Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's a CMOY ( well, sort of!) I had one too many last night (as you can see from the soldering ) and wondered how long it would take me to put together a basic CMOY from scratch with no attention to detail whatsoever... just a sling it together as fast as you can kind of thing. 1 hour 35 minutes fully hooked up and ready to go.... even more amazing the damned thing actually works and sounds pretty incredible. I'd forgotten just how "honest" these little guys can sound..... quite an ear opener I can tell you! Very basic, very easy (and uber cheap) to put together and that, IMO, is what makes this little girl sound so good.... free from "bloat" just an honest to goodness simple design that delivers where it matters "sound quality" I have no plans to case this guy up, just made her from the hundreds of "pulls" I have kicking about.Got tons of the little pots (out of MF v2 amps) which are perfectly good.... if anyone wants one FOC then give me a shout (but only if you promise to show your CMOY off here when completed!) Follow the plan and hook up all the components as shown and you're guaranteed to have a kick arse little amp that delivers amazing sonics for its size: I haven't got a clue who "AC" is by the way..... I've had that schematic kicking about on my computer for quite some time..... hook everything up on breadboard as shown and it works straight out of the box Believe me....... if I can build one drunk and it works first time anyone can put one together sober BTW... most of the leads that are crossing over one another are actually "raised" and not in direct contact with each other.

Mike Not bad. All it needs is a 47R resistor in series with each output to suit various interconnects . Are you sure the distortion is low enough ? Only kidding. Many people will have all the parts laying around already, except the OPA2132. Many other recent devices should work well here too, if the 2132 isn't available. Mike, if you can do work like this when you are pissed, no wonder some of the little projects that you built when you aren't pissed, look so damn good. Me, I tend to blow things up, when I am tired, or even had a couple of scotches, SandyK

Re 2132 is cheap. Yes, but by no means nasty!

Say hello to............ The BLOB! I couldn't be arsed casing her up so decided to try something completely different which was to set the entire amp (circuit, volco, sockets, LED, head socket etc.) in a mass of glue. My chip of choice was the AD8620. Once I was satisfied all was well with the amp (ie: it worked) it was out with the hot glue gun and a pleasurable 2 hours spent carefully encasing the entire shebang in hot melt glue. It's amazing just how rigid the whole unit is... once this stuff sets it sets hard, the pictures don't really do it any justice... the purple LED encased under the glue gives the impression that it's a little amethyst glowing in the dark.... really nice Sound quality is much the same (ie: excellent) but I now have a fully operational amp enclosed in a hotmelt glue chassis (4 industrial sized glue sticks in total) she sits on the deck nicely (doesn't move around) and the top loading head socket is actually quite good as it ensures the only thing at the front is volume knob. Impossible to service but she should last for many years as I have fitted panasonic FM caps..... I must send this over to Nigel to see what he thinks of it.... it may give the Heed a good run for it's money Right I'm out of here, medication time, tomorrow I'll be filling an X-Can with concrete and on Friday I plan on packing 2 kilos of playdough into a Graham Slee Solo ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mike thats great! I love it! Saves pissing about with a case and looks well unusual too, especially with the led;)

Hey its unusual ;D I bet it sounds good too especially for the price, as you know theres plenty of stuff out there in fancy looking cases that sound like shit. You won't be getting any microphonics at least

Done correctly in some sort of resin (or glass) this kind of thing could be a work of art.... done with hot melt glue sticks it may not be as appealing ;D

Yes, that clear resin looks quite decent, there was a page on the internet where a guy encased his USB memstick in the stuff, I was trying to find the page so I could post the link but can't find it Hopefully the hotmelt does not go sticky, if left in your pocket it won't take long before it starts to collect bits of fluff

You're thinking "lowmelt" this stuff would require a blast furnace to melt it.... no way will this gear become tacky (and no way will the blob ever be in my pocket!) I don't do portable I prefer to speak to other humans when I'm out and about.

I think I have a link to this lunatics site www.rock-grotto.co.uk/audiogeddon/index.html

It even has a little base plate now! well Mike its small, you could drop it on the floor with no risk of it breaking, the sockets will take plenty of plugging in and out without any risk of fractured joints etc. Anyway its all good fun!
