This is an epic prog rock concept album. It uses spoken word to describe what's (kind of) going on and is to do with a controlling machine.
The album builds into a suite and then goes back to the beginning so it kind of goes in a circle.
I've now heard it and it just sent shivers up my spine. Tinyfish are good musicians and live, they are brilliant. They released 'The Big Red Spark' live last night and it is out on general release on Monday.
It looks back to 'War of the Worlds' and 'The Wall' in the way that it works and is an absolutely brilliant listen.
Once I've listened a few times, I'll have a closer look at it. It's one of those albums that you have a superficial listen at first and it builds to like a kind of 'shock' sequence and then returns to the start again. When you've heard it once, you want to go back and listen to the lyrics because it's a fairly heavy duty content album. Then you realise that it is not about one actual thing, but can be interpreted. That's how the guys designed it. (Thank goodness I'm not that stupid!!)
I really like their albums, 'Tinyfish' and 'Curious Things', but this one is an epic.
Without being too pushy. (I don't want to be like certain retailers we occasionally see here) but if you're curious about them and want a really good insight, Dave Elliott produces a podcast show and he has now featured them and this album in particular. It's the second podcast if you would like to sample this brilliant album where he talks to the members and plays the album for you. The whole show is 4 or 5 hours. It is riveting.
