Hi everyone, I know it’s maybe not the right place for in ear monitors, but anyway its OK when moved. We are sort fans of Superlux headphones so I got these IEMs. The package was the smallest I have ever seen. That’s actually nice. Lowers end costs for the consumer. And its more environmental friendly. The IEMs are in glossy black plastic, actually the quality is OK for the 16£ I paid. The cable is thin but not the worst in this price class. Its 0.6m long with a extension cable with another 0.6m.They have a 13.5 mm dynamic driver. The design matches the actual line of Sony IEMs, with a lot higher price tag. There is a guy from Taiwan at eBay. He sells the HD381 for 37£ each. That was not my cup of tea, so I waited half a year till “Thomann” had them in stock. I have not too much experience with IEMs, but these are the most comfortable things i ever put in my ears. The smallest tips have the right size and fit. I don’t feel the IEMs, they not irritating my ears - no pain, no sweating and swearing. The weight in ear is very well balanced. Actually I even don’t feel them in my ears, they lightweight. Yesterday I listened for 6 hours without any kind of discomfort and pain as usually after so long listening sessions with IEMs. My cheap and good UE SuperFi 4 made my ears very sweaty, and the fit has to be tight, so I feel really odd, and reset them after longer time. Have some IEMs Koss KE29 aka. Beyerdynamic DTX 50 the material of the tips was nice, but had not a proper fit for me. Now the sound. The hd381 are the bass heavy type with actually very good mids and highs. With a lot of detail and clarity. They have actually a big soundstage. And feel more like a normal sized pair of semi open headphones. Not like IEMs with the “in your head” feel. According to Superlux the HD381 should have the sound characteristics of the Sennheiser CX400 so it would be fun to hear these too. Compared to the Koss KE29 - they had a very bloated bass. The mid and high frequency detail because of this (in my opinion) was lost. The Super Fi 4 are very flat and dry sounding. Have maybe the better and clearer mid’s but are not as comfortable and overall exciting as the Supelux HD381. So my résumé, the HD381 are very, very comfortable IEMs, they offer a lot of quality sound for a reasonable price. And I will definitely try to get the more accurate sounding HD381F, HD381B.

Uzminu Apparently the 381f is the one to go for then the b version. Mmmm tempting as i have a pair of sennheiser mx500 buds that i,ve had for about 5 years, although they sound good out my old mp3 player and nokia x6 phone i think the f version will be better than the sennys, wonder when thomman will get the f version. www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/493052/superlux-hd381-series-mini-review-comparisonsHeres a reveiw from headfi. paddy

Hi Uz, I got quite a few samples over from Superlux a while ago.... just had a look in my cabinet and found these: I haven't even opened them (in ear is not my thing) they are yours if you want them? Maybe you could do a small write up on them comparing them with your other pair of HD381 If you'd like them please PM me your address and I'll get them over to you ASAP. Mike.

Thank you Mike, you got a PM.
Paddy, I asked thomann about the other Superluxes (inclusive earphones), and they said they will try to get these with the next shipment. Actually if somebody is really interested simply mail them, so they know somwhere is a demand...

Kaspars.... I opened the packet today (to check all was ok) and there is nothing printed on the buds to denote HD 381"B"... they are "Identical" to the others (in appearance) so maybe best to label these as 381 "B" .... could be they are all exactly the same buds in different packaging, hopefully not.... it would be great if you can detect a "difference" I'll get them in the post to you on Friday Kaspars. Mike.

Is your new icon (white rabbit) the white rabbit from the "Matrix" movie, Kaspars? In-ear is also not my thing, but I could imagine that those Superlux IEM's are also a bargain and compare well to much more expensive competitive products. Claus makes own foamies for his IEM's and swears that the custom foamies improve the comfort big time.

The white rabbit its "Rockgrotto's" have to find a good pic. for my avatar. For everyone who thinks in-ars are not they thingie, i can loudly say - i hated in-ears and earphones because they had a bad fit/weight/design of ergonomics, got "very hot and sweaty" after long sessions, caused a lot of pain (sore, stiching). Tried foam tips, i dont like them even if they comfortable, its a thingie of personal taste.i dont like the foamy feel on my skin. These are the "first time in my life" IEM's that i find very comfortable. And the sound, its great! Now they a good alternative to the big headphones when i under way/travelling/dont like to look like a turd...

No offence about the look's of turdiness. 90% of my free time i have a big pair of headphones, simply sometimes in public it is over the top having a big pair of headphones.
Has somebody tried go to a church with headphones? "Oh yeah i hear everything what the priest says, these are open air headphones!" C'mon everybody will think your'a complete w.nker!

The HD25-1/II's look cool. Even in public. If I don't like "big" 'phones for public/outdoor, I take the HD25-1/II's. I tested them recently in blizzard-style weather. Such weather is not problem for the HD25-1/II's. Even heavy rain is no real problem as long as you take care to dry the pads afterwards. I agree absolutely that IEM's have some advantages. They are very small and unobtrusive while still giving good sound quality. Isolation from surrounding noise is also good with most IEM's. My main problem with them is the lacking comfort and the small soundstage. In-head localisation is also more eminent than with "big" and open headphones. I have a pair of Sennheiser CX500's. They sound not bad, comfort is better than with most ultra-cheap IEM's but it's still not nearly as good as when I'm wearing "big" headphones. BTW: Has anyone tested the Phonak Audéo PFE? I'll try to get a Phonak Audéo PFE but only if I can get it much cheaper than the normal price (which is rather high). I've seen quite a few auctions with new Audéo's here in Switzerland.

I can safely say I have NEVER gone to church (and have no intention of EVER doing so).... I'll probably end up in some god related establishment when I'm dead (he was a good man and God welcomes him with open arms type BS : ..... never been to "church" but HAVE walked past churches listening to musak (does that count?)..... went in for a "look" one time (not wearing headphones) and the priest came at me with a cross and bulb of garlic..... I had to leave as my head started to smoke Closest to "church" I have gone with music is the £14.99 (shipped) pair of Fenchurch 'phones I recently purchased.... they have the word "church" in them so they are good to go for religious music IMO.... Team Fenchurch.....

This is a typical session of City Harvest Church in Singapore. A pop concert or church service? Heh, heh, heh, Giant Hifi HPs should be A-OK here! Although I'm not a Christian but I still prefer the traditional church service as I came from a Christian school St Andrew's School when I was young. Yup, my principal Mr Francis Thomas , was Welsh and long gone to heaven. Pretty strict with discipline but overall still a very nice person when not in his role. So should be still long gone to heaven. Yup, again, very popular for young turks so called Christains.

I just wrote to Thomann and they replied that they have only the 381. I fear that they will never stock the 381F. Anyone has a chance to find them at good price (not the $50 that someone sells it for on ebay)? Uzminu Apparently the 381f is the one to go for then the b version.
