Hi, before I put my WNA MKII into my depot, I changed the OPA's before AD847, and now OPA134 ..... and wow it tops my "green" Solo with OPA LME49720HA instead of the AD823. It's only an imagination? The WNA MKII sounds a bit more naturally, warmer Solo inclines sometimes to a little bit sharp tails ... The WNA MKII source impedance: 15 OHM (series resistor in the output) Solo use 33 OHM Tested with my AKG Q701 (I know some prefer 120 OHM as source impedance with this headphone) PS: For two month I had an AKG K1000 as guest - now I must then give back - the K1000 is an very gread headphone!

IMO the WNA MKll is in a different league from the Solo, especially with LM6171 / OPA627 / AD843 etc.... What are you using in the railsplitter? LM6171 is good there OPA134 is a nice sounding chip (the dual version is OPA2134) and it will sound a bit warmer and more fruity than the AD847. David's favourites were the LM6171 but I found them pretty sterile and microscopic to my ears... it was like music minus the soul.... I must get my MKlll fired up and have a play with it, I kinda put that on the backburner... can't even remember what chips are inside it. What PSU are you using with the MKll Friedrich?

Mike, in the railsplitter I use the LM6171 and I use the orginal SM-PSU, coming with the kit. I have not testet the OPA627 but I have some in my stock, so as some OPA604 too. Mike, please look which OPA use you inside the MKlll The small differences between Solo and WNA could be - Solo use a class AB und WNA use a class A powerstage - AFAIK could class AB induce a bit more odd distortion even and odd harmonics www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-harmonics.htmtube sound en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tube_sound

But now I changed from OPA627 to AD797 and compared my WNA with other HA. I was thinking that the amplifier might start swinging, but it went well. More details, different sound than with OPA627, sounds better to me now! I used the AD797 as it is - and not the modified version with the bent pin. I am still considering using additional capacitors, as suggested in the data sheet. www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/AD797.pdf

I made my WNA MKII in December 2005 and it still works well again. And with all the originally caps. Electrolytic caps I use C5, C6 Nichicon FG 100 uF, 25V C11, C12 Nichicon KZ 220 uF, 25V C7 Nichicon KZ 220 uF, 50V C4 BlackGate NX 1000 uF 25V www.blue-danube.at/hifi/wna.phpShould I replace one of these capacitors already? Especially the both Black Gates NX 1000 µF 25V? What replacement for the Black Gates NX 1000 µF 25V? Are Nichicon ES MUSE - Bi-Polarized 1000µF - For Audio Equipment a good choice? www.nichicon.co.jp/english/products/pdf/e-es.pdfwww.nichicon.co.jp/english/products/pdfs/e-es.pdfAre there similar Bi-Polarized 1000µF 25V capacitors from ELNA, Rubicon, Panasonic, etc. Or even better types from Nichicon? R11 (in series to the output) is currently 15 OHM, I consider to reduce the value to 10 or 5 OHM. What do you think about this? I have reduced my headphone collection, some I still want to sell: K701, K501, K550 to have place for newer. My current favourite listener is K712 - and not K812. K812 is somewhat analytical and forgives nothing - sometimes emphasizes sibilant.
