated into "shit" in English and he was never seen again.... Hold on, there IS a chance of buying one... you can buy the one and only Dou Dou singer here: rockgrotto.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=06712&thread=8162I still rate it highly but I think the name "dou dou" and the manufacturer "head testament" kind of lessened the appeal.... it sounded quite "toilet" like, I believe they call a toilet bowl a "head" in the USA.... so "dou dou" and "head" were probably NOT the best ways to market a headphone amp I'll pop the lid and take some high res photos.... it may be called a Mr. DouDou head testament but it certainly isn't shite...... far from it! Mike.
