In my search for portable headphones (haven't heard the DT1350 yet ) I stumbled on the HD238.
In stock form it is a bit leaning on the bassy side and very 'laid back' sounding but IMO an improvement over the other Sennheiser option (PX100)
It is a small, nice looking, open, portable, earpad headphone (on ear) that can/should be driven by portable gear directly or portable amps (low Ohmic).
It has a bigger sound than one might expect and more velvety than most portables.
It did have too much lows for my taste and also could be a tad more sparkly, but besides those points good sounding.
The normal price is somewhere between E 80.- and E 100.- which is too expensive IMO.
I got it secondhand for E 40.- (included shipping) which is more in line with the value it represents audio wise.
I couldn't help it.. The sound signature isn't exactly ideal but very promissing so it had to be modified. Electronic filtering was not possible because of the impedance characteristcs at the lower frequencies that had to be adressed.
Yes, it reacts noticeably to different output resistances of amplifiers.
I recommend low Ohmic output resistances for this headphone.
Since most portable stuff is low Ohmic it was clearly designed to be driven by portable gear.
Anyway... the mods are described in this pdf:

and are easy to do.
No soldering required, just some blu-tack, wool and a small screwdriver.
