I saw these on ebay the other day and after the sucess of the HD681 cheapo phones I though I'd give them a go. cgi.ebay.co.uk/LARGE-ENCLOSED-OPEN-AIR-SYSTEM-STEREO-HEADPHONES_W0QQitemZ190320142975QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioVisualElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Headphones?hash=item2c4ff6ea7fI've only had them on my head half an hour and they've already opened out a little and are a really enjoyable listen. They are keepers already. Musically everything needs to loosen up a little but nothing is glaringly wrong. They are quite comfortable but the clamping force is considerable so I will most likely stretch them to ease that. Build quality seems passable too. For 13 quid shipped they represent an amazing bargain and they could end up as HD681 beaters given a following wind and a bit of luck. I won't comment further on the sound until this afternoon at the earliest apart from to say, they are loosening up as I listen to them... Ian EDIT: By the way they are called SkyTronic Open Air HiFi Headphones. specs are: 54mm speaker 100mW power Response 20Hz - 20kHz 60 ohm 105dB sensitivity 3m cable 3.5mm connector with adapter

OK a quick update on comfort. I've been listening to these for about 3 hours now and although my ears are warm they are not anywhere near as hot as they would be with HD681s (in stock form not modded) so the SkyTronics are winners on comfort. The pads are not pleather or velour but are a soft foam with a thin cloth covering as far as I can tell.
BTW the headband rods are covered with a loose fitting rubber tube which dampens vibrations.
I may as well mention at this point that these things are very easy to drive sounding pretty good straight out of my MP3 player with no amplification.

hmmm HD681: very detailed, tight deep bass Skytronic: lacking detail, flabby bass. I wonder .... ;D The comfort part of the Skytronic will be much better, no doubt (without AKG pads)

Hi Frans,
SLIGHTLY lacking detail.
SLIGHTLY flabby bass.
My thoughts about the HD681 were similar a few hours in.
To quote myself from page 1 of the HD681 thread:
"The bass was a little sloppy and the mids and highs a little recesssed but the overal sound was pretty coherent for a new can and amazing for something this cheap."
---
Let's put it this way these are impressing me slightly more 7 hours in than the HD681s were at 7 hours in.
For £12.99 they are an absolute steal.

Haven't heard them so really can't comment. I just deduced it from your own review. The words SLIGHTLY were not in your first comment.
There will be 'gems' in the Thomann T.Bone line also.
They do look more comfortable. And as long as you are happy with them and prefer them over Hd681 then that's good for you.
crawling back in my hole again for a few weeks

No the phrase I used was a LITTLE lacking and a BIT flabby neither of which makes it sound like I think they are bad. I also stated in the first post that "Musically everything needs to loosen up a little but nothing is glaringly wrong." They are a very impressive listen already. I don't prefer them over the HD681s. They are certainly no match for the modded 681s but they could maybe end up better than the stock 681s. Maybe a filter project for you Frans Don't go Frans your hole isn't as comfortable as the grotto and we miss you

There are so many headphones from the same factories, with different names and pricetags, which some of the time is the only big difference I know that we use the same trick in the food industry and often the difference between a product that costs 2£ and one that costs 1£, is the pictures on the product I await your "final judgement" in a week or two..

Would like to hear these but the shipping = 9 Pounds and the can itself 13 on ebay, this kills the fun of it for me. Dutch SkyTronic importer doesn't sell this particular type (lots of other types though). Skytronic seems to buy OEM products and has their name printed on them. It would be interesting to find out who actually makes them. Still going back to my hole.. a case of severe lack of spare time.

Now I'm home I've slapped them in the Solo/NAD T585 rig and they are already better out of that than the HD681s. That's not to say they are better just better out of the Solo. The 681s are still better out of my CMoy though. The SkyTronics sound good out of the Aune too. I can't believe how rapidly they are improving. Bass is now quite tight. Mids have warmed up and high end detail has improved. IMHO they are already at audiophile level. Once they lift the slight veil they have across the board they are going to be excellent! Remember they only have about 9 or 10 hours on them so far. Ian EDIT: Well I've convinced myself if no one else I've just ordered a pair for my partner. She was well impressed.

hey dudes... check this out www.avecorp.com.au/product_view.php?productID=692someone is selling either REAL cheap or someone else is selling them with a rather big profit margin. call me stupid... I just ordered one. For a meager price of E 25.- I pray it is also double the quality of an HD681. At least I don't have to buy more pads (thanks for the tip Ian)

Nope!! it = She Who Must Be Ob eyed - sorry, I couldn't resist, no offence intended - my language skills are limited to a poor command of English so I'm not well placed to offend anyone on that score. Kind Regards, honest , Dave.
